Ardan Ardan just doesn't ever seem to be a big threat, Joule's heavy plating helps with a long haul punch-out style duel with Ardan and if you stun him with your rocket leap mid battle you'll be in good shape. You can also kite away as well.
3
Catherine Catherine is an enormous pain, I HATES the Stormguard! I kite her and get away, she never really seems to do enough damage to keep from getting away.
3
SAW SAW is such a powerhouse but Joule's strengths counter him so well. When he tries to shred the lane with his Suppressing Fire chopper, he is still and you can straight DELETE him with your Big Red Button or your Rocket Leap. SAW is slow and his abilities leave him wide open. Make your team so happy by taking care of this big bad lane gunner.
4
Celeste Celeste can deal some damage but is pretty squishy. Surprise her with Rocket Leap and she should retreat quickly. People are getting some strong game going with Celeste so expect her to get stronger as folks improve their builds and game with her.
4
Petal Petal is pretty straightforward, with Thunderstrike you can take out the munions and she isn't very fast. You can also really take a monster toll on both Petal and the munions with your Rocket Leap.
5
Glaive I have had some epically fun duels with Glaive in a one-on-one, its a hammer-fest. Sometimes you will tough him out, sometimes you gotta Rocket Leap and go. If you surprise him with Rocket Leap you have a good chance of doing massive damage because of his lack of speed.
5
Skaarf Skaarf is kinda quick and kinda hard to pin down. The little dragon is quite a pain to get a targeted attack on and the Dragon Breath is not only dangerous but smelly too! Skaarf has probably been eating munions again... I tend to avoid this goopy firey mess unless I can Rocket Leap surprise the little beastie.
6
Adagio If Adagio is kiting well then watch out, also with this build you are pretty slow early so if you try to stomp and he survives and fires off his Verse of Judgement you could be in real trouble.
6
Joule In the early game, a typical weapon power Joule is going to beat you up pretty bad. After you get your Shatterglass and Eve of Harvest you win all. day. long.
7
Ringo Ringo... if he knows how to kite, you might as well be a potted plant. I swear I hear him laugh at me as I try to Thunder strike him down. If I can surprise him though, he'll scurry for his little one-armed life, a lot of time if he's about 33% health or so, you can take him out with your Rocket Leap and close the deal.
8
Taka Taka is a nuisance. It is the most irritating thing ever to get the X-retsu blast, load up to Rocket Leap and have the little ninja fox disappear before your eyes! GAAAHHH!!
9
Koshka I really believe Koshka has been big time revamped as well with update 1.2.0. She gets in, slices you up like a loaf of bread and sprints off leaving you wondering how you ended up in a tornado full of cat-nip and razor blades.
9
Krul Krul is my dog. Love this guy. He can be a one man high speed wrecking crew. One-on-one will most of the time be a losing battle, especially if he slows your attacks by letting his spectral smite stacks fill up and cut your attack speed. If you can surprise him or if you can engage him one-on-one then unleash the Big Red Button badness on him you have a chance. If he retreats and you can Rocket Leap on him, good times!

The 1.2.0 Joule Build! Top

Hi! Nicky Tsunami here with a new build! Thank you all for the love on my first build, Ringo for Noobs, it made it to the Vain Glory game news page and has over 20k views! Thanks so much.

SO...to all you Joule Junkies, opportunity knocks! It seems like Joule has been left behind and is a less popular character in the game right now. I think she was a little soft, a little slow and a little weak which is disaster in this game!

I think that has changed, big time.

I've recently taken up playing Joule again after fun runs getting better with Krul, Petal and SAW and I really think that the recent update has further improved Joule's ability to be a massive game changer.

Early Game Build (~6min.-ish) Top

Early game, get your Halcyon Potions, your Ironguard Contract and get into the jungle. Try to work the jungle as hard as you can without getting into too many team battles yet. Right now you are super slow, super weak and super squishy. Get your Rocket Leap early and use it to ESCAPE. If you do get in a team fight, drive the opponent off then get outta dodge, turret diving with Joule is a disaster! Also, get your Sprint Boots its a good escape tool to have.

Right now the priority is to stay alive and get leveled up as fast as possible. I usually try to be near level 6 by 6min in. It is tough but doable and if you get there you are ahead of the game. Buy Crystal Bit and Energy Battery and build your Heavy Prism and Void Battery en route to your first game-changer, Eve of Harvest.

