Why Make Glaive an Assassin Top

Glaive can be an excellent assassin. He can get into a fight quickly with afterburn and stun an enemy, temporarily making team fights 3v2 until the stun wears off. When glaive is surrounded by enemies he can kill them all quickly with his large arsenal of AoE damage. His health also allows him to stay amidst the enemies longer than heroes defined as assassins like koshka and taka. This is why I prefer and recommend glaive's assassin type builds.

Order of Builds Top

I outlined the basic build order at the top but i will explain it here as well. Along with halcyon potions to help you stay in the jungle longer and swift shooter to help out with the attack speed a little, you should get tension bow. The early game is most important and winning during it usually keeps you winning the whole game, tension bow helps you win the early game because it gives you the most attack boost for the least amount of gold. I then recommend that you use your own judgement to decide which 2 attack items to get, a simple order for beginners is getting tornado trigger next and then sorrowblade. However getting bonesaw and then sorrow blade is okay too, or tornado trigger and then serpent mask. By the 15 minute mark you will want to start getting some boots and armor, shield, or health. By 20 minutes you will need to have one of the tier 3 defenses built. What you do with the rest of the time is up to you, i would not suggest using these builds as law but as outlines, stray a little from this path if you want and you will still succeed. Also, keep stocked up on halcyon potions, they sell for as much as they cost so why not?

The Builds Explained Top

One of the most overlooked and underpriced weapons in the game is tension bow . It adds 180 attack every 6 seconds to its permanent 45 attack. This means that by the time you get 2000 gold (which shouldn't take very long) you will deal 225 bonus damage, thats the kind of attack that can change the tide of a game early on. To continue on with the rest of the build, tornado trigger and sorrowblade were obvious additions to the build, they are items every glaive should have most of the time and they go so well with bloodsong and twisted stroke. Also, tornado trigger helps with his critical strikes which is a very vital part of him. These attack items are very easy to use and help out with almost every possible glaive build. The rest of these items require a little thinking and strategy in choosing on your part. I love serpent mask and bonesaw on glaive because his high damage output provides for tons of lifesteal and bonesaw shreds through armor so well that his attack will shred them to pieces. However, i have found that serpent mask is not quite effective enough when playing squishy opponents like koshka and ringo because they die to quickly for any life to be stolen, also they might get away because you spent all of your money on that lifesteal instead of attack power. Bonesaw is also very much less effective when playing opponents who don't build any armor because there isn't much to armor to shred. Tyrant's monacle is also good for glaive but if you have tornado trigger I do not recommend it unless you are going for a full out large damage output and no defense glaive because tornado trigger already boosts critical damage and chance. As far as defense goes anything works. I recommend aegis if the enemy team has a lot of crystal power and metal jacket if the enemy has a lot of weapon power. Also keep in mind that if the the enemy team has 1 range hero or less that atlas pauldron is extremely effective in team fights when your glaive is in the middle of the action. Boots are also obviously important in this game but I do not think it is necessary to upgrade them to journey boots and you really don't need travel boots until 15 minutes into the game when kraken and team fights start.
