Threat Hero Notes
1
Ringo Ringo is super fragile, and Ardan can definitely fight 1 vs 1 against him. In the early game, you do more damage with your abilities. Then in late, you just need to attack him with your Stormcrown and apply atlas on him.
1
Catherine Ardan has a better early and late game than Catherine. Indeed, you can easily invade enemy jungle, and when it comes to late game, top players know how to block her silence and stunts.
2
Celeste Celeste is like Ringo, super fragile. You can definitely try to fight her. You just need to be careful about her stun.
2
Petal Petal is one of the most fragile actually. Even though she can jump out of your range with her B ability, you can reach her again with your Blood for Blood, or Vanguard your ally.
3
Taka Against assassins, Ardan is good because of his high base health points. He also has good damage with his abilities.
3
Koshka Against assassins, Ardan is good because of his high base health points. He also has good damage with his abilities.
4
Skaarf Skaarf doesn't like to face tanky melee heroes that can stick to him. What's more, Ardan's Julia's Gift (heroic perk) helps you recover from Skaarf's Fan the Flames.
5
  No Threat
6
Blackfeather Blackfeather is a tanky hero that can stick to you and create health barrier with his B ability. You have to be careful to not be outpositioned, in order to not let him make stacks on his Breaking Point.
7
Adagio Adagio is super strong, in every position. He can slow you and have a high base damage.
8
Lance Lance is one of the tankiest heroes out there. You do not want to face him or beeing rooted with his A. He can also bother you with his B while you're casting your ultimate or trying to reach the enemy with your B.
8
Skye Skye is one of the best kiting heroes. What's more, once she focuses you with a frostburn, there is a high chance that you can't escape. And whenever you want to reach her, she will just suri strike away.
9
Reim Reim and Krul are the best counters to melee heroes. They can slow you, and have high defenses in general. The only thing you can do against them is Vanguard away.
9
Krul Reim and Krul are the best counters to melee heroes. They can slow you, and have high defenses in general. The only thing you can do against them is Vanguard away.
9
Kestrel Kestrel has been one of the most played hero in the latest patches because of her power. She is incredibly strong against melee heroes because she can escape/stun with her B.

Introduction Top

Hey guys! My name is Cr3am, I play Vainglory professionally for SK Gaming as a roamer. I've been playing Vainglory since the release on the app store, firstly as a main laner. Then I played all positions but mostly roamer in tournaments. This allowed me to play the roaming position even better since I knew what to do with and against every hero.

Early Game Top

In this guide I will share my thoughts about Ardan hopefully it can help you to adapt your own game play.

The first item you'll be buying at the shop is situational:

Ironguard contract
Everytime your jungle ally takes a last hit, you get hp back. You will always be full life in the jungle and in a good condition to take a fight.

Oakheart
This item gives you extra hp and is necessary for your first activable defensive item. Buying it as a first item will help you get your first activable item before the enemy roamer.

Swift shooter
This will be mostly taken when you play with an Adagio cp jungle to get that little extra damage in early game to help you clean your jungle faster and invade the enemy one. Indeed it synergies well with Adagio's B.

In addition to that, you can buy a Halcyon Potion and a Flare to provide vision at the shop after your first rotation.

Ardan is really strong in the early game. He can easily fight against squishy heroes even without damage items. You should definitely take advantage of his early power to gank or invade enemy jungle.

First rotation is something that needs to be done wisely. You can decide to skip the first heal camp and the two small minions at shop, if you have a strong early comp. This should make you arrive at shop before your enemies, and give you advantage in the first fight.

In the other hand, if you face a stronger lineup, you'd rather take both heal camps, the two big creeps, and directly teleport back to base to shop. Indeed, you don't want to fight in early, but only try to secure your camps.

