Hello!
I am Sya. Mobas were the second genre of game I ever played after FPS & now my favourite. Once I heard I could play it on my phone I went straight to the appstore. I have been playing Vainglory for a season. Since I got to a relatively high tier (Tier 7) in a relatively short amount of time. I thought I would show you how I did it, a rate & reply would be appreciated. This is my Skye Guide!

Disclaimer Top

Before we get in depth into Skye I think it's safe to say she is the most difficult hero in the game to learn and master. Even worse you need a lot of teamwork to be insanely effective & know your teammates. All her abilities are skillshots & require the right use. To be effective it takes a lot of time & effort. To make this build work best you have to hit your skillshots & without Frostburn for new Skye players this may be very difficult. You can replace the Frostburn for a Shatterglass if you don't feel confident.

Skye Lore (Part I): 'Skye's Promise' Top

OFFICIAL LORE: ‘SKYE’S PROMISE’
by SugarVenom

“You aren’t supposed to be here today.” The general’s long shadow stretched into the hangar from the rolled-up garage door.

Skye peeked out from the cockpit of a mech with half its front armor blown out, metal blackened and curling in from the impact point. With a screwdriver between her teeth, she tossed a charred actuator onto the ground and called out, “I’m glad you’re here, Appa. I want to show you my plans for the decommissioned exosuits.”

“You promised your mother.”

“The engines are okay. The shields cause all the issues.” She hunched down behind what was left of the front armor, only slices of her showing in the blasted-out hole. “Every new generation of these machines, we add more armor, which means more weight, which means bigger engines and more crystal power …”

“…which means more dependence on the crystal mines, which means more war.” The general’s face was hard-lined, but his eyes and voice softened. “This is not the time for this discussion.”

“The mechs take fire because they’re too slow.” Loosened screws tink-tink-tinked to the ground, then Skye kicked at the wrecked armor from the inside. “We’re going about it the wrong way. We need … more… mobility.” A word for every kick with her combat boots, until the front armor crashed to the ground, exposing her in the cockpit. “We should be going lighter on the mechs and heavier on the firepower. I put the 25-millimeter autocannons on this one. With the vectored thrust jet nozzles on an integrated airfoil on the back, it’s light enough for halcyon-tipped rockets. I know it’s a risk, but …”

“Skye. She is coming.”

“Where? Here?”

“Ah. Here she is. Go to work, people.” A dozen clattering footsteps accompanied a shrill voice from the garage door. Two men dragged a full-length mirror to a workbench. A dressmaker and his assistants, pins poking from their pressed lips, set up a mannequin. The manicurist, hairstylist and makeup bot took over the workbench. The voice followed behind, barking out orders; it belonged to a small woman with tall, upknotted hair and black eyes. “Mind the grease. That silk cost more than your monthly wages.”

“Umma, what are you doing here?” Skye whined, slumping in the cockpit.

“Your name will be chosen from the tiles tonight. Get out of that thing.” Skye’s mother stood next to her husband at a stern parade rest.

“I don’t want to be chosen. There’s a war happening.” But Skye obeyed, climbing down to join the crowd, casting a betrayed glance at her father.

He shrugged. “There is always war. You cannot be a soldier forever.”

“I’m a pilot, Appa. And I’m the best pilot you’ve… ow!” She winced as the makeup bot attacked her eyebrows with tweezers. The manicurist sat on a stool beside her and clucked under her breath at the broken nails and calluses. The hairstylist pulled Skye’s hair out of its knot and yanked through the tangles with a comb.

“No black around her eyes,” Skye’s mother said to the makeup bot. “It makes them small. And overdraw her lips; they are too thin.”

The makeup bot bowed and rummaged through its box of powders and creams while Skye scowled. “What happens if you’re lucky tonight, and some high-placed family chooses me for their son? What will he say when he sees me without all this stuff on my face?”

“A fish is not kept the same way it is caught.”

“Great,” grumbled Skye. “So men are fish.”

“Gold rings and orchids for her hair,” mused Skye’s mother, peering down at a velvet-lined box of decorations. “You know, Skye, Baron’s mother will choose a tile tonight.”

Skye went still. “She … she would never choose me. There are many highborn girls in the tiles this year.” The hairstylist stood on a stool behind her and pulled Skye’s hair into braids, weaving in the rings.

