Blackfeather Blackfather has a ready-made reflex block (C) with immense sustainability. Being one of the top mobile hero BF can build up stacks on Glaive easily kiting from just outside of Glaives range with(B) and close gap with A when he wants too. His A ,C makes him harder to shake off or outposition.
4
Reim Jungler Reim makes life hrder for invaders.
5
Taka Taka's stealth based kit and ability to dodge and gap-close often restrict mele heroes to secure a kill even if Taka's health is very low. Taka can escape only to comeback with recovered health.
6
Phinn Immune to Afterburn knock-back/ stun. Also burst damage causes little problem because of Phin's immense HP.
7
Krul In long fights, krul will defeat Glaive. Also a timely stun from Krul's ult makes escaping harder, as well as stopping the knock back of afterburn.
8
Catherine She can stun as well as reflect a huge chunk of Gliave's burst damage.
9
Skye Skye is one of the most mobile character. She can re-position using Suri Strike and then Forward Barrage for good amount of damage. Skye can combine Suri Strike with Death From Above to dominate position against most of the mele heroes.

1. Hero Description Top

Hunt the Weak
Slot: Heroic Perk

Glaive's critical strikes cleave in a 4-meter cone in front of him.
  • Cleave deals half damage to minions.

Getting full advantage of Hunt the Weak is all about awareness and proper positioning. As the main objective of IIC Glaive to take down high dps wp carry fast, the initial Afterburn should be from such an angel that Glaive will end up in such a position that his damage on carry will get bonus cleave damage on enemy Captain or jungler. How to combine Hunt the Weak with abilities to get maximum burst damage output is discussed in Mechanics section.

Afterburn
Slot: A

Glaive rockets in the target direction, damaging all enemies along the way. His next basic attack is replaced by a frightening blast that knocks his target back 5.5 meters and briefly stuns them.

One of the most versatile abilities in VG. It is useful in initiating, positioning Glaive for getting advantage in team fight, out-positioning enemy, gap-closing, escaping, stun, saving allies, escaping, dealing damage, atlas carrier and some other situational uses.

Twisted Stroke
Slot: B

Instantly executes a critical strike.
  • This ability deals weapon damage, but it can deal bonus crystal damage if you have any crystal power.
  • Triggers basic-attack effects.
  • Passive: Increases critical-strike chance and AOE-cleave damage of basic attacks.

It gives guaranteed crit, also its passive gives crit chance and AOE cleave damage. Also Twisted Stroke counts with basic attack stacks to get maximun damage out of Bloodsong. It also has a good range crit AOE damage over range.

Bloodsong
Slot: C

Swings Glaive's axe in a 5.4-meter circle, dealing massive area damage that increases with the number of Bloodsong stacks used. This removes all stacks.
  • Passive: Glaive generates Bloodsong stacks from basic attacking or from receiving basic attacks (max 20 stacks).
  • Each stack grants Glaive bonus lifesteal.

Glaive should initiate team fights when he has max or near max Bloodsong stacks. Geting these stacks are very important. The AOE damage is massive when he has full 20 stacks. Lifesteal helps to sustain in teamfights. also I should mention that, Twisted Stroke counts in building thestacks for Bloodsong.

2. Introduction of SC+AS or IIC (Invader, Initiator, Cooldown) Glaive Top

This is a special build use to achieve the main jungler oblecyives: kill the enemy carry and save/aid ally carry (discussed in 2.2). This build prioritize Glaive's kit usage over wp scale which demands more skill based mechanical knowledge. This build is more suitable for VG 2.1 patch than traditional Glaive wp builds(discussed in section:2.1).
With a proper build this Glaive can crit with huge WP damage over a nice range that can put whole enemy tean in instant disadvantage. There are so many options to choose from, from knocking back the enemy captain and exposing carry to Afterburn behind the enemy line and deleting the enemy carry from the teamfight, Glaieve can do it all. This build maximizes his potential. What he lacks from lack of WP items, he can more than make up for it using positioning, proper synergy of items and kits and timing.

Here I present Burst IIC (Initiator, Invader, Cooldown) / SC+AS Glaive. He starts the fight when he feels like it, he makes the enemy to position where he wants them to, he ends the fight when he wants.
Enjoy.

