Threat Hero Notes
1
Catherine No problem. Later in the game annoying with the stun and silence.
2
  No Threat
3
Celeste Avoid Heliogenises and it's smooth sailing. Later on a bigger problem if you are stunned, as she can deal a lot of damage.
3
Fortress No problem in lane or later in the game.
3
Glaive Keep your distance and bully him out the lane. Later in the game Glaive should be no problem.
3
Joule Avoid enemy Joule Thunder strike, while hitting your own. especially when she has turned her back to you.
3
Kestrel Dodge the arrows and maintain distance. Not much of a problem later on, as she is very easy to kill.
3
Phinn Poke him really hard and you can dominate the lane. Later on, you can avoid, or escape his ultimate easily with your Rocket Leap.
3
Vox Avoid bouncing attacks. Don't stay near your minions. Later in the game a big problem, since he has high mobility and high damage. Coordinate for a good stun or even better, a chain-stun to deal with him.
4
Ardan Should not be a big problem in the lane. Hit him often with Thunder Strike. In the later stages, Ardan is not a big threat to you.
4
Blackfeather Avoid his ability On Point and you should be able to manage. During teamfights in the later stages, he will be stronger then you, due to his kit.
4
Reim Avoid his abilities, while poking him. Later on, try to maintain distance, as he is strong on melee range.
4
Taka Annoying to play against, but should not be a big problem. Whenever you use Thunder Strike, try not to use it when Taka uses Kaiten
5
Koshka Maintain your distance. Later on in the game you should be able to win 1 on 1
5
Rona Poke her really hard and you should be able to win the lane. Later on in the game avoid getting too close to her, as her ultimate will deal a lot of damage.
6
Krul No problem during lane. Krul will win vs you in the late game. Avoid going head to head.
6
Petal Maintain distance. Later on the seeds might be a big problem, as they will disposition you and interrupt your auto attacks.
6
Skye Keep your distance and have minions between you and her. Biggest problem with her is to hit her, since she is very mobile.
7
  No Threat
8
Skaarf Avoid Spit Fire, then it should be managable. Be very carefull in the late game. Skaarf becomes a monster if he's allowed to poke you and your team.
9
  No Threat
10
Adagio A nightmare if this is your opponent in the lane. Try to keep your distance, hit your lasthits with Thunder Strike. After laning phase, or when adagio is not laning, Adagio is not really a big issue. You can escape his ultimate fairly easily.
10
Ringo Be very carefull in the lane against Ringo. He can destroy you if you are not carefull. So play defensive at all times. Later on in the game, a good coordinated chain-stun can destroy a Ringo.
10
SAW Even worse then Ringo, stay away from his auto attacks. Ask your teammates to gank, since SAW is really a slow hero. Later on in the game, SAW is easy to chain-stun, giving you the opportunity to kill him.

Hey guys! My name is Bayu and I am a member of the SK Gaming Vainglory team, and this is a guide on how I play Weapon Power Joule on Lane.

In the first season, this tough robot riding girl secured me the skill tier of Vainglorious Gold. This is my favourite hero on my favourite position. After reading this guide, you will know more about how to play Joule on the lane more effectively and how to rekt the fold.

Abilities Top

Rocket Leap
This ability is, if used properly, your finishing touch when it comes to securing the kill or chain-stun the enemy. Using this skill for...

Chain-stun
After a Catherine used her stun on an enemy, landing your stun after the stun effect wears off will almost always guarantee you a kill. So it’s vital to coordinate this correctly with your teammates.

Knocking the enemy in a certain direction
Sometimes it could be more beneficial to knock the enemy in the direction of your teammates, so that they can target him/her faster. For example: Ozo or Koshka.

In other situations knocking the enemy away from his own teammates can be really effective too. For example: Ardan cannot reach his ally in time to Vanguard.

This principle works the same with the gold/minion miner. Pushing your enemy to the gold/minion miner could result in having the gold/minion miner attacking the same target as you do.

Thunder Strike
Your main source of damage. Hit an enemy and you get bonus piercing for your next Thunder Strike. A bonus tip: The range of Thunder Strike is a tiny bit bigger than the indicator shows.

Big Red Button
For a WP Joule, this skill is basically to snipe objectives/kills. You can clear a minion wave with it(if enemy didn’t take minion mine). In some scenario’s you can use your ultimate over Thunder Strike, but in most scenario’s you want to Thunder Strike.

Breakdown of Builds + Best / Worst Case Scenario Top

Starting items

You start off with a Book of Eulogies and 2 Halcyon Potion. Why? You need this item to have sustain in the lane. Most of your enemy laners will be ranged and are capable of dealing damage to you from a further distance then you can deal damage back.

