Quick Guide - For those who don't have time to Read Top

  • Crystal Petal works best in Jungle, compliments best when your lane is going Weapon
  • Bramblethorn Seed have Vision - use it on camps, and line them up in bushes
  • Pro Skill Leveling Tip - don't level your Bramblethorn Seed at 5, skip it so you can level YAY, PETS! to 4 at Level 6 along with your Ult
  • Always build defense
  • Follow your Support & Support your Lane
  • Petal has the best range in the game, that means she is squishy and should always be on the outskirts of the fight
  • End Game, Infusions are the final nail in the coffin

Petal Reborn 1.6 Top

First let me say that Petal was my favorite character from the beginning; in fact she was the first character I purchased. Needless to say, I was less than happy when she got nerfed, but I got over it and moved on to other characters. I got pretty good and am currently at Simply Amazing with 500+ wins.

With 1.6 she is once again a viable character and here are the reasons why:
  • Improved Pet AI and Speed
  • Vision on the Bramblethorn Seed

So why Jungle?
At least in my ELO she still isn't great in the lane. There is just to much AOE and you can only Spam your abilities so quickly before running out of Energy. However, in the Jungle it is so easy to leave seeds everywhere for a constant regen and respawning of your pets if needed. Man can she clear a jungle and quick. And that's really how you start to get a leg up on your opponent, clear your Jungle faster than they can and start to invade.

When to Pick Petal Top

Don't be that player who rushes to play Petal after you read this guide. Pick Petal if you think you it will mesh well with the Weapon/Crystal division. Team comps are so important and that is why I recommend getting good with the 5 different types of characters and builds.
  • Lane Crystal
  • Lane Weapon
  • Jungle Crystal
  • Jungle Weapon
  • Support
For the purposes of this guide Petal is Jungle Crystal

It is important to balance your team out with one Weapon and one Crystal, because then the other team has to choose which defense they are going to build up, leaving room for the other to crush them. This is why I usually will pick Jungle Petal if I guess my team is going to go some form of Weapon Lane.

Game Play: Bramblethorn Seed FTW Top

If you have Petal, your team is in no shape for a Jungle invade, so don't do it. Your power comes from your Pets and you won't have them till you have at least cleared your Jungle once, assuming your support gives you all the kills (as they should).

That being said, you can easily start to set yourself up for success by planting your Seeds EVERYWHERE. With the new 1.6 update, they provide vision which is huge. Drop one in front of every minion camp, drop them in all your bushes and when you start to invade, leave them scattered throughout the enemy side as well. This is a huge part to what make Petal so damn effective in the Jungle. Treat them like mines. Yes I know they have very limited range for vision, but so what, it is free and costs you no gold and hardly any energy.

Best practice for these is to start trying to make walls of seeds. This is good for 3 reasons:
  • This way your enemy Junglers can't get past them without you seeing them.
  • If you have to fall back to your seeds they provide a bit of heal (stacks) and shield and armor (not sure if these stack of not, I'm guessing no)
  • If your pets gets killed, you can instantly be back in the fight without having to wait for your cool down to plant 3 more seeds 3

Pro Tip about Skill Leveling Top

In higher ELOs players will often forgo the leveling a skill and this can give you a huge advantange, though it seems counter-intuitive. I can't show you how it works in the guide leveling, but I can explain it:
  1. Level 1 Seed
  2. Level 2 Pet
  3. Level 3 Pet
  4. Level 4 Pet
  5. Level Nothing (Leave the "+" alone, it is tempting I know!)
  6. Level 1 Ult and Level 4 Pet
  7. Level Nothing
  8. Level 5 Pet and 2 Seed, and so on and so forth

So why do this? First, it keeps the energy cost of your seeds down. Second it allows you to get your Pets skills to level 4 a full level early, which translates to more Pet Damage, more Pet Heal, more Pet Life.

Defense: Remember if you die your DPS is 0 Top

Defense is not a glamorous buy, but is really necessary. Early levels I usually forgo it, but I will always buy at least one defensive item before finishing my first Tier 3 item. And just for clarity, I consider boots defensive.

Consider what you are going to buy by comparing what type of damage your enemy Jungler is building.
  • If they are going Crystal a Light Shield
  • If they are going Weapon get some Light Armor
  • If you are concerned over stuns, start towards a Reflex Block
  • If you are feeling aggressive and want to start invading, get Sprint Boots
  • NOTE: Boots will NOT help your clear time, so don't buy them in hopes to increase that, if you are doing your Jungle clear properly without any speed enchancement you will clear your Jungle get to the Jungle Shop and still come back to the far Spawn camps and spend time waiting.

As a safe bet, and if you aren't that skilled with anticipating your Enemies builds, I would Recommend Atlas and Fountain. Between the 2 of them you are covered for most situations except crazy burst damage.

Build accordingly, don't get stuck in a Template

Damage Output Top

Honestly, you can go whichever you really like when it comes to Crystal damage. My personal preference is:
  • Frostburn: Keeps them slow and in my range
  • Broken Myth: With Petal's range and pets it is really easy to stay engaged and keep your stacks up
  • Eve of Harvest: Health Regen on every Pet chomp is no joke - I have outlasted a Saw on Full Spin-up because I was the focus instead of my pets

I don't usually care for Alternating Current because my auto-attacks aren't that important, and weapon speed is also not as important since my pets hitting at a rate of 3 times a second it feels like. This might be good if you decide to go Lane, but that has been untested by me.

If your Enemy is building a ton of Life I might opt for Aftershock instead of Eve of Harvest. With the relatively low timers on your A and B skills, you can really put some hurt in there.

And even this this should go without saying, don't forget Crystal Infusion
