2
Ardan While tanky, Ardan can't deal a lot of damage to Baron or really take advantage of Baron's below-average mobility. I strongly recommend maxing [[Jump Jets]] so you can sail through his Gauntlet Wall as if it isn't there.
2
Lyra Lyra is too squishy to be significant and you won't need your Jump Jets if you're just going to nuke her.
2
Reim With even less mobility than Baron, Reim won't take long to kill. Try to dodge any and all of his skillshots.
2
Skaarf Same as SAW, Bully him out of the lane and shell him if he even tries to poke you. You have to show you're the boss or all the animals won't listen to you...
3
Petal Poh. Tay. Toh. NUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKENUKE She's good tho...
3
Samuel As a low mobility laner bully him around. A few shells in the lane will teach him not to push and let you farm efficiently.
4
Adagio Adagio can be a threat to Baron as his stun, slow, and constant healing and buffing of allies can burn you down. If your team can deal enough damage to counter both healing and buffing on the enemy's team and crucible Adagio's ultimate, you should be fine.
4
Catherine Like most roam oriented characters Catherine is of little concern. The only true threat is that if she puts her shield up when your ult hits the rebound will likely kill you. Additionally, Catherine's ult can put you off of your potent abilities for quite a while.
4
Skye She may be dreamy-faced at Baron but that doesn't mean you can't throw nukes and missile pods at her.
5
Baron Try to predict where the enemy Baron's ultimate while land and counter his playstyle, build, and mistakes as soon as you can. Make unpredictable movements because in most mirror matchups one or both characters will expect the other to play the same way. Good luck and have fun playing against an enemy like you.
5
Fortress I don't really know a lot except that you can burn his wolves down very fast and kite him if you keep enough distance.
5
Lance Haven't analyzed yet. I think the root will be bad for escape as you will lose the option of jumping. otherwise shouldn't be too bad.
5
Vox A decent few shells will poke him way but late game he gets just totally annoying. He can out-mobility and out-damage you, so be wary.
6
Celeste Celeste is a lot like you. Poke her as much as she pokes you, but there's not much else to say.
6
Joule Joule is easy to take down as she is relatively predictable, but half a Big Red Button is more than enough to instantly delete you.
6
Phinn Disallowing mobility could be difficult for repositioning, but if Phinn cannot support his team well enough he is not a true threat.
7
Alpha With above-average mobility and a devastating ultimate that completely counters Baron's low mobility ( [[Jump Jets]] put aside), Alpha can be devastating. Alpha is hard to hit but having a sticky melee carry such as Krul can take her down. Try to burst her down if her reboot is up and then quickly payload on the reboot bar to erase her.
7
Ringo As another sniper, try to leap into the farthest reaches of the enemy backline and eliminate him with nukes and shells.
8
Blackfeather Having easy mobility for dodging your abilities and a commendable amount of burst damage, Blackfeather is scary. Try to hide and secretly snipe away at him late game. However, harass the fleepleburgers out of him early on as he is ridiculously underpowered.
8
Koshka For the same reasons as Blackfeather, Koshka can easily take you out. A fast few dashes and clawings will let you realize you must stay behind the team and snipe from far away.
9
Glaive Like always, Glaive is ridiculous. He can displace you and burst you down before you can say NUKE and, well... You're dead. If he has little cooldown acceleration and you see him use Afterburn just before you start to run, you can probably afford to try and kite him.
9
Rona Another Koshka/Blackfeather counter to Baron with insane mobility and savage damage. Could probably 2-hit you with the right build. Avoid and nuke 'em.
9
Taka Yet again, Rona, Blackfeather, and Koshka add another recruit to the "deleting Baron and using his remains for our benefits" list.
10
Kestrel Of course the most OP character is on the top of this list. Let me simply say: You will die. Try to avoid the ult/skillshots.
10
Krul OP! OPOPOPOPOP! My only real tip is to try to avoid swords, guitars, or surfboards flying out of bushes and actually realize that that means there's a zombie trying to throw weird stuff at you.
10
Ozo Coming from a previous Ozo main, let me tell you Ozo is seriously OP. You'll die if you can't aim your nuke correctly. (Sorry if I'm biased I'll admit I am a little)

Introduction Top

Hi everybody out there, I'm P0m3granat3! Some of you may know me from my other guide:

http://www.vaingloryfire.com/vainglory/guide/tank-gank-kite-fight-p0m3granat3s-tank-petal-guide-14954

I have just started playing Baron (obviously) and so far am loving him more than any character I've played. He's a very fitting character to my playstyle of forcing opponents into traps and jumping stupidly far distances. I'm probably going to main him... Anyways, that's enough talk, here comes the good stuff!

Baron Top

Baron is a damage-dealing sniper whose shells and cannonblasts eliminate backline enemies. When given an early gold lead Baron can be devastating. However a high learning curve makes Baron hard to master.

Baron's Perk, Rocket Launcher:

Hero: Baron | Slot: Heroic Perk
Baron’s basic attacks deal 130% weapon damage to the target and surrounding enemies. These explosions deal reduced damage to lane minions.

Okay, basically it's just better WP damage.

Baron's A, Porcupine Mortar:

Hero: Baron | Slot: A
Baron launches artillery toward the target location, damaging enemies on impact. Enemies caught by the explosion are also slowed for a short period of time. Weapon power strengthens the slow while crystal power increases the range of the ability.

This is your zoning tool and damage supplement.

Baron's B, Jump Jets:

Hero: Baron | Slot: B
After a short delay, Baron launches to the target location, then gains bonus move speed for a short period of time. After landing, his next basic attack fires quickly and reloads instantly. Crystal power can extend the range of the jump while weapon power can shorten the delay of the jump.

