Adagio A big threat to Carry Lyra especially, but you don't need to worry so much though because CC is the bane of his existence. Ask your teammates to counterpick into him with Koshka or Krul, it will be the bane of his existance.
4
Alpha Tanky+Huge Burst damage, a horrible combination. However, a very effective counter to her is your Bright Bulwark. Time it right, and she is potato for 4 seconds.
5
Samuel Samuel has a lower movement speed and range than Lyra(unless with A ability) Very dangerous early game but late game is meh. Lyra can 1v1 Samuel but be alert.
6
Skaarf Good Skaarf Players are a nightmare to deal with. Against a Skaarf, build a Crucible to increase chances of survival. Don't allow him to get Massive Broken Myth stacks or you are already dead. focus on him first.
6
Lyra Lyra players that you think are pro, play it safe. But when the time is right, attack her. However, in a 1v1, a weapon Lyra might win, so if you are using crystal, try to only kill her with teammates.
7
Catherine Getting stunned by a good Catherine player can be the reason why you win or lose the game. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND TRY NOT TO ENGAGE UNLESS NECESSARY. However early game, Lyra can kill catherine easily so kill her early game so she won't do much late game.
8
Taka Can easily kill Lyra. Use your Bulwark and portal your way out. DO NOT ENGAGE UNLESS IN TEAMFIGHT (especially if you are alone). Extremely dangerous. However, when you use Lyra's B, it Blocks all attacking abilities of Taka, so reserve it when the time is right.
8
Skye Usually, skye is not a big threat to lyra, especially in the early game. However, Skye is a late-game monster so watch out! One, properly aimed forward barrage WILL MELT YOU!
8
Grumpjaw If you get eaten the Grumpjaw has teammates, you are dead. Try to attack from a range.
9
Kestrel Mist Traps are your worst nightmare. Get way as fast as you can. Dodge her Glimmershots or bodyblock for your carry if you need to.
9
Celeste Extremely High Burst damage via poke, and she out damages you. Rely on your teammates to kill her.
9
Koshka This CRAZY CAT IS A NIGHTMARE. RUN AWAY. Get a reflex block immediately.
9
Baptiste Extremely high burst damage + CC. Not a good combination against a squishy like you. engage only with teammates.
10
Petal Petal can ABSOLUTELY WRECK LYRA. DO NOT EVEN TRY TO ATTACK HER. MUNIONS WILL KILL YOU IN SECONDS
10
Rona I don't need to explain why rona can wreck Lyra. Moving on. Get a reflex bock.

Author's Note Top

I am going to revamp this whole guide for 5v5 Ranked. I am very sorry for not updating this guide for so long. I'll also improve on the quality of it in general, so I hope you enjoy my new revamped guid!.

Introduction Top

Hello to the people reading this guide. My name is Blissey123 and I am going to tell you my personal build of Lyra in all her possible roles, but I usually use her as a Carry. I can tell you that I am fairly unexperienced and have been playing Vainglory for only 15 months but I have found immense success using Lyra, especially as a Carry. Now let's move on to the Analysis.

Warning to people who plan to main Lyra! Top

Lyra is know as Miss Nerfed 2016/17 for a reason, she was too OP and they have only buffed Lyra twice. Lyra is one of the most nerfed heroes in Vainglory! That means you should be prepared for future nerfs, just little warning.

Analysis Top

Lyra is a fairly versitile hero. She can play all the main roles in Vainglory. Let's see what she has.

An ok hp(774)
The highest basic attack range(as of update 2.6 with max rank of arcane passage, 7.1 m)
Tied for the third highest movement speed(3.3)
Squishy(though SEMC buffed her health)
Not a bad basic attack(can to 200+ damage to a turret after 2 hits. When built as a hyper carry it can reach 350+ damage to the Vain Crystal in two shots)
A 35% slow on her basic attack(that will be increased with 0.02 percent of max health)
A 30% slow on her second ability that shuts down many heroes that counter her(like Koshka and Taka)

Not bad at all!(actually, the slow on her basic attack is devastating when chasing)

WARNING about Lyra
Lyra is a hero that excels early game, her basic attack does so much poke damage even as a Roam build. Her time to shine is early to mid Game. Lyra will fall off late game and suddenly, she will become even squishier, because if I am not mistaken, Lyra's Health at level 12 is one of the weakest in the entire game. She needs a lot of support from her team mates at that time. She WILL be an easy target. Take that in mind if you do choose Lyra as your main.

