Introduction Top
This build utilizes the cooldown changes in 1.7 to maximize Vox's mobility. With low cooldowns and an early focus on defense items, this build can lead to some quick wins if played correctly. Players should practice and master stutter stepping prior to trying this build; the lack of attack speed items necessitates at least a moderate feel for Vox's natural attacking.
Early Game Top
With this build, Vox makes an acceptable jungler (particularly if the enemy team isn't aggressive early), but I still recommend sticking to lane.
Start with a
Crystal Bit or
Sprint Boots and take your first point in
Pulse.
Sonic Zoom is pointless at level 1 now that it only hits enemies with Resonance.
The key to a successful early game is to maximize last hits without using abilities. It's beneficial to allow the lane to progress closer to your turret, even if that means letting the turret help you last hit. You can last hit small minions right after one turret hit and large minions after 2-3 (depending on game progression and minion mines). The closer you are to your turret, the less likely you'll take too much damage and the more likely your teammates can assist in killing an over-reaching enemy laner.
You want to be able to purchase at least the following on your first market stop:
Sprint Boots,
Eclipse Prism,
Chronograph,
Oakheart
The defensive item is conditional. If you're up against two weapon power opponents, choose
Light Armor; two crystal power opponents, choose
Light Shield. When you have a mixture of opponents (which is typical) I like
Oakheart because it's effective against both types of damage and builds into
Crucible.
Rushing to Your Core Items Top
Once you've got the four items above, it's important to focus on building to your core items in the right order. Work to complete the core build in the following order:
Aftershock - If you get this quickly it'll drastically improve your damage. Be sure to time the damage with your abilities (it's on about a 2 second cooldown).
Travel Boots - Boosts your health and movements speed and lowers your sprint cooldown.
Reflex Block (or appropriate Tier 2 defense item) - Helps you avoid stuns and maintain distance.
Energy Battery - You may be energy starved in moderately long fights. This'll help.
Heavy Prism +
Void Battery - This will increase your damage by quite a bit and you should be able to get them together.
Eve of Harvest - You'll need the healing from all the
Sonic Zooming you'll be doing.
Journey Boots - Additional speed and defense along with a shorter cooldown on sprint.
Mid Game Top
Once you've completed the core build, your priority becomes maintaining both
Crystal Infusion and
Weapon Infusion throughout the rest of the game. Together, these add 60 shield, 60 armor, 35% cooldown reduction, 25% attack speed, and bonus crystal and weapon damage (based on level).
They are more valuable than items if they're all you can afford. Try to maintain additional gold income so you can continue to build to the final build in the following order:
Crucible (or whatever Tier 3 defensive item you're building towards).
Chronograph - This will bring your overall cooldown reduction to a level that'll allow you to
Pulse and
Sonic Zoom about every 2 seconds. As long as you have your infusions up, you'll be incredibly hard to kill. Even if your team dies early in a team fight, there are no heroes that should be able to stay on top of you to complete the Ace. I've been able to finish off all three enemy heroes alone by kiting with repetitive
Pulse and
Sonic Zoom. The cooldown on
Wait for It should be around 9-11 seconds as well, and enemies don't ever expect a second one so quickly.
Late Game Top
Most games should be over by this point but if you're in a long game, continue to work towards the final build
while maintaining both infusions.
Don't worry about finishing
Clockwork until you have
Broken Myth. The additional cooldown reduction is minimal at this point, so it's your last priority. If you're able to build
Broken Myth you'll always reach the 30% increased damage because you should always be fighting much longer than 3 seconds.
Conclusion Top
If you try this build and get owned, don't give up! It takes some practice stutter stepping without any attack speed items, but once you get the rythm of auto attacks and
Aftershock procs down you'll love this build.
Let me know what you think!
