Petal A Crystal build Petal can be easily mitigated with a few Thunderbolts against her munions. Attacking munions with Joule's Thunderbolt is a great way to build stacks AND nerf the Petal.

  No Threat
7
Ringo His range is an issue for her in lane pushing.
7
Krul A well built Krull is so Vampy that they can out-survive just about anything...even a Joule.
8
SAW SAW is super bursty and has killer range. Keep an eye out for when he's spun up if you are working against him in the lane.
9
Petal A Weapon build Petal is really brutal against Joule due to her crazy range on basic attack.
9
Catherine Be VERY careful in team fights. Your Big Red Button laser will splash off of Catherine's shield and can cause you to essentially Ace yourself.

What to do and when... Top

Joule is a wonderfully well rounded hero. She's tanky enough to survive well, very mobile, and with the right build and smart execution, VERY lethal. She can rock the lane, or eat up the jungle. In the lane, her range is not as great as Ringo, SAW, or others until her Ult, so you'll need to be very cautious with your positioning.

You should always build Thunder Strike and Big Red Button whenever available. Rocket leap is really useful, but it doesn't really gain use as it levels.

Thunder Strike stacks on hits up to 6. Try and kite enemies in order to keep your stacks up.

Big Red Button can be a game changer. It's range is the longest in the game and as such, can be exploited with skill. Did you know you can hit the Kraken or Gold Miner from the lane? You can use that specific exploit to steal... it's tough, but it works.

Use her Rocket Leap to hop over walls to navigate the jungle efficiently or gank, but it's best use is in trapping enemies. If a gank is about to kick off, or an enemy is running away, leap past them to block their way, stun them, and make it easier for you and your attacking partners to gobble up the enemy hero.

Get her a small crystal battery as her first item so you can spam her Thunderbolt pretty much constantly, then build to Sorrow Blade. Follow that with Reflex Block, Boots, and any survive items that counter-build the most lethal heroes on the enemy team (always keep track of their builds in the Score screen).