Lyra is one of the heroes in worlds, both 2016 and 2017 that was consistantly banned and overpreforming. She is an amazing hero if you master her(still in progress XD).
Let's look at the builds.

Lyra's State in the Current Meta(Update 3.1) Top

Currently, Lyra is one of the best roam heroes available for helping squishy mid laners survive their weak laning phase. Offering one of the best pokes in the early game for a roam via basic attack and slow, Lyra is a constantly an annoyance to the enemy mid laner and makes them lose farm, putting them behind. Meanwhile, the mid laner that Lyra is babysitting is getting head in both gold and experience. Lyra's natural high base damage in the early game makes her a good hero for ganks and securing early kills. In the late game, she is one of the best roams that could effeciently protect the carry through her constant heals and and snared. Overall Lyra is as a Roam is pretty amazing in 5v5, so you'd be inclined to make her a priority roam pick.

Note: Lyra was repeatedly nerfed in 2.12 and 3.0, but in 3.1, she was buffed quite a lot, making her much more viable and an amzing roam.

As a carry, she is definitely viable, but not amazing. This is mainly due to her facing competition from Varya as an AC reliant mage. Varya, although having lower CP ratios in her basic attack has a reliable poke from her A, faster attack speed, a dash, and a team wide ultimate. The Mid Lane would rather have someone like Celeste, Kestrel or Varya than a single target damage mage. This moves her to the top lane or the bottom lane, in where she faces competition from more viable bot and top laners. She is a situational carry, but definitely viable in 5v5.

Lyra vs Adagio Top

I decided to make a comparison between Lyra and Adagio to help you decide which hero you should buy and why(in my opinion) why Lyra is better than Adagio.

Adagio

Pros
-Doesn't need extra energy because of perk
-burst heal
-A heal that slows down nearby enemies
-Flex Pick
-strong basic attack

Cons
-Low Mobility
-A heal that is not as strong
-Doesn't have as much utility
-No slow in basic attack unless with Frostburn
-Basic attack is not as strong as Lyra's

Lyra

Pros
-Very Strong heal, can reach 1000+
-Has an Ability that shuts down more than half of the abilities in the whole game.(movement based)
-Much better mobility than Adagio
-Has a stronger Basic attack that slows down the enemy as well
-Has more escape options
-The second attack will hit no matter how far once channeled(very useful for finishing off enemies)
-Better Chase
-Her heal does DOT damage and burst damage to enemies
-Flex Pick

Cons
-Needs a slot for energy(if you are a rookie and don't know how to conserve energy)
-No more burst heal if you let it heal you until its health is diminished. Only has burst if you burst your sigil early(still very useful for escaping enemies in the brink of death)
-Her heal doesn't slow down enemies
-Basic attacks and abilities costs a lot of energy
-Her Ultimate does no damage and doesn't stun like Adagio

Hope this Comparison helps you to decide if you want to learn Lyra or Adagio as the 2 are very similar. :)

Crystal BUild Top

CP Lyra is my personal favourite. My best with this build in a causla pvp is 15 kills, 2 deaths, and 9 assists! And in ranked, 19/4/8. It is OP if you know how to use this build correctly. Now to analysis.

CP Lyra must start with defense and a swift shooter. If you choose crystal bit, you might fall victem to early game ganks. In Mid-Late Game, Getting Shatterglass/Dragon's Eye and Alternating Current as Fast as Possible is a Must because you will do sooooo much damage with just those 2 Items.

