Summary Top

Skaarf has been going an up and down journey. He was invicible on 1.4, then nerfed back to earth on 1.5.
Most people will say that Skaarf is unplayable. I am not totally agree with that. Yes, he needs some love to be on the high-elo games, but that does not mean that he is totally useless.

So my build will work well if you play him as a kiting hero. Don't try to be a champion and keep kiting and attacking, and you will be fine with him.

Analysis Top

In 1.5 Skaarf lacks so many things. The following is the list.
  1. He is way too slow for a ranger. Remember that he used to have speed of 3.4, now only 3.3. Solution to this? BOOT!!! Get him tier 3 boot before tier 3 defense item.
  2. He is just as weak as others. Remember that he used to have a much bigger armor, yeah, I bet nobody noticed that. His armor > 100, I don't remember exactly. That's why up to 1.4 Skaarf can be a good tank. Now? He's as weak as a paper. Solution to this? KITE!!! Be a good ranger.
  3. is not that great anymore. Skaarf's perk used to have a piercing effect and a decent amount of ratio. But Devs decided to remove all those. So don't even bother to apply many stacks on your burned enemies. If you can put two stacks, that's good enough, seriously! Solution to this? HIT AND RUN!!! Don't push yourself to apply many stacks. Your job is to apply fire and put one/two more stacks, just focus on the weakest or nearest hero. Remember weakness #1, you are slow now.

Solution Top

So my core build for Skaarf is only 4 items : Boot, Aftershock, Eve of Harvest, Clockwork.

Why boot? To kite, you need to be agile and swift. Tier 3 boot will definitely help you with that. Beside that, since 1.5 Tier 2 and Tier 3 has a different speed bonus. Thus you want to upgrade your boot up to tier 3 BEFORE getting Tier 3 defense item. So if you plan to get an Aegis, you can grab tier 2 shield or reflex block first, then rushed to Tier 3 boot.

Why Aftershock? This item will do 25% of your enemy's health. You can pretty much do a and two basic attacks, then repeat. It is way more effective than thinking of maximizing your stacks of burning enemies.
Remember his Spitfire has a very big radius. You can even harass the farthest enemy of all. And don't forget, this item has a lifesteal also.

Why Eve of Harvest? 3 purposes: Energy, Crystal Damage, and Lifesteal. Very ideal item for Skaarf this time. But I would not get Eve before Aftershock. I always get Aftershock before Eve, however, you must get a battery first before rushing to Aftershock.

Why Clockwork? Simple, my way of playing Skaarf is kiting! So I want to spam and use sometimes. Having both Clockwork and Eve will serve this purpose really well. Beside that, this item has a big cooldown, I can use my Goop every 6-7 seconds. And don't forget, Goop can save your life, too. This is also the reason why I only have 2 points on my ultimate and I put the 2nd point on level 12. This is because I want to overdrive Spitfire first by level 8 then overdrive Goop ASAP.
