Skaarf Skaarf and Petal can be easily countered with the fountain of renewal and aegis.

Petal
4
SAW Saw and Ringo are usually easily countered with your metal jacket items, but watch their builds closely to start a counter item early.

Ringo
5
Celeste Not as bad as Taka or Krul, but still has heavy burst crystal damage untill your defense items help mid-late game. Watch out for her stuns when placing your gauntlet.
5
Adagio Unlike the other support heros, I tend to attack for adagio first. He's usually relatively squishy, and the sooner his heal spell is gone the better.
6
Ardan As with Catherine, always target the enemy Ardan last.
7
Catherine Make sure you kill all the other heroes and go for her last. Her stuns can really hurt, especially when you're trying to help an alli escape, but later in the game your bonesaw should take care of her heroic perk with ease.

  No Threat
9
Taka Taka and Krul can both have huge burst damage, which naturally doesn't sit well with Ardans heroic perk. Try to take them on 2V1 early game, but can be dealt with in a 1V1 later on.

This is my first VainGlory build. Items go from left to right in order of priority. I'll try to keep updating it and add more to the page soon. Good luck!

Skills Top

Vanguard - This skill has a multitude of uses, and can really make for some amazing swings in battle.

The barrier and speed boost can save fleeing allies, while also damaging and slowing their attackers. You can put it on a Taka or Koshka just before they jump into the mixer with an ability. You can use it on a Skaarf or an Adagio while their ultimates are channeling. You can use it on a SAW during their immobilized Suppressing Fire. You can use it to get that one last hit on a fleeing target near a turret and get away with their life. You can also you it just for general mobility, like moving between lane and jungle or from minion mine to minion mine. It's also nice to boost a slower alli as we're simultaneously leaving the home base, and normally it will have cooled down by the time you get to where you're heading and would need it again. However, when using it for general mobility, do not use it just before a fight, you don't want it to be on cooldown when you get in that last ditch situation two moments later. Using this skill on yourself grants half its bonuses effects, so only do this when it's casual mobility, if your team mates are in good standing and you're about to die, if you're in a 1v1 with a hero or farming minions alone, or if you're about to take a hit from a turret.

Blood for Blood - Your main burst damage.

Honestly not much to say here, use it often, always prioritize heros. Bonesaw gives just enough damage increase to pair nicely with it's overdrive. Feel free to take a whack at a minion while running past to boost its cooldown that last 4 seconds while chasing an enemy.

Gauntlet - this skill also has a number of uses.

Enemy near the shield will be thrown away from the walls slightly, which is good at splitting teams in two and singling out weaker targets. Enemy trying to jump at you using a skill will be stunned and damaged, and their skills will not damage their target inside. It's useful for keeping enemy from running away from an allies ultimate. You'll also find yourself trapping enemy near your turrets for quick kills when they're pushing your lane hard, or away from the support of their turrets while you're pushing against them.

Items Top

Ironguard Contract - The extra gold will help you save up quickly early on, and the slight health regen keeps you in the field longer.

Oakheart Dragonheart - Essential for keeping your vangaurd shield up to par

Sprint Boots Travel Boots Journey Boots - Mobility is key

Blazing Salvo - The attack speed is very important early on as you do not do much base damage.

Piercing Spear - Gives you a relatively large damage bonus when using Blood for Blood

Bonesaw - Great for team and solo fights. Basic attack, then use Blood for Blood, then basic attack again to quickly build stacks.

Shiversteel - Use this just before Blood for Blood or just after your boots when chasing. The strong slow can also ruin the enemy in team fights, finish them as they flee so they can't come back to support.

General build/gameplay Top

At the beginning of the game, buy your Ironguard Contract and two Halcyon Potion and head out into the jungle to get started. Go to the center of the map straight away to fend off enemy invades, especially if the enemy has two junglers. If you have the upper hand, push through and invade their jungle to steal the monsters and gold. Get to level two as fast as possible to get your Vanguard ability and purchase an Oakheart or Dragonheart to boost its strength.

Your next priority is to get some Sprint Boots and Travel Boots so you can run up and help in the lane when needed, without it taking forever and showing up too late. The key is to be watchful and get there early to turn things around before they get out of hand, even if it means running away from your jungle monster to do it. Always Vanguard and save your buddies first so you can fight again later on, plus it's damage and slow can turn a fight around on its own.

The next item should be the Blazing Salvo to allow use of your Blood for Blood more often. At this point if your struggling to keep your health up you can start building a counter defense item. If the enemy is heavy weapon power start with Light Armor then Coat of Plates. Get a Lifespring next to help keep your health up after battles and in the jungle, but avoid upgrading to the Metal Jacket untill at least your first two core items are finished. At the end of the game you will usually have both a Fountain of Renewal and either a Metal Jacket or Aegis, but if the enemy isn't going heavy on either weapon or crystal builds, you might be able to get away with just a Fountain of Renewal.

By now you'll have your Gauntlet ability so finish the Bonesaw and start stacking. Finish Journey Boots next for some more health and defense, then get a Shiversteel to chase down and upset fleeing enemies when your Gauntlet is on cooldown.

Once everything else is finished you can get some end game items and Flare Guns to keep track of the enemy with. The warhorn is particularly useful at the very end when you've pushed into their base and are attacking the final two turrets, for a quick burst of speed to get away from them, or to finish off an enemy before they run back into their base for health.