This allows him to have some if any mobility. I recommend not jumping far in the midst of battle as this causes you to have opened yourself up to attacks while charging your jets.

Baron's ult, Ion Cannon:

Hero: Baron | Slot: C
Baron targets a location for an orbital strike. After a brief delay, the location is obliterated, dealing massive damage to all enemies in the area. This deals full damage to enemies near the center and deals less near the edges. This ability also passively increases Baron’s basic attack range every level.

Baron's ult is insane. However, it takes a very long time to come out and the hitbox compared to other highly damaging ults such as Skaarf's is relatively small. I recommend using this in the following ways:
1. From the very farthest you can be
Nuke opponents from the very edge of the range, which is about half the map. This weakens and gives you vision over your opponents. additionally, it's hard to see it coming. Perfect opportunities include when a hero is clearing lane minions as they usually stay within a decently small area while farming thus making easy targets. After they've been hit, they will be much lower on health, so you can get within range and jump right next to them, preferably through a wall because it's more epic and they won't see it coming, then just shell them until they die.
2. To steal stuff
Let's say that your team is taking Gold Mine as the enemies push down the lane and begin beating your turret. They have a ridiculous amount of minions and you can't engage because they will overpower you. You nuke the minions and hopefully them and boom, suddenly they find themselves without minions and attacking a bare turret.
3. By predicting the opponent
If you can't see the opponent, remember that you can still see a lot of special effects. For example, let's say you see a [[Spectral Smite] coming down on where Kraken is. You know that you can safely nuke there and deal some damage.

The Build Top

Here are the items you should buy and why you should buy them. I only list Tier III items on this list.

First Buy: Eve of Harvest The lifesteal against heros makes you very survivable and the energy is much needed for constant shellage. I recommend rushing this item from level 1, then rushing your next item.

Second Buy: Aftershock This item will let you shell more frequently as well as let you call down those sweet orbital strikes frequently. The CP is good and the passive is good for survival because you can activate it with a simple ability drop.

Third Buy: Fountain of Renewal Start this item while near finishing your Aftershock so you can have it slightly afterwards. This lets you be EVEN MORE SURVIVABLE and can save you and your team when in a pinch.

Fourth Buy: Shatterglass DAMAGE!!!

Fifth Buy: Stormcrown Yes, yes, it's a weird choice OKAY ITS WEIRD I GET IT JUST DEAL WITH IT. I recommend Stormcrown late game because it gives you: a), energy regen, which is important, b), cooldown speed, which is important, c), max health, which is important, and finally, d), a great passive that just buffs up your overall damage and lets you quickly get that bit of late game farm. Not to mention that it lets you take turrets easily and efficiently. Trust me, it works.

Sixth Buy: Halcyon Chargers These will let you not only sustain your energy (Baron uses SO MUCH) but gives you a little more cooldown acceleration.

Synergies Top

Ardan
It's pretty obvious as to why Baron is good with Ardan, as the walls of Ardan allow Baron to shell safely.

Lyra
Much like Ardan.

Lance
Keeping the enemy in place and controlling their movement makes playing Baron much easier.

Skye
Same as Lance

Glaive
They make up for each other's weaknesses.

My personal favorite team comp!

Lane Baron
Lane Glaive
Jungle Krul

Basically, Baron sits in the top lane bush and constantly shells the enemy laner (s) while Glaive gets all fed and OP and hard carries to a victory. Meanwhile Krul does the same as Glaive but in the jungle.

How To Use This Build Effectively
1. Get to the lane as fast as you can. When you're there, begin farming as you always would, but save your shells
( Porcupine Mortars) for harassing the enemy laner when they appear. When they do, immediately begin to bully them, lobbing a shell every 3-7 seconds. Lob so that the shell is slightly in front of the enemy, which forces them to have to move towards their own turret to be safe. While constantly depriving them of time and farm, this allows you to weaken them for an easy gank. If the enemy comes for an early gank, follow this procedure:
I: Begin charging Jump Jets towards your turret.
II: Drop a single shell on the enemy cluster.
III: Drop a fly-by as you jump.
IV: Hopefully you won't die.
VI: If you get stunned you're screwed.

2. Mid game, stay on the edges of the teamfights, shelling from a distance, and only enter a 1v1 if the enemy is either a slow melee character that can't get to you easily or if you're sure you can beat them.

3. Late game is your prime time. Blast away from the sides of the battlefield and nuke the strongest or most dangerous targets.

Use shells to force opponents where you want them-remember Baron is all about making them play by your rules.
Make sure you are in a position that makes you hard to reach, to ensure safety.

When playing Baron as a slightly mobile sniper who secretly devastates important targets from a range, I recommend using this build as it allows you to have very long range and a savage amount of damage. If playing Baron as more of a long-ranged warrior, build WP and don't use this guide. When laning like I recommend to, think of it as a sort of chess game. Your minions are your pawns, attacking the enemy pawn when possible and heros when commanded to by the most powerful unit, the queen, which is you. With Baron having an enormously ranged and highly damaging poke, I recommend not using Porcupine Mortar on minions and instead using them to zone and hold back the enemy laner. Try to land shells with the enemy hero on the edge of the shell range facing away from you, forcing them to come towards you and be hit by the blast, or dodge the blast and lose a precious few seconds of farm and pushing. With this bullying tactic supplemented by a surprise gank and nuke here and there, the enemy laner will be forced to submit.

Conclusion Top

Thanks to you all who read the whole guide. For those of you who want to see this build in action use it yourself or friend me (FoxtailTaka is my name ingame) and write on the party chat "Use that Baron build". I can usually play on Wednesday nights and weekends (mountain time) and main as Baron, Ozo, Blackfeather, and Krul.
