Tony Tony is rather sticky with his Jawbreaker. Also, lots of cc, so beware.
8
Blackfeather Crikey mate.
8
Flicker Yep, just mash that Boots button. What's that? It's on cooldown? What a shame.
9
Ardan Ardan's Perk means that Skaarf's perk does about 1 net damage per tick (Damage over time minus Ardan's healing). Also Ardan is hella mobile so it should not be a very difficult feat for him to escape your Goop. And that Gauntlet, man.... sheesh.
9
Anka I think this is pretty self-explanatory.
9
Reza Also pretty self-explanatory.
9
Inara Ugh. Don't even get me started.
10
Lance He can lock you down with his A, cancel your ult with his B, and escape your Goop with his C.

Introduction Top

Hello and welcome to my Skaarf Guide! I am on a quest to become a Skaarf one-trick and reach Vainglorious (though I am not awfully sure if that is realistically achieveable - but hey, it's worth a shot!). I have learned a lot about this adorable dragon, and I wish to share that knowledge with the VainGlory Community! Let's get started!

Ability Points Explanation Top

Now, I know what you're thinking: This guy's ability levelling is total wack. But, hear me out; I know that everyone else overdrives Spifire and then Dragon's Breath, but I personally believe that it is much more beneficial to overdrive Goop and then Dragon's Breath. Allow me to explain:

- Overdriving Spitfire only reduces the cooldown by another 0.5 seconds and increases the damage by only 60. That's it, folks. Quite underwhelming in my opinion.
- In addition, the energy changes to Spitfire in 3.8 make it more costly to overdrive Spitfire, since it will use more energy each time.
- However, overdriving Goop has plently of benefits. The unignited duration is increased to 10 seconds and the ignited duration is increased to 7 seconds.
- This allows Skaarf to have THREE Goops at the same time! Throw down a Goop, then throw down another when it comes off cooldown, ignite them with Spitfire, which will actually reset the duration to 7 seconds because they have just been ignited, then throw down a third Goop when it comes off cooldown again. Ta-dah!
- The ignite damage and damage per second of an ignited Goop puddle also does much more damage than a single Spitfire.
- Dragon's Breath should be maxed at level 12 because it provides an extra 10% shield pierce and an extra 100 damage per second. Because the exhale of Dragon's Breath lasts 3 seconds, this equates to 300 extra damage. And if you hit three enemy heroes, that's an extra 900 damage. So yeah. Big numbers.

General Tips when Playing Skaarf: Top

- Skaarf is a relatively weak duelist, but he can more than make up for his lack of 1v1 potential through his siege damage, teamfight presence and zoning capabilities.
- Skaarf's power spikes are when he purchases Spellfire, hits level 2 and unlocks Goop and when he hits level 6 and unlocks Dragon's Breath.
- Yes, you saw right. Buying two Energy Batteries at the start allows you to spam abilities in lane and be much more of a lane bully.
- On that note, Skaarf is quite a lane bully, due to the very long range of Spitfire and the fact that he can effortlessly clear minion waves with a Spitfire-Goop combo. Snowballing the early game isn't actually your goal as a Skaarf player, but you'll find more often than not that you shall come out ahead in the early game.
- Remember to use Spitfire first, then Goop; if you use Goop first then you risk Spitfire being body-blocked and thus the Goop will likely remain unignited. Using Spitfire first means that you can better aim your Goop so that it is much more likely to ignite.
- Furthermore, Spitfire deals 15% reduced damage for each enemy it passes through, so try to avoid sending it through lane minions if you want to poke an enemy hero.
- Skaarf is reliant on Goop for damage, defense and utility. When laning against Skaarf, trying to poke him just after he has used his Goop ability.
- Remember to keep your distance when channeling Dragon’s Breath; Skaarf gains a movement speed boost while exhaling and this can be used to close the gap on enemy heroes. However, if Skaarf activates Dragon’s Breath in close proximity to his enemies, he becomes susceptible to crowd control and burst damage.
- Dragon’s Breath is also not a bad defensive tool, as it grants Skaarf fortified health while he is channeling.
- It is worth noting that all of Skaarf’s abilities only deal half (50%) damage to minions.
- The Blue Buff (Orb from the Crystal Treant) is very useful for Skaarf as it gives him much-needed sustain in the form of lifesteal. Trust me. Get Blue Buff whenever it’s up.

Conclusion Top

Thank you for reading my guide! I hope you learned a thing or two (or ten) about Skaarf which you can apply next time you play as him. I may update this guide in the future should I ever feel motivated enough.

Remember to comment, like and all that fluff.

Until next time!