2.1 Why SC+AS/ Burst IIC (Initiator, Invader, Cooldown) Glaive Top

This build and playstyle are used for countering highly used wp carry meta in VG 2.1 patch. Except Adagio, other CP carries fall out from the meta recently. This is mainly because of more lane presence of Captains/Roams. They do the lane freezing for wp carry by poking enemy laner. Hence the laner don't have to be exposed. Wp laner can clear minion waves a lot faster. Once unfrozen, high hp captains along with minion wave can soke up cp damage from enemy laner and CC damage from enemy Captain. Meanwhile wp carry can deal subsequent amount of damage over enemy carry forcing him to miss farms or even wp carry can secure a kill. Also the meta bp+tm/ bp+attack speed builds allows wp auto-attack carries to do huge damage in team fights while sitting behind securely high hp captains+jungler.
Glaive can reach behind these front line, stun, atlas wp carry, pushthe prime target back from fight and do massive burst cleave damage that burst over AOE, even kill/help killing enemy carry quickly by exposing enemy carry to ally damage.
With this build he can also invade, farm and building stacks for Bloodsong quickly and make his presence known on lane more often.

2.2 Objectives Top

Main objectives of Burst IIC (Initiator, Invader, Cooldown) Glaive are:

1. Push prime target/damage dealer target back from team fights and stun.
2. Sometimes, do the opposite of 1, if knocking towards your team can gain more situational advantages (specially ganks)
3. Doing maximum cleave, burst AOE damage over multiple enemies.
4. Atlas enemy carry,
5. Invade enemy jungle.
6. Initiate a teamfight.
7. Push enemy captain early game to expose carry/ stop ults.
8. Push back closest chasing enemy to help low hp ally carry.
9. Chase escaping enemy.
10. Peeling ally carry.

3. Item Guide Top

In this section i will discuss starting, mid and late game items as well as item explanation and why and when to choose some items over others.

3.1 Starting and Early-game Items Top

I recommend starting with a bit wp: Weapon Blade and attack speed Swift Shooter along with Halcion Potion. After that u can pick up Stormguard Banner, Sprint Boots, Hourglass and then upgrade them to travel boot and Chronograph.
U can pick up tier 1 defense items Light Armor or Oakheart.
Don't forget Halcyon Potion and Flare

3.2 Mid- Game Items Top

Rush to Aftershock and Stormcrown, Pick up Light Armor, upgrade/buy Reflex Block and Light Armor Also u can go for more wp by upgrading Weapon Blade to Six Sins.

3.3 Late Game Items Top

Rush to Atlas Pauldron and Upgrade Six Sins to Tension Bow. Upgrade Sprints boots to Halcion Chargers for energy issues.

3.4 Situational Items Top

Halcyon Potion: U should carry some in early game.

Flare: Its always good to have them. Specially for this Glaive, because helps to avoide ganks during invades specially against heroes who use stealth like Taka, Kestrel, Flicker.

Weapon Infusion: Buy before initiating major teamfights.

Crystal Infusion: If u need a really low cooldown.

Crucible: Buy this instead of Aegis If 2 or 3 members of enemy players have defining ults. I.E. Against a team consisting:

Adagio, Phinn, Koshka. Or
Catherine with Echo, Ringo, Krul etc.

In both cases Carry needs Reflex Block for Yummy Catnip Frenzy or Hellfire Brew or From Hell's Heart. So Glaive should help out Caption in blocking Verse of Judgement or Forced Accord or double Blast Tremor coming out from Echo Catherine.

Fountain of Renewal: Buy this instead of Atlas Pauldron if both enemy carry and jungler are using CP base builds. Or buy this instead of Aegis if both both enemy carry and jungler are using CP base builds and u don't need to worry about blocking special abilities.

3.5 Item Explanations Top

Stormcrown provides more basic attack dama Glaive to
1. Faster cooldown.
2. Do a little ore basic attack damage. This however, Scales eith Twisted Stroke which is basically a basic attack destributed over AOE.
3. Invade enemy jungle.
4. Quickly building stacks for Bloodsong.
5. Farm quickly and make his presence known on lane more often.

25% ability cooldown with some CP and Lifesteal. This item suits nicely with Glaives kit. Faster cooldown allows to use Afterburn more frequently. Frequent use of Twisted Stroke gives more crit damage more crit chances, burst damage and more stacks for Blood Song, not to mention a sustainable CP ratio.

This matches perfectly with Twisted Stroke. When Twisted Stroke and Tension Bow bonus damage are used in synergy, it gives a huge crit damage that is AOE over a nice range. Also after initiation, After burn's knockback also deals 180 bonus damage from Tension Bow (if available). It also gives +45 Weapon Power and the Armor Pierce also comes handy.

this item is a 'must-have' in IIC build because this build is specified mainly to counter auto attacking WP carries (such as Ringo, Vox, Gwen etc ). This is also a must-have against WP junglers like Krul, Blackfather etc unless both jungler and carry have CP based buildes (which is a very rare case).

