INTRODUCTION Top

Note: This guide was originally created by player NicJoelLim in the official Vainglory forums. NicJoelLim is the author; I am just helping make it available on VaingloryFire.

This guide is about map awareness and the use of signals. I'll be writing this guide from my experience of how people tend to use them and how I feel that signals should be used. Let's not overlook them! They were created for a purpose.

First let's see what signals there are!

TYPES OF SIGNALS Top

There are 3 kinds of signals. Below states the name, description and sound.
1. GO (Green Circle) (Ping)
2. AVOID (Red Circle with Cross) (Gong)
3. ON MY WAY (Blue Running Man) (Trumpet)

HOW TO USE SIGNALS Top

1) Tap on icons above minimap.
2) Tap on ground for precise direction
3) Tap on minimap for general direction
4) Tap on enemy heroes (follows heroes)

IMPORTANCE OF SIGNALS Top

Signals are very essential for communication. Teams not communicating via chat or skype should always attempt to use Signals to indicate intent. Teams should always take note of any Signals casted upon the map.

WHAT DO SIGNALS MEAN Top

1)
- GO on a location. I suggest you go here
- GO on a bush. Hide here. Or go and see if anyone is hiding there.
- GO on an specific enemy. Kill him.
- GO on yourself could indicate heal me or come to.
- GO on home base indicates teammate teleport back to heal.
- GO on Kraken area. Enemy is attacking Kraken. Or attack Kraken!
- GO attack creep to recover health.
- GO to petal's seeds to recover health.

2)
- AVOID practically means the opposite of the above.
- AVOID a location. AVOID a bush or avoid camping.
- AVOID an enemy may mean to target another enemy or avoid a fight all together.
- AVOID kraken or mines or turrets indicate warning to pick other objectives.
- AVOID on a teleport character may indicate to stop teleporting as it will affect potential battle or basically, stop whatever one is doing.
- AVOID on a character may be "Don't follow me".

3)
- OMW is quite straight forward.
- OMW to this place.
- OMW (on an enemy) to attack this enemy.
- OMW back to home base to heal, to jungle shop.

SPAMMING Top

I believe that there is no right or wrong to spamming Signals. Do not ignore Signals being spammed. If your teammate took the extra effort of taking the trouble of tapping out a series of signals, it's worth a look at. Never however spam too many Signals since they block out the minimap. Use in moderation.

Spamming can be used for
1) Indicating very strong opinion
"GO GO GO GO GO" or "AVOID AVOID AVOID"
More often than not the player with the highest number of kills or lowest numbers of death will be doing this. There is a reason they have such success preventing death or killing. Take note of the warnings or advice. Your teammates may have calculated or seen things that they predict an outcome of a move.
2) Directional Signaling.
"GO" in a straight line/"On the way" in a straight line may be used to indicate intent in that path.
"AVOID" in a cluster at a section of the map or at a bush may indicate suspicion.
3) Series of Signals
"AVOID" here because I'm "OTW". "GO" backwards here instead.
"GO" for the Crystal Mine. I'm "OTW" lane. "AVOID" Gold Mine.
"AVOID" soloing the battle. "GO" back to tower. I'm "OTW" to lane.
"GO" here. I am "OTW" too.
More often than not harder to understand but try to cause it could mean win or lose.

CONCLUSIONS Top

Signals should always be used or considered because they are the only means of communication!
