Threat Hero Notes

  No Threat
2
Phinn Phinn is not hard to beat when he is alone. Although Phinn is pretty tanky, he does not do enough damage (usually) to kill you before you kill him. Make sure to only attack the Phinn when he has no allies around: if he does, instead hit the high damage-dealers, then focus on the Phinn.
3
Joule When I have played against other Joules, I have noticed not many of them build up a Serpent Mask, so the extra life steal should bring you out on top. Be careful when the other Joule channels her ultimate: Once you are out of the beam, make sure to channel yours so it is almost unavoidable.
4
Koshka Watch out for Koshka's high burst damage. Although Koshka is squishy, it does not help if you cannot deal any damage in return. Once you notice an opportunity, make sure to land a Rocket Leap and that should be the end of Koshka.
5
  No Threat
6
Catherine Watch out for Catherine's stun, especially when she has allies around. The moderate duration of the stun can be a death sentence if you are not prepared.
7
Skye Skye has the potential to deal tons of damage before you can react with Forward Barrage. When fighting against a Skye, always make sure to be careful and only go in to poke after she has used her Forward Barrage, or else you risk taking tons of damage. Avoid Death From Above or else it will probably result in a death.
8
Petal With Petal's Munions, she can easily deal quite a bit of damage to you at a range, while you cannot hit her at all. The key to success is hitting Rocket Leap and finishing her off quickly.
9
SAW SAW can deal a lot of damage to you very quickly, making it almost impossible for you to deal any significant damage back. Be sure to catch him off guard or have some allies there to back you up when confronting SAW.
10
Ringo Ringo can deal a lot of damage with critical strikes and Twirling Silver, and along with his Achilles Shot, he is almost unstoppable. Being quite squishy, though, look for openings to turn your weakness into your strength. An over-extending Ringo can easily be led to your allies.

Item Choice Top

Lane & Jungle
- Journey Boots
Journey Boots are essential to this build, as they can be used to chase down kills or escape from sticky situations.

- Serpent Mask
The life steal provided by Serpent Mask helps you to sustain throughout team fights where you constantly on the front line.

- Sorrowblade
The extra damage provided by this item is essential. Without it, you would not deal nearly enough damage.

- Tornado Trigger
Tornado Trigger helps deal damage faster, and it helps to steal more life with the effects of Serpent Mask.

- Tension Bow
Tension Bow should only be taken if your opponents' are building armor. If they are not, build a choice item instead, like Crucible, Tyrant's Monocle, or Fountain or Renewal.

- Bonesaw
Like Tension Bow, Bonesaw should only be taken if your opponents' are building armor. If they are not, build a different choice item instead, like Crucible, Tyrant's Monocle, or Fountain of Renewal.

- Warhorn
You can buy this item anywhere along the regular order of items, depending on the situation you are in. Warhorn is purely just for the extra movement speed, and it improves the already good Ironguard Contract.

Early Game Top

The most important thing you can do in the early game is farm well, and don't get caught during raids of the enemy jungle. Joule is not as tanky as she is late game, and she is actually quite squishy at level 1. Be careful where you tread, and always always remember to use your Halcyon Potions when they are needed. Visit the jungle shop not only to buy new items, but also to try to catch your opponents while they are buying items themselves. Building up stacks of Joule's Thunder Strike will help you clear jungle camps easier or clear minion waves faster. In lane, make sure to poke often with Thunder Strike as you build up the stacks, dealing more damage with each strike. Be watchful when advancing, though. Even if you are caught during a gank, remember that Rocket Leap can be used as an initiation or for a quick escape.

Mid Game Top

This is the point where playing Joule gets to be fun. At this point, Joule is pretty tanky and can deal a lot of damage, so when traveling around with allies you are almost unstoppable. Landing the stun from Rocket Leap can be, and usually is, the most important thing you can do in a fight. Use your ultimate to hit fleeing enemies at just the tip of the beam, for it will still do a lot of damage. Keeping up the pressure will surely push the enemies to their limits, making them make more mistakes and opening up more kill opportunities for you.

End Game Top

Once you have your full item set up, Joule is almost unstoppable. You deal tons of damage with both your auto-attacks and abilities, so be sure to alternate between the two. Thunder Strike becomes very powerful and has an extremely short cooldown, making it one of your most reliable damage tools. Don't be afraid to chase down an enemy for a kill. Be careful not to over-extend, though, because they may be trying to lure you to their allies. If you notice your opponents going for the Kraken, Joule is one of the best heroes you can use to last hit it. Just have vision of the Kraken, and when its health is low, just channel Big Red Button. In addition to stealing the Kraken, you might also get a kill or two on the enemy heroes.

Closing Top

Thanks, everyone, for reading my guide for Joule. This is my first guide, so if you have any comments or suggestions, don't be afraid to voice them! Thanks again!
