Ingame strategy limitations

Strategy ultimately comes down to communication, and let's face it, Vain Glory is somewhat lacking in this department.

Let me begin with myself as an example. I enjoy playing Koshka (Crystal build), so I rely on jungling to farm xp. Koshka is mincemeat when it faces the likes of Taka, Krull, and Catherine in a 1v1. Koshka works better supporting other characters with ambushes and dealing splash damage so your team members can kill off the enemy team one by one.

I have used a pretty strong build by Tinmut. In equal levelled one on ones, I have fared very well, often finishing matches with over ten kills and one or two deaths...if unlucky. Koshka however relies on xp and needs to be ahead or equal in level, to be a formidable opponent. Now here's where we fall short. The lack of communication impacts strategy.

Unable to create simple or complex strategy plans the game suffers from a luck factor. It's like Call of Duty with the fast paced run n' gun rather than taking Battlefield's strategic player approach. I'm sure people will criticise this statement, but it's true.

I am unable to assign tasks to players. It's not that I feel the need to command but when there is someone who takes lead of a team, they usually win. I have used the 'go' 'avoid' and 'omw' buttons to command with effect, however less experienced players have trouble following along.

I am also unable to curse at those pesky people who take the last shot of a kill you have worked for. Yes, if it works for them, then tough stuff on me. But it does affect the team. Your team is only as strong as your weakest link. If one player suffers a battering, due to low level, due to his team mates stealing his kills, then it goes down to the team and again links to communication.

I think what we should see is a system where you can send quick message using hot keys (from a collapsable menu). Words like 'fall back' 'need health' 'clear the way' 'aim for turrets' etc. OR, if possible, enable microphones for people to talk to team members.

The mic thing would be so cool! I'd love to talk to some of you guys. As a regular Koshka, I feel your pain. The jungle is where I am supposed to be but laners keep wandering in and taking my kills. It's so frustrating. While they do this, the enemy advances and we lose.

First off, I can assure you the devs are working on a way to implant a chat system of some sort. They're thinking before a match if you have a party you can plan that somewhat.
I disagree with the mic. I for one wouldn't feel comfortable using a mic to speak with other players, plus, I wouldn't enjoy hearing people swear constantly. (Not trying to target you, I understand the pain when someone steals the last shot while farming.) Besides, the devs don't want a huge free chat where people could say whatever they please, since the know people can/will be rude, obnoxious, and it would also invite a way for more people to troll.
I'd prefer the hot keys. They'd be simple, easy, and useful. And less confusing than the pings.

someone is communicating because i've witnessed groups that have very coordinated efforts/ strategies. i think they are either using IM or some other chat.

Ive been in games where my team can work together effectively by just using pings. I think it just comes down to experienced MOBA players that can understand each other with what we got. We have the same mindset so we don't even need to speak when we know when go go all-in or back out. Just my 2 cents.
Sniping with Ringo all day.
CHALLENGE: In your next game, only use Utility Items and Consumables (:

There are, actually, people who use an outside app to talk to other teammates. It's called "Line"

I was looking at the line app, problem is that you can't run it and VG at the same time. You would need two devices. If that is the case, I would rather use my laptop to communicate and my phone to play.

I agree. I've had some pretty successful games with just the use of pings. You kinda have to feel out your team's play style and how experienced they are.

I think that in general it will be hard to control games that have people who are less experienced. IF and when we implement a chat system the before game prep would actually be really important to gauge your companions habits and coordinate a preliminary plan. Of course there will always be problems but I believe they will improve as the game moves forward.