“The politics of the choosing are complex. A choice for the general’s daughter would send a message,” replied her mother.

“It would be an overt act of war not to join Baron with one of the marriageable girls of Silk or Tiger House.” The general’s brow wrinkled with worry.

“If it is war they want, my new mech design will win it.” Skye’s flight jacket was removed, and the dress draped around her. The dressmakers knelt, pins sticking out from their mouths, to correct the hem.

“Stand up straight,” barked her mother. “Your overcoat will be hemmed too short.”

Skye Lore (Part II): 'The Choosing' Top

‘THE CHOOSING’
by SugarVenom

Skye strafed her way through the dense crowd of nervous girls surrounding the choosing table where the silver tiles laid, each engraved with a name. The marriageable young men crowded in corners playing Yunnori and howling at the results, seeming to care little for the outcome of the Choosing, but the young ladies ran their fingers over their own names and gossipped about which girl the house mothers would choose for their sons in the ceremony. Skye closed one eye and targeted the smug first daughter of Tiger House, a pretty girl named Nari. Around one delicate wrist, Nari held the velvet leash of a drugged and declawed tiger that blinked with confusion at the guests.

“I hope you are chosen by a good house, Skye,” she said. “It would disrupt the tedium of these things if a house mother cooked up a surprise.” It was well known that a daughter of Tiger House was a wise diplomatic choice for Baron Silver. Tiger House had been at all-out war with Silver House that year; destroying much of the Silvers’ cavalry of mechs …

… but with Skye’s renovations …

A finger jabbing into her spine straightened Skye’s posture. Her mother had shadowed her all night, correcting with bruising pokes and hissed instructions. Skye plastered a disingenuous monster of a smile on her face and neglected to answer, choosing instead to hold Nari’s lazy gaze until the high-born girl looked away.

“I need air,” Skye said to no one in particular. She hid two honey pastries in the sleeve of her overcoat on her way outside to the dark balcony. In the far distance, down the great hill upon which the Silver House stood, past the outlying village, past the farmland and minion camps, the crystal mines glowed a calm, eerie blue in the night sky. She stuffed a pastry whole in her mouth.

“You smell of grease.”

Baron stepped close behind her, his words tickling the skin on her neck. He plucked the other pastry from her hand and popped it into his mouth. He wore the silver-embroidered robes of his house and his knuckles were crowded with silver rings. He wore his wealth as was fitting; after all, it was his great-grandfather’s mining that had unearthed the powerful crystal. Other houses had vied for it, battled for it and died for it, but Silver House had held it.

“You’re mistaken,” Skye said, crossing her arms in an act of defiance meant to calm her shaking. “It is the latest perfume. All the ladies are wearing it this season.”

“I do like your hair.”

“I plan on doing it up like this every morning from now on.”

Baron rested his forearms on the balcony wall. “It seems not so long ago that you and I were children together, playing while our fathers pored over maps, or planned jungle battles …”

“And soon your father’s battles will be yours.”

“It is absurd that so many have died for those glowing blue stones.”

Skye peered out at the mines in the distance. “What happens when the mine is depleted?”

“We will own nothing but a pile of empty crystals, their power drained long ago in our war machines. We will dig farther into the farmland, feeding fewer people every year.”

Skye could not look at his eyes. She stared instead at his hands, at the scars from fighting that crosshaired his knuckles. “My father is collecting information about powerful energy wells where crystals may be recharged,” she offered, but Baron shook his head.

“The wells are too far to be of use to us. There are times I wish that the mines would disappear. Then, we would have no need of mechs and tanks, nor the filthy minions, nor this ridiculous choosing ceremony.”

“The choice would be ours,” whispered Skye. She covered Baron’s hand with one of hers and jolted with the electricity of it.

“Yes.” Baron turned his hand under hers and opened it. In his palm, a shining silver tile nestled. Skye inhaled the honey from his breath as she drew her fingertips over the tile, over the deep groove of her own name on it. “One day, the army will be mine, and I will need you to be my general.” He curled his fingers around the tile, gripping it, as Skye shivered. “Sometimes, despite everything, a man must choose for himself.”

