Threat Hero Notes
1
Ardan Ardan will barely be a threat to Catherine due to Catherine's tankiness. The only thing to fear about him is his Gauntlet. In that situation pop your Stormguard and try to tank for your allies till the walls diminish.
1
Petal Petal is no threat to Catherine whatsoever. Just stun her and let your teammate crush the Petal. The only thing to worry about Petal is her ult. Pop your Stormguard to take the brunt of the munions's explosion for your teammates.
2
Rona Rona devastates squishies with her abilities. Since you are a tank you will have no problem with this hero. Whenever she uses her ult Red Mist just stun her to cancel the devastating damage.
2
Glaive Glaive's AoE criticals are devastating to squishies but you are tank. Whenever engaging with a Glaive, pop your Stormguard and the Glaive will get a brunt of damage reflected back at his face. The only thing to fear about him is his Afterburn which stuns and knocks you to the desired direction. Try to stun him when he Afterburns to cancel his punt.
3
Krul Krul is a late game hero and needs lot of farm in order to be dominant. He heavily depends on his abilities. So stun him while your team picks him off. When he is building stacks, use your Stormguard to take less damage from his Spectral Smite. The only threat Krul causes is his Spectral Smite, so always remember to pop your Stormguard when engaging Krul.
3
Fortress Fortress is usually built as a tank so he will be very difficult to finish off. His bleed is very annoying but it will be minimal threat in the late game. His early game is very viable due to no protection from his bleed and his high mobility. Try to tank with Stormguard while your allies try to pick him off. He will be no threat in the late game due to his weak ult which only reveals your hiding location.
4
Skaarf Skaarf is late game hero and his Spitfire is very dangerous. Always try to dodge his fire while engaging. Skaarf's ult takes a long pause (breathing animations) before activating, so stun him while he is breathing in order to cancel his ult. His ult will devastate your team if you don't stun so in that situation tank with the Stormguard.
4
Catherine Catherine is a very dangerous opponent in teamfights. When you are going against another Catherine always look out for her ult which silences your abilities. Try to use your stun when she tries to stun your damage dealer. Try not to target the enemy Catherine because she is a tank. First finish off their squishies before engaging against the Catherins.
4
Skye Not much of a threat. Pop your stormguard when she uses first ability and watch the deflection of damage. Use crucible for her ult.
5
Taka Taka is an assassin who deals out heavy damage but in return he is very squishy. Use your Stormguard when engaging the Taka and stun him often. Usually your stun time will be enough for your team to assassinate the Taka. But be aware that Taka could use his second ability Kaku(turns him invisible for him to escape) during the stun. The only thing to fear about Taka is his ult which times in every 20 seconds. In that case pop your Stormguard and watch the damage reflected back to Taka's face.
5
Joule Joule's kit is very dangerous if not handled correctly. When she tries to stun your allies with the Rocket Leap, a circle will appear in the desired location of the stun. Avoid the circle and then stun the Joule back in order your teammates to pick off the Joule. Her ult will do devastating damage so before she tries to channel it use your stun to cancel the ult while popping your Stormguard to avoid taking full damage. The thing to watch out for his her second ability Thunder Strike. It will build stacks if it doesn't miss. The stacks will pierce armor, so try to dodge the strike in order to reset the stacks.
5
Vox Vox is pretty weak in the early games but you must always watch out for his Sonic Dash which he could use as an escape and a damage mechanism. Try to gank him as often because he has a small sniper range. When he uses his Sonic Dash to escape in the early game, do not pursue because you could get turret aggroed and kited. His ult is devastating in teamfights. When he uses it, it will silence your ult for few seconds which will be critical in tanking and stunning. Try to tank while the silence is active. Immediately pop the Stormguard and stun the enemy team. Always target the Vox first.
6
Adagio Adagio's heal and attack boost is very annoying to handle with. He could help his whole team sustain fights and his devastating Arcane Fire from his first ability could damage and slow the whole team. His ult could stun for an excruciating long period of time when you have Arcane fire. His ult will also deal heavy damage. His second ability could help the enemy team deal more damage which will help them kill you off faster. When engaging with Adagio always try to stun him when he is trying to channel his ult in order to cancel it. Use your Crucible to help your teammate avoid the stun. Try to tank as much as possible with your Stormguard when engaging with Adagio.
7
Koshka Koshka's early game is very powerful. Her first ability Pouncy Fun will deal a lot of damage and could help lessen the gap when pursuing your team. Her second ability, Twirly Death deals damage and will reward with stacks of buffed basic attack. These basic attacks will do increased damaged then the usual basic attack. Try to avoid Koshka in the early games and tank as much as possible. Her stun is very long so try to stun her while it is activated or else her team will heavily damage you.
7
Ringo Ringo is primarily built as a weapon hero. He is strong throughout the whole game. His powerful slow, attack speed, and his last hit will be devastating in teamfights. His ult deals pure damage(armors doesn't matter) to the target and the allies around it. Then the ult gives an additional burn for 7 long seconds. Ringo's weapon build also primarily contains a armor peircing which makes him such a dangerous hero to Catherine. His ult takes a long pause before channeling, so stun him before he channels it. Also try to stun and silence as much as possible to get more armor from your passive perk in order to get damage reduction from the Ringo. Always target the Ringo first.
8
Celeste Celeste kit deals heavy damage even in the early game. Her first ability Heliogenesis could deal damage and reveal bushes. If she adds another Heliogenesis on the previous Helio it will explode(Supernova) and will deal increased damage with increased radius. Her second ability Core Collapse will stun after a short pause. Her ult Solar Storm shoots out a wave of stars which deals devastating damage. When your team leaves Celeste unchecked in a teamfight, she will already have dealt heavy damage. Try to pop your Stormguard when engaging Celeste and stun her often. Her ult channels very quickly so just take the brunt of the damage with your Stormguard. Always target Celeste first.
9
SAW SAW's spin up could deal heavy damage if left unchecked even with your Stormguard on. Your tactic in countering SAW is to use his huge disadvantages to your advantage. When he channels his second ability Hurricane of Bullets, he will shoot out a rapid fire of bullets in which he will get 12 stacks of spin up immediately after channeling. While he is channeling his second ability he cannot move so use this to your advantage. Stun him while your team deals damage to him. He will have reduced movement speed when he has his spin up active so stun him while pursuing him. The only thing to watch out for him is his spin up. Always strike when he doesn't have his spin ups. Always target SAW first.