I have picked Halcyon Chargers over Journey Boots because Halcyon Chargers solves for energy issues. Besides Halcyon Chargers with faster Afterburn cooldown gives Glaive enough mobility.

This item should be upgraded only all other items of recommenced build is complete. Until then Reflex blocked should sustain. Its a good item against CP laners and junglers. Also very helpful to block CC abilities, which is specially useful during teamfights, as enemy captains will try to stop Glaive from gaining positional advantage.

4. Gameplay Top

In this section I will discuss the most efficient way to use this Glaive build in different phases and situations. I will avoide which items to pick in differnt game phases as it is discussed in section 4.

4.1 Invades Top

Invade enemy jungle whenever possible. With Stormguard Banner Glaive can quickly farm and also steal farm on 1vs1 cases. In a position of disadvantage he can Afterburn away. Afterburn can dashes over obstacles, rocks and some walls, makes it a one of the best initiation and escaping mechanism. The main objective of these invades are to gain level advantage and starve enemy jungler. In highly risky cases (I.E. If all enemy members are invisible from map) invades should be avoided. Map knowledge and proper timing makes these invades/stealing successful.

4.2 Ganks and Teamfight Mechanics Top

In ganks, u should push enemy heroes away from their turret. This push-back applies a basic attack, hence if Tension Bow is already bought make sure u use those bonus WP damage.

Glive can do huge AOE damage that can define teamfights. Gaining these burst cleave damage on multiple heroes all about positioning and timing.Blood song deals massive area damage based on number of Bloodsong-stacks used. Ideally, you want to go to a teamfight with 20 Bloodsong stacks. You can gain a Bloodsong-stack by basic attacking or Twisted Strokeanything or when an enemy hero deals damage on you. Glaive also gains full stacks of Bloodsong whenever he dies. In teamfight this is the most important AOE weapon of Glaive. A well exicuted Bloodsong = mass destruction.
In teamfight u can use Afterburn knock-back and stun prime target This however must be done with full team synergy, else it becomes useless. However you can also knock the carry towords your team if the team decides to attack him/her first. There is also an option of knocking back enemy Captains, exposing squishier targets. You need to select these options wisely according to situation and hero composition. Don't end up doing a SC+B+TB damage on bubbled up ( Stormguard activated) Catherine.
Also its important to remember Afterburn knockback (5 meters) has higher range than Twisted Stroke (4 meter) and just a little more than Bloodsong range, which is 5.4 meters. You need to approach and position accordingly.

4.3 Early Game Top

Start from twin creeps near ancient treeant. Attacking ancient treeant first isnt recommanded. If u catch enemies attacking it u should try to steal it and then invade quickly because one of the enemies will be low health from treeant damage. Early re-spwan time is very low. So after geting first blood and some creep steals go back to your jungle.
If u dont see enemies then take healing creep after twin creeps. If u dont find any enemies on map, check if they are stealing your backcamps.
Quickly farm your jungle, check on lane for ganks after each rotation. Steal enemy jungle as much as u can your build and kit will have advantages and positional-mobility over most of yhe heroes in early and mid stages.

4.4 Mid game Top

Try stealing the healing minion near gold-mine whenever u can. Be more careful on enemy jungle. Farm quickly and be aware if your carry needs you in lane. In case of teamfight follow section 4.2. Try initiating teamfights. Late mid-game teamfights are advantageous for Glaive. Be aware if your teammates needs you to take down gold-miner. Its usually Captains call if the time comes. If enemy is dead or retreating, keep an eye on opportunities to collect gold from gold mine. Dont forget infusions before teamfights.

4.5 Late game Top

Try initiating 3vs3 teamfights from late mid-game to early and mid-late game (See section) 4.1. Try to end the game before its too late as this Glaive build starts falling off after 18-20 min mark. You must try to finish the game before that but dont over-push your boundaries. Again, infusions are very important in these stages.

5. Conclusion Top

Knowing what, when and how to do is a lot easier than implementing them in real-time conditions. To make any build or strategy successful a cool head is a must. I suggest you guys to play this build not only to win, but also to have fun which is the most important thing in some cases. If u get bad initiations or bad beginning try to get the most out of it rather than giving up.

Well, that's about it. Your fear is making me hungry, so I'm gonna go and grab something to eat now ;). If u enjoy playing with this build please let me know. Vote and comment if u find my guide helpful.

All the best wishes.