To be continued …

Skye Lore (Part III): 'For Baron' Top

“The Silver family is honored to choose…”

Skye stepped forward, trying to catch Baron’s eye, as his mother reached toward the tile table.

“… Nari Tiger.”

There was only one astonished gasp in the crowd when Nari’s tile was plucked up. Baron’s eyes did not waver from his newly chosen bride-to-be. Skye’s own tile was still encased inside Baron’s fist, to be chosen that night by no one. Realization gathered like rocks in her throat.

I will need you to be my general.

He hadn’t said wife.

Skye dissolved backward into the crowd, then sprinted out the door and down the hill alone, into the deep night, yanking the rings from her hair. She ran to run, something primal within her chest demanding escape.

At the giant rolling door of the hangar she stopped, her hair wild around her face. Another girl might have gone home to weep into her mother’s arms, but Skye had always felt more at home in the garage with her father, fixing things or, when she was little, breaking them.

It felt good … No. Nothing felt good, but it felt right to get out of the hanbok, to tie her hair up the way she liked it, to rub off the makeup. The familiar grease and gunpowder smell of her jacket soothed her. She climbed up into the mech she’d reappropriated to figure out how she’d ever show her face among the other pilots. How she’d apologize to umma for running out like a minion on fire.

But she could only think about what Baron had said.

There are times I wish that the mines would disappear.

In the quiet, dark hangar, encased in the machine, Skye heard his voice as if he were still close by.

…we would have no need of mechs and tanks, nor the filthy minions, nor this ridiculous choosing ceremony…

“The choice would be ours,” whispered Skye.

Baron no longer had a choice, but there was a way she could choose for him.

She powered up the mech, pulled on her gloves, and gripped the handles. Before anyone could stop her, before she thought long enough to stop herself, she walked the mech outside.

Despite the humiliation of the night, despite the gravity of what she was going to do, driving the lighter mech was a thrill. So agile, so fast. She avoided the main gate — unauthorized use of a mech was still a crime, general’s daughter or no — and tip-toed the mech through the minion camp. The beasts slept in haphazard piles, their snores warbling; they were known for brute toughness and obeying orders, not thinking fast, so they gave her no trouble. She shot over the security gate, zig-zagged through a mandarin orchard, hovered over rice paddies and cabbage fields. Here and there laid the rusted and broken remains of rice transplanters and plows, the first machines that had evolved into blasthole drills and frontloaders when Baron’s ancestors had struck silver. When they’d hit crystal, and the other houses discovered the power of the halcyon within the crystals, the mining machines had been repurposed for war. Farmland gave way to trampled dead battleground, brown with bloody mud.

The mech glided over coiled barbed wire and then landed, strong as an eagle perching, on the reinforced wall. Ball-shaped security bots buzzed around her, scanning the mech code, then her retinas.

“Pilot seven-zero-five, you are not authorized for the use of decommissioned mech one-eight-six-four. Please return to headquarters immed-”

With a squeeze of the trigger, Skye strafed to the left and fired. One by one, the bots burst apart and fell, crackling, to the mud.

Staring down into the glowing blue, she flicked a switch to arm the missiles.

“Okay.” She patted an autocannon. “Let’s end this war.” The jet nozzles activated. The mech rose, then hovered over the mine.

The first missile shot deep inside.

The explosion rocked the ground and blasted out millions of tiny crystal shards. Skye ducked behind her arms as the shards pinned themselves into her jacket, poked her legs.

There was no time to lose. She had to complete her mission before anyone could stop her. She strafed and fired, let loose salvo after salvo of missiles, rained death from above into the mines, destroying the crystals that had powered a civilization for generations. The halcyon power that so many had fought and died to possess bloomed into the night sky, then dispersed into the night air.

Hero Information Top

Skye
Diffculty : High Position : Jungle Role : Sniper

Skye is a swift sniper able to dance at the edge of fights or dive deep into the enemy backline to kill key targets. Skye's unique strafing attacks change the complexion of fights, and her ability to chase down and catch opponents is unparalleled.

Target Lock
Slot: Heroic Perk

Skye's basic attacks apply Target Lock to the last target.
  • Basic attacks and Forward Barrage on that locked target grant her up to +2 move speed for 1.2s, but this boost is much weaker while moving backward.
  • Target Lock lasts 3s and is lost when the target is more than 8.5 meters away.