The rest is common sense. Broken Myth does crazy amount of damage once it has stacked as much as possible. Halcyon Chargers are for energy and Aegis to make sure you won't be too squishy. Alternating Current is DEADLY so you must try it. Anyways, In early game, Buy AC, as it is crucial to speed up your farm as Lyra needs items. To sum it up which tier 3 items should be bought first to last :

Alternating Current
Dragon's Eye/Shatterglass
Halcyon Chargers
Aegis
Broken Myth/Eve of Harvest
Metal Jacket

Double AC's only use is faster attack speed but doesn't provide much besides that, having low CP, which is not very good for CP Lyra who relies on her basic attack CP ratio's to do damage (60% and 70% respectively)

BestChuckNa's Carry Crystal Lyra Top

I was watching the North American Finals between Team Solomid and Gankstars Sirius, and noticed that BestChuchNa's Carry Lyra is the Best I have ever seen(Not to mention that he is the best laner in NA). I decided to record his build and give all the credit to him. It works so well, except I change eve for Shatterglass. It works particularly well in Ranked matches. My only advice is to conserve energy while farming, and don't use your second basic attack to often, as it is usually the one that drains energy.

WP Lyra Top

Nowadays WP Lyra isn't used at all, so I wouldn't recommend using it unless you are in casual and you want to experiment. It is more of meme nowadays.

Roam Build Top

Now to the Roam Build. My build for Roam Lyra might be a bit different then most builds as they don't invest in crystal power at all. The addition of Shatterglass and Alternating Current is there for Lyra to further support teammates in teamfight. What good will she do if she can't do any damage? As Roam builds journey boots, not halcyon chargers, you can finish off enemies or come to their aid quicker. However, if you feel that she has too little energy, invest in Halcyon Chargers. Another alternative is War treads, if you feel that you can be slightly slower but can provide full team sprint, you can go with that as well. The rest are the usual. Invest in Contraption and Crucible first as they are most important. Then go with fountain, than boots, then Alternating Current and Shatterglass. I found out that this build works for me, so hopefully in works for you.

You can replace Shatterglass with stormcrown if you have trouble taking objectives and if you want more cooldown.

Bonesaw is also optional to shred the enemy teams armour so your teammates can finish them off easier.

Semi-Carry Build Top

For the threats, pls refer to Crystal Carry Lyra threats. They are the same.

This build combines the Roam build and the CP Carry Build. This allows you to Function as a protector but you can still effectively kill enemies. I would consider Clockwork as an optional item as it is too expensive but it allows spam your abilities more often, particularly her sigil. You can replace it with slumbering husk if you feel like you are dying too often from ambushes of the enemy team, particularly to Taka and Koshka. Maybe another Crucible to makes her heals crazy powerful.

The Combo of Alternating Current and Dragon's Eye is still an unbeatable combo for lyra(for weapon power, the closest competitor would be Sorrowblade and Tornado Trigger although WP is meme nowadays. You can replace Contraption with Halcyon chargers but personally, I wouldn't be cause Contraption is a very important Item. Aegis or Metal Jacket is a must because you can't 1v1 a hero once your carry is dead, but if they are in low health, go for it(usually because of the damage that your carry did on them). Now this is the Summary of the Order you should Buy the Items:

Crucible
Contraption
Shatterglass
Alternating Current
Aegis/Metal Jacket/Atlas Pauldron
Clockwork/Halcyon Chargers.

Tips and My Experience in Playing Lyra Top

When I first started playing Lyra, I actually used Weapon power completely and don't even use any utility and defense items, which is so dumb. But you must understand that Lyra is the second hero I bought after the free 3 heroes(Taka, Ringo, and Skaarf) and Flicker, who I don't use alot. I was also was a newbie back then. But even back then, it was so funny because the first time I played Lyra in a PVP casual match, I got 7 kills, 5 deaths, and 13 assists!(I guess beginner's luck) but i knew by that time that Lyra is a hero that suits my play style. I go aggresive(which you may have noticed that all the builds here have at least 2 items that do damage). However, you don't have to be so aggressive if you don't want to. You can just support from a distance. Now for some tips:

-If you are a beginner, play Lyra as a Roam. Follow your jungler around and assist him/her when ever you can, and also so that you will gain more gold to build your items quicker.(I learned my lesson the hard way. When I was beginner, I went too agressive and led to a good amount of kills, but with big amount of deaths, so play her safe if you are beginner)

-In teamfights, assist from a range. Remember that Lyra is still a squishy character. Getting too close is not a good idea.