Introduction Top

Hi my name is SwaggyStar(In game name is SwaggyStar so add me if you want)!! This is my first build and I've been playing for a good bit of time. I am giving this build for all the inexperienced Catherine's I see in solo queue. The patch from 1.7 made Catherine's animation of her stun very reliable making her a viable choice as roam again. Although Catherine is pretty easy to use, I still see many players building her as weapon damage and crystal damage only. Her role is to protect and initiate fights but not to deal damage. This guide will help you build the Catherine the correct way.

Understanding Catherine Top

Catherine's Passive Perk and her abilities definitely shows that she is a tank. So you must build tank items to enhance her tankiness. She deals little damage but she compensates with her tanky build. Her job is to protect and to initiate fights. Because you are a tank you must act as one. Cancel ultimates with her stun and always tank with the Stormguard. Always try to facecheck bushes with her Stormguard popped. Before a teamfight occurs, try to aim your Blast Tremor at the whole enemy team and then engage with the Stormguard. Stun enemies that try to escape. When being pursued with low health, pop your Stormguard and use your Merciless Pursuit for increased movement speed. With this build I usually get the last hits because of the Aftershock which gave the build's name Assassin Tank Catherine. Catherine is a tank so act as one.

Understanding Catherine's Abilities Top

Captain of the GuardCatherine gains 1 armor & shield every time she stuns or silences an enemy hero with her abilities.
Always remember to stun and silence to receive damage reduction. Stun as much as you can but do not overextend by chasing a full health hero.
Merciless PursuitCatherine gains a buRemember to always stun arst of move speed. Her next basic attack is replaced by a powerful stun attack. Resets basic attack cooldown on activation.
Catherine is regarded as the hero with the most reliable stuns. Remember to use your stun to cancel ults and to build armor. When pursuing low health enemies, use this ability to secure the kill.
StormguardActivates a pulsating bubble that burns nearby enemies and deflects damage above 77 (+7 per level) to nearby enemies. Each deflection reduces the shield duration by 0.5 seconds.
Always pop Stormguard to tank and run away. When getting pursued pop the Stormguard to reflect damage in order to discourage the pursuers.
Blast TremorCatherine slams the ground, damaging & silencing enemies in a large cone in front of her.
Remember to silence the team before teamfights to get the upper advantage. The silence will help delay the activation of the enemies's abilities. Also build armor with the silence.

Consumables and Catherine Top

Scout TrapCatherine's role is to protect, initiate, and to also provide vision. Always try to have a slot full of scout traps. Place the scout traps in the ally tribush to foretell invasions. Also try to place them in a path no one takes. While you fight in the early game scout traps deals heavy damage. When it is in the late game try to place traps in bushes your enemy frequently goes to. If you are dominating and frequently invading the enemy jungle place the scout traps deeper. Place behind jungle camps because heroes always pass by them. If you do this you will know where your enemy is no matter where they are. Try to place scout traps in lane bushes to avoid ganks.
Crystal Infusionher abilities do the main damage so use this to your advantage in the late games. If you have surplus amount of gold use it for crystal infusions for boosted damage and to push.
Halcyon PotionPotions are so important in the early game because everyone's health is squishy in the early games. Use the potions to sustain longer into the battles and to survive while being pursued.

