Aegis is a great all round defence which grants reflex block to protect against ganks in lane and long duration AOE ults from Celeste, Joule, Adagio, opposing Skarff, etc.
Build pure shield/armor to suit the situation only, check the scoreboard and ask;
Are they running weapon (armor), or crystal (shield)?
Are they crunching you first, or focusing another team member?
Are they reaching you, or are you maintaining a reasonable safe distance?
Do you currently have more kills/assists than deaths?
If you've answered yes to the last three don't rush defence. Keep re-assessing.