Although this item works on killing with any form of damage, dealing the final blow with a melee attack will grant you more HP back. This means that if you have the opportunity to kill with a melee attack, you should always try to go for that.

Early Game

Depending on the result of your last hitting and/or kills, your first shop-visit is very important for your progression in the game. This will determine your play-style once you return in the lane.

If you died early, aim for Sprint Boots and Halcyon Potion. If you did ok, buy sprint boot, 2 times Weapon Blade/ Heavy Steel and Halcyon Potion.

If you did good, buy Sprint Boots, Heavy steal, Weapon Blade(or Six Sins) and Halcyon Potion. I keep saying Halcyon potion, but these little boys can change your capability to stay in the lane.

Once you return in the lane you can change your play-style. This will be further explained in the Positioning & Play style. So, back in the lane, whatever your play-style is, farming is still very important.

Mid Game

Your goal is to rush Sorrowblade as fast as possible. This is your main damage source. If you are being ganked a lot, buying an early Reflex Block can save your life, although you can escape fairly easily with Rocket Leap.

Then pick up a Blazing Salvo. This is to have more Thunder Strike. That’s it. You need critical strike once you hit level 8 and Thunder Strike is overdrived. After that, Tyrant's Monocle is the next item you will want to go for. Try building this bad boy the following way: Minion's Foot => Six Sins => Tyrant's Monocle. This is because Lucky Strike is not worth buying it. You want to jump right over it. As you can see at it’s stats, buying 2 x Minion's Foot for the price of 600 gives you more then as 1 x Lucky Strike for a total of 900. After finishing Tyrant's Monocle, make a Reflex Block if you haven’t yet.

This means you should have Sprint Boots, Sorrow Blade, Blazing Salvo, Tyrant's Monocle and Reflex Block. These items all together is your core.

Late Game

Now comes the tricky part and can really determine the outcome of your presence in team fights. Do you go for defensive items now or finish the Blazing Salvo into a Tornado Trigger?

The answer is quite simple: If you dominate the enemy, go for Tornado Trigger and then upgrade your Sprint Boots to Travel Boots . If not, go for defensive items. The choice of defence determines what your enemy is playing. Are they playing double CP, go for Aegis, double WP, go for a Metal Jacket and Aegis, if 1 CP, 1 WP, go for an Aegis. Your heroic Perk should provide enough armor to hold your ground against WP enemies.

After buying Tornado Trigger + Travel Boots buy defence, or buy Tornado Trigger + boots if you bought defence first.

Finish your build with another Tyrant's Monocle and finish boots to Journey Boots if you feel strong enough, or if you bought a Metal Jacket, finish your boots to Journey Boots. Remember, Infusions are very important to buy! Once you have this build, you need a Weapon Infusion & Crystal Infusion.

What heroes good to combine with? Top

Basically all heroes with a good stun, CC or strong initiation. Heroes such as:

Celeste, Catherine, Koshka, Ardan, Glaive, Phinn, Reim

Follow up their Crowd Control effect with your Rocket Leap, can often secure a kill.
My favourite composition with Joule, is having triple stuns. Such composition looks like:

Joule + Celeste + Catherine

or if you prefer a more tanky line up, aim for this:

Joule + Koshka + Celeste

Both work really well and allow a team to execute a single enemy really quickly.

Positioning & Play style Top

Laning phase:

Whatever you do throughout the game, farming is your #1 priority. During the early phase, depending on how well it went, you can go more aggressive towards the enemy laner, or play more defensively. If you have a bad start, I recommend to play safe and focus on last hitting. Last hitting minions with auto attack is the best way to farm, as it gives you more health back, but if that’s not possible, using thunder strike to secure last hits is acceptable.

Escaping ganks:

Always be aware of enemies that might gank you. You have a very helpful skill to escape ganks, Rocket Leap. Never use it if it’s not needed, because if it’s on cooldown and the enemy ganks, you’re toast. Learn to know when during a gank to use Rocket Leap. Playing against a Glaive, using Rocket Leap at the same time he uses Afterburn, then you won’t make the jump and get killed.

Ganking:

Rocket Leap can also be used for ganking the laner. If your allies have a stun, such as Catherine or Celeste, then you can coordinate a chain-stun to secure the kill. It is best to not initiate with Rocket Leap. If you miss and push the enemy away, Catherine might not be able to reach the target to stun and the gank might fail. If your allies don’t have a stun, either jump on the target to stun, or behind the target to knock him back, so your allies can reach the target faster.

Picture: Using Rocket Leap over the wall to secure a kill on Kestrel

Teamfights:

As a Joule, never initiate team fights with your stun. You can miss and reposition the enemy, which can be a huge disadvantage. Initiating also makes you a very easy target. Regardless of your passive, if 3 enemies are pounding on you, you’re a dead girl walking.