-Plant your bulwark to trap enemies in a teamfight. This will give your team an advantage, allowing your jungler and carry hero to kill your enemies. It shuts down all movement based abilities of other heroes. Use that to your advantage!

-Place your sigil under your teammates in a teamfight to make sure they won't die quickly. Use it when you are trying to escape from your enemies!

-If you play Lyra as a Roam, you MUST invest on a SuperScout 2000, Crucible,Fountain, and War Threads no matter if the enemy team does NOT have a stealth character. Vision is more powerful in 5v5 than 3v3.

-Place flares and scout cams as often as you can and when you are suspicious that the enemy is hiding in the brush. It will help you to escape enemies who wish to ambush your team.

-When playing Lyra as a Carry, start in Lane. The only problem is that you gain less experience compared to playing Lyra in Jungle, but you get more gold in the Lane. However, accompany your jungler when they are taking the goldoak and CP buff for gold and experience.

-DO NOT GO TOO AGGRESSIVE EARLY GAME. YOU WILL REGRET IT(basically don't over extend in the lane unless with your team)

-When farming, if there is an enemy hero there. plant your sigil under their feet, to scare them away for a few seconds. It does quite a lot of burst damage and DOT. By the time they come back, you have another sigil to burst.

-Get Blazing Salvo when your early game ends. It will speed up your farming by alot, but beware. DO NOT BUY BLAZING SALVO WITH NO ENERGY BATTERY/VOID BATTERY. YOU WILL RUN OUT OF ENERGY AND BE FORCED TO RETREAT.

-DON'T FORGET TO BUY FLARES. You WILL get ambushed quite often, especially by a Koshka or a Taka(learned that from experience)

What about in a Blitz Match? Top

In Blitz, I have used Lyra successfully often. In Blitz, my best was actually 5 kills, 0 deaths, and 1 assist! As you can see, I find immense success with this build. Here are some tips:

-Your first 2 items must be Shatterglass and Alternating Current. They do CRAZY AMOUNT OF DAMAGE.

-You do not need to buy a defence item at the start. It can come later.

-Boots are NOT ESSENTIAL in a Blitz match. They already speed up your character alot. That's why you should get boots as the last item most of the time, unless you are hunted down quite often, which is when you need the extra speed.

-You MUST get a another Shatterglass and a Broken Myth next. YOU WILL DO EVEN MORE CRAZY DAMAGE.

-If you feel that you are too squishy, but Aegis/Metal Jacket/Atlas Pauldron before the second Shatterglass and after building a Broken Myth. Remember, it is situational. Sometimes, I win without the need of defensive items!

-I changed my mind. Roam Lyra works, as long as you get defense first, than go for the Shatterglass and Alternating Current next with a Contraption. A HUGE shout out to Faey who tested the Roam Build in a Blitz match! :) :) :)

-Weapon Lyra does well in Blitz matches as well. Pls feel free to use Weapon Lyra in Blitz Matches(In that case get a Sorrowblade, Tornado Trigger, and sprint boots as your starting items)

What about Jungle Lyra? Top

I guess it actually works. I play her jungle when there is no Jungler in the team, which is rare, but jungle Lyra is not impossible. For these reasons:

She actually has a decent clear speed and can get ahead in levels quite quickly.

However, DO NOT PLAY JUNGLE LYRA IF THE ENEMY TEAM HAS A KOSHKA OR A PETAL(basically any jungler that is OP early game) because Lyra does not fare well in early jungle matchups without AC and SG. Also, Jungle Lyra must have Slumbering Husk as she does not do well in early matchups. You will die less often. Anyways, items listed in order.

swift shooter
Energy battery
Halcyon Potion
Heavy Prism
Crystal bit
blazing salvo
Sprint Boots
Void Battery
sprint boots
Kinetic Shield
Shatterglass
Alternating Current
Broken Myth
halcyon chargers
Aegis

Remember, it is situational. You might get certain items earlier and change the items up. It's up to you.
However, when Crystal, it is a good idea to get a stormcrown because her clear speed is still slow. :) There is an optional weapon build if you want to clear jungle camps faster.