Also, do your team a favor, get a Scout Trap and put it way in the back of the Gold Mine. It's a pro move and will help you keep an eye on the gold mine and eventually the Kraken later in the game. Your team will love you for it.

Mid Game Build Top

Here's where things get really fun, really fast. Eve of Harvest helps recharge your life while you stomp, shock and blast your way through the jungle. You should be able to remain in the jungle and keep your life up with the crystal lifesteal of Eve of Harvest and your energy should stay up too thanks to its energy recharge.

Remember to keep farming because this build gets fun when you clear about $6000 gold and earn your Shatterglass. Let's have a little heart to heart about our main steampunk gal Joule, the Big Red Button and Shatterglass+ Eve of Harvest. The Big Red Button has a 520% crystal ratio. 520%!!! That means at max level, you'll deal 1750 base damage + (50+150 crystal power x 520%) = 2,790 damage! That is an unbelievable number! You aim this thing right and unless the opponent has built real deal shield defense, they are going to either be dead or close to it if they are anywhere close to your beam. As a comparison, Adagio's very scary Verse of Judgement maxed out with the same power-ups makes 1,190 damage, less than half of the Big Red Button!

In addition, the Rocket Leap maxed out deals 450 base damage + (50+150 crystal power x 110%) = 670 damage with a 1.7sec stun! In comparison Krul's ULT maxed out with the same upgrades is 750 damage with a 3sec stun. Rocket Leap is like having another mini-ULT!

Late Game Build Top

Now that you are late game and your kills should be doubling your early game deaths, let's add to the build. Late in the game I find that the team I'm with will glue together and hunt as a 3-person gang. If its up to you lead the charge and be on the offensive, I like to build Alternating Current and/or Frostburn and/or Clockwork. Frostburn and Alternating Current add even more crystal power which just makes your abilities mind-blowing. Frostburn slows opponents down 35% max (you'll be at the max) for 1.5sec. I like it if I'm fighting really quick opponents.

I like Alternating Current if I'm battling a lot of opponent tanks. One cool thing about Alternating Current is your Eve of Harvest heals you with the crystal lifesteal from the crystal damage every other swing Alternating Current is activated.

Clockwork of course speeds your ability slowdown and if you are really pushing the offensive game hard, the enemy will feel like you are constantly unleashing you abilities on them. You can put an immense amount of pressure on the enemy if you're ULT is up every 55sec. and your Rocket Leap is up every 5sec and you can fire your Thunder Strike every second. EVERY SECOND!

If I have an offensive powerhouse like a really banger SAW or sharpshooter Ringo, I go support with a Crucible and a Fountain of Renewal. Just keeping these two alive and gunning with you as back-up with your Big Red Button ready to go is enough to push a lane really hard.

Final Thoughts Top

A note on your opponents. They are going to underestimate you, and charge in to try to take you out, you might even take some early deaths as you are building your Shatterglass and Eve of Harvest, don't worry. Keep plugging away. When you max your Rocket Leap stomp awesomeness and you land one square on an opponent, stun them then ROAST them with your overpowered Thunder Strike, you'll have them running for their lives. They won't want anything to do with you.

Surprise is your best friend here. Your Joule is a nightmare, a jungle stalker that can leap from no where and take half an opponent's energy in an instant. To your enemy, every bush in the lane has a Big Red Button waiting in it to unleash the beam and roast you alive leaving nothing but a smoldering, shuddering, crispy SAW/ Celeste/ Petal-y mess in the middle of the lane. So fun.

Aiming. Think about your Rocket Leap and your Big Red Button. As soon as you fire these off, your enemy is going to MOVE FAST. If you take just a second to think about where they will turn instantly when they know they are in harm's way, you'll hit them square on. In the case of the Big Red Button they have one chance to get out of the beam or they are toast! Laugh when you see your opponent run for the hills when you fire your Big Red Button!

Keep Calm and Joule On!

About me - Find me at NickyTsunami and I love to play with folks of all skill levels! I love a good team battle and working with my team to get a win! I main with Joule, SAW, and Krul and I like Petal, Skaarf and I Glaive a little too :)

PS - If you use this build against me... I will LOVE IT! Good luck!
