What if you replaced the metal jacket and aegis with fountain and crucible.. How would that affect the build?

Rather going for more health i strongly reccommand getting armor/shield. Lot of people tend to go with some lifesteal so their lifesteal will be nothing. More shield/armor prevents getting a load of damage, so with you own 40% lifesteal you'll be sustainable and youre able to lifesteal the little damage you took back. Health is good aswell but i rather go shield/armor.

I have had a fair amount of trouble with sustain builds. I find that I am not doing enough damage early in the fight, and can't stay alive long enough for the breaking point stacks to become really effective. Should I build more damage, or more defense? Any tips or suggestions?

Early in the fight you can have issuses with doing good damage especially early game. If you have Breaking Point, armor or shield is the best solution. Crystal means shield, heavy weapon power means armor. I don't recommend getting more damage but if you want extra damage get a Tyrants Monocle. Infusions at lvl 10-12 also help to solve early fight issues.

This build helped me carry super hard in my game. I was even able to 1v1 krul (not easy but definitely doable