Massive heal Lyra Top

I thought of this troll build that might work, which grants Lyra like 41+ heal in one tick. You see, the heal per second increases by 12% of the bonus health of Lyra. 5 Crucible's grant Lyra 3000 health, and 12% of that is 360. 360+325)which is how much her ordinary heal per second would do when overdrived) is 685! 685 heal per second! Another perk of this that you receive additional slow from Lyra's perk, and it makes the slow 65% instead of the usual 35%. Lyra would basically be immortal! Can someone test it out and I 'll edit it if it works. :)

Gameplay(Carry) Top

After you get your starting items, you should go straight to the lane and start farming. You have to master last hitting(which I still haven't XD) on the minions so you get as much gold and experience as possible. When you encounter the enemy laner, only basic attack him/her if he is beyond the midpoint of the lane (the symbol) because if you basic attack beyond that, there is a higher chance that:

a) You get ambushed
b) You get targeted by the turret and lose health unnecesarrily
c) You get killed

However, take note that Lyra is very strong early game so being aggesive is not a bad idea. If the enemy laner starts basic attacking you instead of your minions, basic attck back and put your sigil under your feet. Among these will happen:

a) If the person is smart, they will retreat or call for teammates
b) You will do a decent amount of damage and they will start to retreat
c) You almost kill him/ her so finish them with your sigil

If you manage to win the 1v1(if it even happens), you will get ahead in levels and get more gold. To check that you are not behind, you should get your first tier 3 item in the first 5 minutes(I get Alternating current first, but certain circumstances made me and will make you get these items later).

If you have farmed decently, like 30 minions in the first 3-4 minutes, you recall and buy your next set of items.

Make sure you know how to last hit! there is no point in playing carry Lyra if you don't know haw to last hit. I can give you a grade on what is good CS and what isn't.

In 10 minutes
A*=90-100+ CS
A=80-89 CS
B=71-79 CS
C=60-70 CS
D=40-59 CS
F= anything below
I usually get around A-B range because Lyra is one of the heroes that is harder to last hit with(I main both Kestrel and Idris and I usually get A to A* CS with them)

If you don't know how to last hit, search on youtube. There will be a couple of good videos on it.

Focus on farming as much as possible. However if there is a teamfight in the jungle, you must go and help them as you are the carry, and your main job is to secure kills.

Pressuring the turret early on is not a good idea if the enemy team has 2 junglers, you will be dead before you know it. When pressuring the turret, you must have your teammates with you. If you do it alone, you'll be ambushed and be an easy target.

At mid-game, you should be at lvel 7 to 10, and than it's time play more aggersively. Lyra is the strongest early to mid game but falls late game, so you must try to kill as many people as you can.

Once you reach lv 10, you can start focusing less on farming and accompany your teammates because you become super squishy late game and to survive, try to be with your team as often as you can. Watch out for late game monsters like Celeste who will easily kill you so support from your max range or you will die.

When your team is killing the Kraken, be there for them, but invest in plenty of scout traps in the bushes surrounding because the enemy team will try to steal the Kraken. Watch out for Solar Storm, which easily steals the Kraken so its a good idea to ask your jungler or Roam to look out for it. An especially good counter is Catherine, who can bodyblock solar storm with stormgaurd and reflect crazy amount of damage back to Celeste.

If the enemy team got the Kraken, Kill the Kraken form the front, or you will be an easy target to the enemy team. Lyra, especially WP Lyra can Solo the Kraken without losing 2 turrets. Lyra kill the Kraken fairly quick . But watch out because when you are killing the kraken, it is an especially good time for the enemy team to kill you.

Synergy with other heroes(Roam Lyra) Top

You know, once, I actually played in a team consisting of Lyra(me), Kestrel, and Celeste, and we were a nightmare. It gave me the idea to put which heroes synergise with Lyra.