DO: Apply it before attacking.
DON'T: Risk taking poke for it.
Forward Barrage
Slot: A

Skye fires a continuous stream of bullets while strafing in the selected direction for 3s. Building weapon power makes the barrage slow approaching enemies by up to 60%.
  • Reactivate this ability to stop firing.
  • Deals bonus damage to locked target.
  • Deals 50% less damage to structures & bosses.

Forward Barrage (A)
DO: Predict the direction of your opponent & react quickly to change of direction.
DO: Keep them just within range of the barrage and target lock at all times.
DO: Don't worry if you miss just cancel & use Suri (If safe) to refresh.
DO: Poke before a fight breaks out to gain the upper hand.
DON'T: Be afraid of using it when an enemy is under a turret & taking a hit, you will develop a sense for how much you can tower "dive" with this ability.
DON'T: Use it when there are minions nearby which an enemy could take cover behind.
Suri Strike
Slot: B

Skye dashes to a chosen location around her locked target while firing a volley of missiles along a line between her and her target.
  • Multiple missiles can hit the same target, but subsequent hits deal 20% damage.
  • This ability can only be activated when Skye has a locked target.
  • Activating this ability resets a portion of the cooldown on Forward Barrage.

Passive: Each ability point in Suri Strike increases the duration of Target Lock.
  • Deals reduced damage to minions.

Suri Strike (B)
DO: Use the edges of the circle so you can Suri Strike whilst being at a distance.
DO: Use diagonal angles to make it harder to land skillshots on you.
DO: Use the Suri Strike to reposition your self onto the squishy target (RISKY).
DO: Suri Strike over walls to get away & away from melee heroes if they are close.
DO: Use the Suri Strike to reset the cooldown for you're Forward Barrage. Always use Forward Barrage then Suri Strike.
DON'T: Be left vunerable & overcommit to the Suri Strike.
DON'T: Panic after you hit a bad Suri Strike, try to stun & Forward Barrage out.
Death From Above
Slot: C

Skye fires a salvo of missiles at a chosen location around her locked target. After a 1.3s delay, the missiles rain down on that location, stunning enemies for 0.5s. Enemies still in the area afterward are slowed and take crystal damage.
  • Aiming directly on your locked target rains down the missiles in a cluster.
  • Aiming away from your locked target rains them down in a line across the target's path.
  • This ability can only be activated when Skye has a locked target.
  • Deals reduced damage to objectives.

Passive: Each ability point in Death from Above increases the range of Target Lock.

Death From Above (C)
DO: Stun at least 2 enemies.
DO: Use it to stun someone under a turret for a Forward Barrage.
DO: Use it to get away and provide you slow cover combined with Forward Barrage.
DO: Chain CC, the dirty secret that makes a single stun and a good teamwork and composition win the team fight. When someone else stuns use this to stun them again, they can't block it.
DON'T: Be tempted to go for the clump if you aren't going to hit it.
DON'T: Waste it, the cooldown isn't that short.

Why CP | Why Jungle? Top

Why CP?
In my opinion although CP Skye is constantly being nerfed & WP Skye is being buffed, CP Skye is better. I say this because ok fine with WP Skye there is a lot of sustain & your barrage is "crazy". but you don't have enough health to do sustain damage. You'll be dead by the time you can get off your 3rd basic attack. Also a common misconception is that WP Skye can "target people on the backline". No chance, too squishy, very stupid thought, Case closed, CP is better.
Why Jungle?
In lane most matchups beat Skye. However in the Jungle it really isn't like this. Most of the people you are a hard counter for are in there. The only people to watch out for are Taka , Koshka and Blackfeather. These heroes can really make your life hell. If you can hit your stun though they're dead. Any other melee heroes you can just Suri Strike away from. The main reason though why jungle is better is that you can Forward Barrage without worrying about bloody minions blocking it every time. It just gets boring in lane, picking the right moments between waves. If you are against a good laner it's GG, Game Over. Another Key reason is that in the jungle you don't have to worry about last hitting which is incredibly difficult with CP Skye.

