Introduction Top

Hi everybody, I'm Peter, IGN lookatme, I'm captain of the Team SNOW. Here's a Vox guide. Yason "Sosiska", one of our players, gave me advice on Vox, because he has more experience on this hero.

Starting from the release in spring 2015, Vox gets nerfed almost in every update and continues being very powerful. Vox is hard to play mostly because of his early-game weakness. Everybody knows that, so they try to destroy him in the very beginning. Vox gets stronger every minute, when he's farming. The longer he farms, the more dangerous he gets, reaching the late game he can practically do 1v3 aces. That's why you should play Vox on the lane. He needs very much gold, and he can hide behind the turret in case he's attacked.

So let's start! Today I'll tell you about crystal power Vox, but weapon power is also quite playable.

Abilities Top

Vox's basic attacks also deal 34-68 (level 1-12) +35% of crystal power as bonus damage. The whole Vox gameplay is built around his Resonance. You can give Resonance to enemies by using Pulse, so let's look at this ability first.

Pulse
When Vox uses Pulse, he hangs resonance on every enemy hero and creature in a large circle around him. Resonance can be hanged on miners, but cannot work on turrets and Kraken. You can easily know if you have resonance to an enemy, because clear wave of pulse gets visibly disturbed by every obstacle. Also every resonanced enemy has a yellow aura around him. Resonance slows enemies by up to 30%, the closer target was to the center of Pulse, the stronger will be the slow. But the main feature of resonance is sending damage to 2 further targets! If you overdrive Pulse, the damage to nearby targets will be 25% more than damage to the main target! For example, if your enemies are Ringo and Koshka, both of them have got resonance, and you attack Ringo with 100 damage, Koshka will get 125 damage with each attack. Now you see that you must not stand in close groups against Vox – if he resonances all 3 of you, the whole team will die in several seconds. You should overdrive Pulse as soon as possible. The damage and slow increases, and cooldown time gets only 8 seconds. Enemies can prevent themselves from being resonanced by pressing Reflex Block, Crucible or Aegis.

Sonic Zoom
This ability works only with resonanced enemies. Of course you can use it just to chase enemies or retreat, but to deal damage it must have a resonanced enemy nearby. Vox jumps in chosen direction, twice attacking the enemy. He prefers heroes, if you have 5 enemy minions and a hero around you, you'll attack the hero twice.

Wait For It
This ability can silence the enemies. Vox is one of the two silencing heroes in the game. When silenced, enemies can move and do basic attacks, but cannot use abilities and items. Vox's silence is only 0.7 seconds long. It seems that's too little time, but this really wins the teamfights. Immediately after the silence Vox deals AOE damage and gives resonance to all enemies, which allows to destroy them quickly, if they have bad positioning. It's almost impossible to block Vox's silence (unlike Catherine's one!), because the animation is very fast. Overdriving the ultimate reduces cooldown time and increases the damage, so we do that. But if you overdrive Sonic Zoom, it will be quite OK too, it depends on your playing style and the enemies. Some players like jumping a lot, other – silencing often.

Itembuilds Top

The first Tier 1 item for a crystal power lane Vox can be a Swift Shooter, a Light Shield or Light Armor (depending on the enemy laner) or Book of Eulogies. A defense or the Book helps you to stay on the lane longer, because Vox is so weak in the early game. I prefer defense, because you've to sell the Book later, and it's a waste of gold. On the other side, it's hard to last-hit the minions with a defense item, so train to do this in solo practice. If you don't manage it, take the Swift Shooter first, you'll need it anyway for your Alternating Current, and it helps lasthitting a lot.

The first Tier 3 item for a crystal power Vox can be Aftershock or Alternating Current. AC helps to deal more damage to groups of enemies, AS is stronger in the early game, deals much damage to one target and reduces the cooldowns of abilities. I prefer Alternating Current, it grants attack speed, so it's easier to kite (run away and attack the enemies chasing you, tapping them and the ground in front of you alternately)

After the Alternating Current I buy Heavy Prism, then I analyze the game. If I see that our junglers have advantage over the enemy, and the enemies never bought shields, I buy Shatterglass, which deals frightening damage. Simultaneously I buy the Sprint Boots and Reflex Block - this item is of great importance for Vox, it can win or lose a teamfight depending on its timing.

Vox must be a squishy guy dealing tons of damage, he can't afford buying much defense, or he'll get useless. If, for example, Koshka or Joule hit him with the stun, Vox will surely be killed at once by the whole enemy team. Usually both jungler and roamer try their best to keep Vox alive, buffing him and giving him Crucible and Fountain of Renewal. But a good Vox must use Reflex Block well.

In a comfortable game, when the enemies let me farm, I buy Broken Myth after Shatterglass and Alternating Current. With these 3 items Vox deals quite enough damage, so he can buy 2 defenses.

If the game is hard, after Alternating Current and Heavy Prism I buy defense and build Broken Myth as the second damage item. Third damage item will be Eve of Harvest. With such itembuild Vox deals less damage in early and middle game, but lives longer.