Start of the Game Top

Quickly pick up an Ironguard Contract and two Halycon Potion. Ironguard the jungle camps for your jungler. To Ironguard is to do the first hit on the jungle minion and then giving the last hit to your jungler. To learn more on Ironguarding go to BrokenMyth Ironguard. Do not worry if you think you are earning little money because the contract will give you and your jungler extra money if you Ironguard. As a tank you do not need more money than the jungler. Defensive items are more cheaper than damage items therefore making it more cost effective. Place scout traps and when engaging in fights remember to use the potions. Minion miner shouldn't be taken if the enemy does not too. The minion miner will give a boost of gold to the enemy laner. Pick up the Dragonheart and Sprint Boots immediately after earning enough gold.

Mid Game Top

Catherine hits her peak at the mid game. This is where you affect the teammate's overall gameplay. You should have all the items in the guide for midgame by this point. You primary goal is to now gank and start teamfights. You should be tanky enough to sustain long battles and to initiate fights. As a roamer you should be moving from jungle to lane simultaneously to ensure safety. Catherine is the queen of ganking because of her stun. When the enemy laner overextends into your half of the lane, quickly activate Merciless Pursuit and stun the hero. Work together with your allies to assassinate the enemy hero. Do not wait for a gank because that time could be used for farming. When you are not ganking, continue Ironguarding in order to get the third tier items. When a teamfight occurs, stun the primary damage dealer. Kill it first then kill the next damage dealer then finally pick off the tank. At this point you should be trying to get the gold miner. Try to get the gold miner when you kill two enemies at similar times. Use Stormguard to reflect damage and crush the living souls out of them. Remember to still scout trap because wision helps you win!

Late Game Top

You should have most of the items by this point except the Frostburn. Usually you will get the Frostburn if the game is extended over 25 minutes. At this point your primary goal is to push the enemy team to get dominance. Farming is not essential at this point if you have all the items. You should be using infusions to get better results from teamfights. Initiate fights with your abilities and try to get ace. If you get ace, do not go for the Kraken, instead destroy few turrets before engaging the Kraken for extra money. Completely push the enemy lane to starve them of gold. Remember to tank and initiate.

Detailed Item Build Top

Ironguard ContractRemember to get the first hit and to give your jungler the last hit. Defensive items are cheaper than damage dealing items. The last hit from your jungler will give you a small heal and gold.
Journey Bootsare essential throughout the whole game. Not only does it give bonus movement speed, it also gives bonus health and health regen. It helps you rush into battle or to run away from pursuers.
Aftershockis very useful when you are in a teamfight. It provides cooldown acceleration, damage, and lifesteal. Very useful when finishing off tanks which gives her the title of assassin.
Warhornis built from the Ironguard Contract path. It still passively provides Ironguard and Stormguard Banners. Warhorn is useful because it gives the whole team bonus movement speed when activated. Use this to help your teammate out of a battle or to rush into one. Warhorn also provides bonus health and regen.
Crucibleis essential to block the enemy's ult effects. When you cannot cancel the AoE ults with your stun, try to minimize the damage with the Crucible. the Crucible could stop stuns and give you time to escape. It also gives abnormal amount of health.
Fountain of Renewalshould be used for whole team to sustain in team fights.
Frostburnshould always be bulit last in any situation. It will help boost the damage of your abilities especially your ult. It also provides a slow for picking off.
Contraptionis a situational item if your team is being starved of gold. Sub the Warhorn with the Contraption. It provides scout traps or flares and has the same passive benefits as the Warhorn.

Use the situational item as a counter to the enemies main damage dealers.

Build
I solo queued right before publishing this guide in order to show the build's effectiveness in any situation. Normally being roam is the best situation you could be in with a Catherine but in this situation I had to lane for the team. We still achieved the victory with my initiations and tanking. I also got a 25% percent of the team's kill by securing or assassinating escaping heroes. I also followed everything single thing on my guide.
Note that I did not build Frostburn because we pushed early on in the game and I did not have enough time to earn the gold for the Frostburn. We won with the second Kraken. The enemy team try to kill my damage dealers but I persistently stunned and silenced them.

Thank You Top

This is my first guide and I worked really hard! I really wanted to help the Catherine mains out there. I hoped you enjoyed! Please comment and upvote for more guides!