Mid Game Top

When you reach mid game, Ardan becomes stronger. He now has his ultimate, and his Vanguard grant a considerable barrier bonus during fights ( Vanguard's barrier bonus is up to % of health items you buy). If you manage to catch someone with your ultimate, you definitely get a big advantage in securing gold mine and possibly destroying a turret. However, do not forget that the ultimate is not only offensive. You can use it as a defense if you wan to protect your allies (for example, when fortress cast his ult, you can cage your allies in, to give you time to kill the wolves before re engaging a fight).

Vision is actually what your role is all about. I consider it as the key for winning. The more information you get from your enemy's position, the better your decisions will be in terms of rotations.
You always need a mine in your tri-bush to prevent jungle invasion or ganks. Then it comes to your advantage in the game. If you are invading a lot, you can put some mines in enemy jungle, and less in yours. In the other hand, if you get pressured by the junglers, you'd rather put mines only in your jungle and use them defensively to eventually take a fight.

Then it comes to Item build. This is really situational and can be different in any game.

This will be mostly taken when you play with an Adagio cp jungle to get that little extra damage in early game to help you clean your jungle faster and invade the enemy one. Indeed it synergies well with Adagio's B.

Fountain of Renewal
You will need to prioritize this item in any game. It recovers your allies hp after a fight. The less hp you have, the better the recover will be. Most of people build it as a first item because of its powerful effect.

Crucible
You can build it to block your opponent's spells such as Phinn's Forced Accord, Adagio's Verse of Judgement or Catherine's Blast Tremor. But you can also use it to protect your allies from a nearly death.

Atlas Pauldron
The only case when building atlas is at your advantage is if you face auto-attackers such as Ringo, SAW, Krul. It slows your enemy's auto attacks so that he deals less damage.

War treads
It is one of my favorite items. There is multiple ways to use it, such as engaging a fight faster, run away or even dodging abilities. It's a must when you face mages. Indeed, you need to get in their range fast and kill them instantly before they stack their broken myth and deal too much damage.

Stormcrown
Makes a roamer a third carry. This item is made of Stormguard Banner and Chronograph, which gives you cool down reduction for your abilities. After using them, you'll deal more damage with your next auto-attacks.

Late Game Top

In the late game, you probably have at least 3 activable items to help your allies, and you're tanky enough thanks to your items and your heroic perk Julia's Gift. Once again, you need vision. You need to know where your enemy is 90% of the time, especially after Kraken spawn. I know your inventory will be pretty full, yet you always need to have flares with you.
Special tip : if for any reason you do not have flares or [Scout Trap]], you may face check a bush having your Vanguard already activated and ready to click on your ally if it's too dangerous, to get out of the fight.

What's more, and what i think is essential, do not consider Ardan as a tank too much. Of course he needs to tank some damage for your allies if it's necessary, but he especially needs to stay close, to boost/protect them.
Quick example : Your comp is Ardan Kestrel Ringo, against Skye Skaarf and Lyra. Enemy's hit box and range is almost the same as yours in terms of abilities and auto-attacks. Therefore, if you are overextending, they will stack and put free damage on you without allies being attacking them. Yet, if you are close to your team mates, both range will be similar, and you will be able to boost Ringo/ Kestrel to start the fight.

Moreover, do not forget that Vainglory is a 3 vs 3 game, and you notify that notably in the late game. You always need to stay together. If one of you is alone and gets caught, you give an important advantage to your opponent, which can be game deciding.

About your abilities, as i said before, do not use your Vanguard just because you see it available. Keep it for what you think is the best situation for it, and try to imagine when your ally would like to have it.
Once more, your Gauntlet can be used offensively if you see that the enemies are split, if not, try to do it yourself. However, do not fear to use it if you are alone and want to get away if you get caught. It's better to be all 3 alive with no cage than 2 against a full team with Kraken.

At the very end, you can buy Weapon Infusion to deal more damage, preparing a decisive fight.

Conclusion Top

Thanks everyone for reading! This guide is only my point of view of Ardan's gameplay and not all situations have been mentioned. Yet I hope you get the idea of how to play him and define your own playstyle. If you have any question you can contact me on Twitter.
