Early Game Weakness Top

Kensei is much weaker than any other hero early game, he needs items to be able to start dealing massive damage. Play safely and don't engage in reckless fights as he will usually not be strong enough.
Once it hits lategame and he has a few items under his belt he can and WILL tear teams apart.
While he is very powerful, don't be an idiot and try to fight a 1 v 3. Play smart.

You can build either more attack speed for faster barrier generation from Immovable Mind or build pure WP and rely on raw damage to kill enemies. Imo, I would recommend building a mix of both.

Using Kensei's Abilities Top

Immovable Mind - Kensei generates stacks by attacking enemy heroes or jungle monsters. Once enough stacks are obtained, Kensei's next basic attack deals bonus damage and grants a burst of barrier. Kensei's basic attacks also deal more damage scaling with his target's health.
- This makes Kensei even more powerful against Captains / durable Junglers.
- You can keep attacking the Captain to build up your barrier, then jump onto the carry with extra defense.

Lotus Strike - Kensei rushes forward, swinging his blade and dealing basic attack damage in an arc in front of him. This ability can be reactivated two additional times within a short window of time.
- Since this can be reactivated up to 3 times, Kensei can avoid damage and CC with this or catch up to targets running away.
- Every time you use this in fights, try to basic attack while doing it so you can build Immovable Mind stacks.

Kensho - Kensei strikes his target and leaps backward, entering Kensho Stance. Using another ability within a short duration provides bonus effects.
- Empowered Lotus Strike will have an additional slow
- Empowered Path of the Ronin will also stun those hit
- You DO NOT have to stay in this stance and wait for your abilities to come back up. There is a short window for you to use your abilities after canceling the stance.
- Although the Fortified Health gained from this helps, try not to stand in this stance for too long.

Path of the Ronin - Kensei readies himself before quickly rushing forward, dealing basic attack plus bonus damage to all enemies in his wake.
- Can go through almost any wall for surprise ganks, especially when empowered by Kensho.
- Best for catching up to targets and moving around during fights.

Basic Ganks / Surprise Engages

1) Kensho empowered Path of the Ronin
- The amount of distance that Path of the Ronin can close is ridiculous, meaning that you can instantly jump from the Jungle or Brush straight onto your target. It is especially effective when empowered with Kensho as you will stun the target if you hit them.

2) Lotus Strike from Brush ( Kensho empowered or not )
- Even though it might not seem like much, it's still scary to see Kensei quickly jump out of nowhere. Empowering it with Kensho increases the distance and has a slow as well, so Kensei can easily catch up to enemies.

3) Lotus Strike + Kensho + Path of the Ronin
- After getting in range to use Kensho with Lotus Strike, the empowered Path of the Ronin will stun the target for you to use Lotus Strike again and chunk down health.

Itemization Top

Core Items

Serpent Mask - Since Kensei uses a mixture of both Attack Speed and raw WP, the lifesteal from this will help immensely with his Immovable Mind passive barriers so keep him fighting.

Breaking Point - With how mobile Kensei is he can easily stick onto targets to keep building up stacks on both Breaking Point and his Immovable Mind passive.

Other WP Items

Bonesaw - Most of the time you will be dealing enough damage that buying Armor Pierce is negligible. But if you see the enemy team start to build into items like Atlas Pauldron or Metal Jacket then buying Bonesaw can help you keep doing consistent damage.

Poisoned Shiv - If you need to counter build someone sustain reliant or against a heavy sustain team, then this will do the job. A nice balance on attack speed and WP on top of Mortal Wounds.

Sorrowblade - Both Lotus Strike and Path of the Ronin do basic attack damage, so by building just WP you can increase the damage of both of those tremendously.

Spellsword - The CDA and Energy return are useful in keeping his abilities off of cooldown so you can use them more frequently to move around and deal damage.

Tornado Trigger / Tyrant's Monocle - If you want to be more reliant on his passive Immovable Mind to generate barriers building Crit would seem like the better option as Tornado Trigger gives so much attack speed.

Defense Items

Aegis - Getting a Reflex Block is absolutely crucial on Kensei. He can't stay mobile if he gets CC'd to death.

Metal Jacket / Atlas Pauldron - Build into armor if you're taking too much damage from WP carries or want to build defensively to act as a frontline for your team.

Slumbering Husk - The hard counter to burst-reliant heroes such as Koshka and Gwen.

Capacitor Plate - This item is amazing on Kensei since it helps make his barriers even stronger from Immovable Mind. I haven't gotten to testing it but from the balanced stats to the increased movement speed to allies, it looks pretty good.

Boots

Halcyon Chargers - My reasoning for saying that these can be bought on Kensei is that with his A + Ult, he is already very mobile, so the increased Sprint time along with the CDA can help him spam his abilities more.

Journey Boots - If you're against more mobile heroes or have a hard time chasing then the low cooldown on these boots will help you to secure kills more easily.

War Treads - More HP to be tankier, while also providing your team with more speed.
