Before We Begin/Finish Top

HELLO! I will show you all how to play best Fortress ever. I don't main Fortress but I do main roam so that probably counts as maining Fortress. For this guide you will need to play very aggressively as a roamer, so don't be a Taka enagaging every two seconds. I main roam because everyone instalocks jungle/lane carry making me, roam.

How The Building Works (if you haven't figure out) Top

So you may see at the "JUNGLE CLEAR #2"/"RUSH" item group, that the Dragonheart/ Oakheart may go nowhere! That is because you are taking the Contraption route! Which means you will substitute that item with the other item in the same item tier. So if you are going the Contraption route, in "JUNGLE CLEAR #2", instead of double Oakhearts, you will only get one Oakheart and one Hourglass. And for the "RUSH", you would get a Chronograph instead of a Dragonheart. Same reason why I add that extra Chronograph in the "RUSH" and "RUSH #2" item groups so I can buy an Aftershock. Replace that Chronograph with a Reflex Block if you are getting Crucible or a Blazing Salvo if going for Bonesaw. Keep Chronograph if getting Clockwork.

Tips Top

1. So this is a aggressive roam Fortress guide. Not super passive Ardan guide. So once you have Stormguard Banner, you can start fighting.

2. If you don't want to fight when you have Stormguard Banner or if you think it's too late, you can wait for Aftershock (or level 6) and then guaranteed you have to fight.

3. Make sure to always be beside a teammate to gain an extra speed boost.

4. Always use good comps that would decently work on Fortress. Don't use Fortress if the enemy counters you.

Good Teammate Hero Choices Top

Krul

Krul is a good teammate because your chasing power (all abilities) is very high. Which means Krul can get tons of stacks on an enemy. Packmates, Truth of the Tooth, warhorn, Aftershock, journey boota, Clockwork, Shiversteel, Frostburn will all contribute to your chasing ability. But you DON'T want Krul to betray you and join the enemy team!

Koshka

Koshka makes a good teammate because you will basically get unlimited speed boost from Packmates. With Koshka's speed from Bloodrush from abilities hitting targets, she will not run out of speed! Her chase+your chase=so much chase that the enemy team cannot outrun us! Koshka has always been a good teammate for Fortress.

Reim

Reim is not fast even slow but will make a good teammate! First you use your Fortress chase powers (most likely warhorn and Truth of the Tooth) to initiate and run at your opponents, then Reim will basic attack, or Winter Spire on the opponents to chill them. Then of course Reim uses his Chill Winds just to root the enemy in place and Valkyrie on them.

Blackfeather

Blackfeather goes good with Fortress because of his damage output combined with your chasing powers. His Rose Offensive can almost counter any ultimate/ability. He also works just like Koshka, with good chasing, aggressive.

Glaive

Glaive is the worst on this list, but is still better than other heroes. His stun from Afterburn makes us easy to become victorious. Just make sure he is a good Glaive player because if he doesn't know how to Afterburn correctly into a wall, you're most likely doomed.

Ability Combos Top

This combo is very common throughout all Fortress plays. I use this when I am not level 6 yet or I don't have my Attack of the Pack up yet from its cooldown. What happens here is that you enabled speed boost to your allies and yourself. which initiates and you apply bleeding on them. Then you get a speed boost from Packmates and you bleeding stacks on that enemy. So gap close, and damage, bleed.

This is the same idea but use this when you are level 6 or your Attack of the Pack is off its cooldown. Use this when you don't know where your enemy team is (might be shopping, farming, gold mine, kraken, etc.). Once you use your Attack of the Pack, use warhorn to speed up and gank the enemy team as hard as you can.

This is also the same concept but when you do know where your enemies are at at a safe distance. I use this when attacking at jungle shop, attacking in lane when one of their turrets are down, or when we inavde or they invade our or their jungle.

Fortress/Item Updates Top

Update 1.16: Alpha

Fountain of Renewal now has a projectile that will travel to your allies! I hate this, because takes too much time to travel and to get used to and you have to think about when you are going to press on the fountain of reneweal button ;(.
Flare Guns also has a projectile. This isn't as bad as Fountain of Renewal though because Fountain of Renewal will keep your team alive more than a Flare Gun.
Crucible also has this. But I can't tell what is changed except a sound effect.
Stormguard Banner's damage storage is now capped at 1 second. (Even SEMC says Stormguard instead of Stormguard Banner -.-, two different things, which means SEMC is lazy.)
Fortress also had a bug that made his wolves survive more than 3 hits.

Update 1.17: Killer Bunny Rona

Fortress' base weapon damage down from 80-157 to 73-157
Truth of the Tooth now resets the basic attack (like Ringo's Achilles Shot and Twirling Silver)
Truth of the Tooth's lifesteal is now down from 3 to 2-2-2-2-3 seconds
Truth of the Tooth's damage is down from 60-120-180-240-360 to 60-120-180-240-300
Truth of the Tooth's speed boost up from 1.7-1.8-1.9-2.0-2.5 to 2-2-2-2-3
Truth of the Tooth's lunge duration up from 2 to 2-2-2-2-3 (I think this was a good nerf for Fortress because he be kill stealing too much, and should play a more roam role.)
Law of the Claw bleed proc changed from 12-13-14-15-20%+6% CR (Crystal Ratio) to 10-12-14-16-20%+5% CR
Attack of the Pack now has fortified health instead of bonus health (I think this is a better change since fortified health acts as bonus health that is harder to break through) from 250-450-650 to 300-425-550 fortified health (15-second duration). Also has the wolves down from 300-450-600 to 300-425-550 and fixed a bug where wolves waited to find a target instead of immediately running to their target when their target died.
Flare Gun placing speed has increased, same with Fountain of Renewal.
Lifespring has a new passive: After being out of combat with enemy heroes for 5 seconds, regenerate 2.5% of your missing health per second. YES THAT IS GOOD!

Update 1.18: Lance

Truth of the Tooth can now be targeted at structures (turrets and vain crystals). How I used to do more damage to turrets was by using of course Law of the Claw and Truth of the Tooth but "Strawberry! You can't target turrets with Truth of the Tooth!". Yes you can. Just stand far enough away from an enemy minion so you don't immediately pounce onto the minion. instead you give it the jaw on top of the minion but when you are entering the "pounce" range, quickly target the turret to pounce on the turret instead.
And fixed a bug with Truth of the Tooth where it would lock Fortress' basic attack. I have no idea what that means.
Law of the Claw bleed damage down from 25+15% CP to 10-15% CP. Base damage changed from 90-140-190-240-340 to 100-150-200-250-300.
Only buy Crystal Infusions now for Fortress! Because you can only carry one infusion at a time!
Scout Traps now have a visual effect when being placed!