General Playstyle Top

1st Jungle Clear
Due to the update concerning gold and the irongaurd contract in 1.19. Skye takes all the hits from the camps. You either start at the double backs. Or if you are against a Reim, Krul / Easy melee matchup you take their fronts first then work back into your jungle. Go for an early gank.

Adapt to the game
No build is good for every single game. For example if the enemy triple stack CP, get 2 aegis and a kinetic shield. If the enemy go heavy on defence get some pierce & get your ROAM to pick up an aftershock. Adapting to the meta of your game is very important & if you don't you inevitably be screwed. You will learn how to do this more & more. As you progress up the ranks you will improve at it.

Jungling
You always want to use your Forward Barrage -> Suri Strike to farm. When you take out your 1st Regen minion barrage it down. With the back camps, Barrage then Suri Strike. Repeat for the other 2.

Positioning
If you get caught out of position as Skye you are dead. Literally. As Skye you want to stay at the back and target the nearest enemy, switch to the damage dealers if they come close. With Skye the damage potential is massive & if you can stay alive through a fight the GG is real.

Snowball Build
After you get the Travel, Shatterglass, Void and Piercing. Build into Halcyon Chargers -> Shatterglass -> Broken Myth. With adequate defence in-between.

A Great Stun
When you are coming up from the shop you can go to the tri-bush and use the heal camp to stun straight down to the top entrance. This is a very good stun as the slow means they will have to go sideways out the stun giving them no kite potential. Even when blocked it will still be effective.

Game Phases Top

Early

Skye is quite powerful Early & Mid, if you can get an early Shatterglass. Early invade against known late game heroes & try to make their life hell once you have your first tier 3 & sprint boots.Try to look for early ganks to get a good snowball. If you get your 2 tier 3s ahead of the enemy jungler you are set up very well for the win.An Early game tends to snowball a lot into your favour later on in the game. Give yourself a pat on the back if you have done well in the Early game and keep it up.

Mid

Skye is however at her peak when she has 2 tier 3 items, some light defence & Travel Boots. This should be around kraken spawn so don't get down if you haven't rekt early on. At this point you should be guaranteed a kill per teamfight & you should be able to win them for your team. With Skye you are expected to win the first Kraken teamfight and pick up 2 turrets from it. Invade the enemy jungle in the Mid game to steal their back camps whilst you get your laner to cut of the other laner's rotation. This is very effective & if played to a decent level should work everytime. You can even do this earlier and later in the game if perfected.

Late

Skye is also very decent once fully built. She can still get 1-2 kills if played right. In the late game you want to be careful, don't go ANYWHERE without support. Skye is very squishy so throughout the game you have to be very careful in terms of getting caught out of position. Only go somewhere if you have vision that is far enough away for you to react. In my opinion Skye does extremely well Late game. She is classed a late game hero for some and an early for others. It all comes down to play style and build.

Ability Order Explained Top

In the early game the Forward Barrage is more effective due to the higher crystal ratio. As you finish the Shatterglass & finish the Piercing Shard the Suri Strike becomes more important to max especially with the cooldown reduction on Forward Barrage & the extra range. The max on the ultimate is worth. It reduces the cooldown by 6s & increases the target lock range. The extra duration, slow & damage/sec also pairs well with Broken Myth. If you were to upgrade Forward Barrage, Forward Barrage recieves some extra damage, the cooldown won't make a difference if you use the Suri Strike correctly.

Items Explained Top

This is very useful for sustain in fights. This means you can spam your abilities more than ever.
I pick Shatterglass over Frostburn as the extra 50 crystal power makes a big difference once paired with Broken Myth. The 210% Ratio on Forward Barrage means that it actually is a big deal whether you choose Frostburn or Shatterglass.
This is just to make skillshots easier if you need it. If you are confident you can hit them don't replace Shatterglass with Frostburn.
This is equally for the shield pierce as it is for the amplified damage. Broken Myth synergizes very well with all your abilities. It makes a big difference later on in the game.
This is mainly something for the void battery to build into. The 10% CP Lifesteal helps quite a lot though & is very useful however I would recommend building defence after you have the void battery
If your opponent stacks Aegis buy another Piercing Shard at Stage Four along with some light shield/armour.
Stack Aegis if against heavy crystal power, build an Aegis for every enemy hero using CP, (MAX 2).
Stack Metal Jacket if against heavy weapon power, build a Metal Jacket for every enemy hero using WP, (MAX 2).
This is vital if you are up against a Krul otherwise you will get rekt. If an opponent builds more than one attack speed item this is advised. If they are ranged there is a very neat trick that is difficult to pull off. If you pop your Atlas as you hit Suri Strike over someone, it will pop on them and you will get away.
This is for more health if you are getting bursted down every time, way too easily.
Pair it with another defence.