Kestrel

SCORE: 9
Surprise surprise! Kestrel actually works well with Lyra. Lyra can support kestrel while she's attacking with Glimmershot. Lyra can also help kestrel get away(burst movement speed) and help Kestrel farm early game. You must try pairing Lyra with kestrel and you will find out yourself! :)

Celeste

Score: 9
Celeste is generally squishy. With a Lyra by her side, she becomes a nightmare. Sigil heals Celeste, helps her finish of enemies, and more importantly, helps her get away. She can last so much longer in teamfights. If an enemy is chasing Celeste, Lyra can also place bright bulwark and her portal. Easy Peasy.

Petal

Score:10
If you see a Petal and Lyra,(who are both great players) it will make you SUPER DUPER FRUSTRATED. They synergise too well, they become unstoppable.

Alpha

Score: 9
If the enemy team has Alpha paired with Lyra, you have to watch out. Lyra can place her sigil on Alpha before she dies! Totally unfair. As usual, Lyra can help her get away. You have to see it for yourself.

Skye

Score: 9
With a Lyra in a Skye's team, it makes chasing enemies a breeze. With a natural slow on her perk, it is chaotic!

Joule

Score:9
Joule usually has a hard time aiming her Ultimate. With Lyra's perk and Bright Bulwark's slow, Joule can One shot an enemy hero easily.

Adagio

Score:8
Carry Adagio becomes practically invulnerable with 2 heals. His sustain is Crazy with Lyra(in theory) and he becomes and absolute nightmare.
Samuel
Score:10
I forgot to mention this. Samuel and Lyra makes one of the most terrifying cores in a team, due to the fact that they have so much sustain when paired up. This has been showcased many times in Championships and has proven time and time again that it is a terrifying comp for lyra.

Awesome Teams for Lyra Top

Here are some awesome team combos for Lyra
Lyra (Roam) Kestrel(Carry), Celeste(Jungle)

Now you may be thinking, KESTREL AND CELESTE AND LYRA ARE THE #SQUISHIEST CHARACTERS IN THE GAME! However, as a team, they are a NIGHTMARE to deal with. There pokes a re ridiculous and a team with 2 global ultimates with an Echo can send make you cry(serious), and all of them do crazy damage. I have tried this out. I works too well. You should try this.

Catherine(Roam) Lyra(Carry) Kestrel(Jungle)

You may think, UH-OH. This team synergises so well. Example:
1. Catherine stuns enemy team Celeste.
2. Lyra place her Bulwark to trap her.
3. Out of nowhere Kestrel appears and traps Celeste in a mist trap. Dead.

Lyra(Roam) Celeste(Jungle) Petal(Lane WP)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
They are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too strong(sorry if hard to read). WP Petal can wreck enemies easily, especially with Lyra and Celeste is a LATE GAME MONSTER. Too good. MUST TRY.

Update 2.3 nerf Top

Lyra has once again received a nerf from SEAMC(;-;) The nerf on attack speed items has affected Lyra's Carry path and weapon path quite a bit. She isn't able to farm as fast as before and to dish out damage. Also, the nerf to her energy means that you MUST get energy or else you will run out of energy quickly and Lyra will run out of energy to heal her team mates. The nerf to imperial sigil's cooldown also means it is a good idea to get an early choronograph and stormcrown for the roam build.

I hope in 2.4, she will get a buff, because the only buff Lyra received is defenses and she was nerfed again and again. Maybe make Bright Bulwark's duration 2 seconds and a slight buff in health?

Dreams Crashed(Update 2.4 nerf) Top

Lyra has got another nerf, again. (sobsobsob)
But the funny thing is:

She has one of the highest winrates in America, 52%
She is still effective

So if you still want to buy Lyra, don't question her viability, because she is still as good as ever(winkwink).

The Nerf/Buff of Update 2.6 Top

In update 2.6, they took away some of Lyra's early game power by cutting her range(sobbbbbb) to 5.1. However she performs so much better late game with a 7.1 range when she maxes her rank of arcane passage. YAY!

She is still very influencial this update this update, and she is very good in this patch along with grace.

Conclusion Top

Lyra, a hero that is the top dog is very effective in the current meta. I hope you enjoy playing Lyra and reading my guide. Hopefully it may be helpful to you. :) My IGN is Blissey123 and you can play with me if you are in the region of SEA.