Combos Top

Teamfight Combo:
Forward Barrage -> Death from above -> Suri Strike -> Forward Barrage
The 1st forward barrage is to poke them down at the beginning of the fight. The Stun and Suri Strike means that you can be safer using your Suri Strike & your Suri Strike is more likely to hit. Suri strike leaves Skye very vulnerable due to her low hp however the stun negates some risk. The Suri Strike resets your Forward Barrage so you can use that again most likely to finish off unless it is a slow Teamfight, in which case you repeat the last 3 Abilities once your ultimate is back up.

Chasing A Single Target:
Forward Barrage -> Cancel -> Suri Strike -> Forward Barrage
If the enemy is low on health & in range of a basic you don't need the first Forward Barrage.

Getting away from 1 or 2 people:
Reflex block stun (If there is one) + Death from above -> Forward Barrage (Whilst moving away) -> Suri Strike (If they get close) -> Forward Barrage (Whilst moving away or towards if you think you can finish them off)
The Reflex block is very important, if stunned you have to Suri strike out and run whilst using your barrage. If you are against a Krul don't forget to pop your Atlas with the Suri strike. The Death from above is designed to slow the opponent to discourage them from chasing.

Duke'em Combo
Forward Barrage -> Big Suri Strike (Opposite Side) -> Forward Barrage -> Big Suri Strike (Back)
This combo is most effective in a 2v2. This will only work effectively once you have maxed your Suri Strike. The Broken Myth will amplify the crystal damage. The output, if you can avoid damage, is deadly. This is difficult against heroes that have great gap closing ability such as Taka , Blackfeather & Koshka.

Turret Takedown
Death From Above + Forward Barrage -> Suri Strike -> Forward Barrage
This should easily burst down a Half HP turret if there is nobody around, be careful the leaves you vunerable using your abilities so quickly.

READ ME
You will get used to using these combos & you won't see them in full effect at the very start. Once you use them again & again you will see the true power.

ROAM Synergies Top

Impale Barrage|Gythian Strike
Skye pairs extremely well with ROAM Bayu. They have an incredible amount of synergy together in terms of their abilities and methods of outputting damage. Skye needs to stay close to her enemies, but not too close. If enemies are trying to flee, Bayu can Impale keep them within range of Skye's Forward Barrage as well as keeping them within range for her Target Lock. If Skye needs to kite the enemies, she can activate her Suri Strike in combination with Bayu's Gythian Wall to knock them away so that Skye can continue dealing damage from a safe distance!

"FlashX"

Afterburn|Suri Strike
Skye pairs extremely well with ROAM Glaive. They have an incredible amount of synergy together in terms of their abilities and methods of outputting damage. Skye needs to stay close to her enemies, but not too close. If enemies are trying to flee, Glaive can Afterburn keep them within range of Skye's Forward Barrage as well as keeping them within range for her Target Lock so that she can close the gap using Suri Strike. If enemies are trying to focus Skye, Glaive can Afterburn to knockback enemies away from Skye!

"FlashX"

Suri Death Gauntlet|Vanguard=Love
Skye is nearly uncounterable in the jungle when paired with Ardan. With the burst damage from Taka or Koshka being Skye's only real threats, Ardan's Vanguard will again be there to save the day. Gauntlet in combination with all of Skye's abilities. Both Death From Above and Suri Strike will surely be direct hits since enemies have very limited room to manoeuvre. Ardan can also act as a meat shield for Skye in sticky situations.

"FlashX"

Chain CC|Peel like a Banana
Phinn does very well with skye if you can coordinate well. The phinn hook into phinn stun into your stun is very effective to burst down targets. A suri and barrage after will almost 100% take out the jungler in a 2v2. Phinn also provides great peel against targeted skillshot champs. Situational but effective.
