First I'd like to introduce myself , I'm a former competitive vainglory player , my name is Ghost and I shall have today a toast , hahaha.
From my point of view I'd say that this is an important role in most of the Mobas we have seen or played. Vainglory , Dota , LOL and many more.
People often think that the game depends on how much farm the carry has in your team or how good a player he is being a carry. The truth is vainglory is a battle between how good a roam is on both teams , no matter how good a carry u are , if your roam isn't good I don't think u have the higher percentage chance in winning the game unless u get to steal a kraken or the enemy ends up making mistakes. Which btw in both cases rarely happens in professional level.
I've been playing carry since season 0 in SEA server. My first teir was SA silver , then next season into POA gold and then I hit vainglorious. I've played with pro players and still do play with them. RevengerX , SuperarmBnG , H2K and many more.
SEA lacks people who want to play roam and also lacks people who appreciates players who play roam.
Most of the time I usually like to SoloQ , which is cancer in SEA. Nobody wants to play roam , NOBODY. Even though I like to play carry I had no choice but to play roam in soloQ ranked matches. U have a better understanding of the game when u play a roam , u are the one who has to decide when ur team has to initiate a gank or disengage from an ongoing enemy gank or fight. The perfect fountain timing , or the perfect crucible timing. Every decision u make affects the game as a whole.
There are very certain points to remember when u are playing a roamer hero.

1. Vison : This is the first and foremost duty of a roam. There is a saying , "vision is knowledge, Knowledge is wisdom." If u always have the knowledge of your enemy movements and where they are , or where they are coming from u have the upper advantage in game. When I usually play carry in ranked matches , I often see that SEA roamers doesn't place any scouts nor use many flares which enables the opponent and gives them the opportunity to gank u with an element of surprise. Which is obviously in the opponent's favour. U either get aced or ur team survives only to live and die another day. So please all the roamers , vision is really really important in game. I suggest that all roamers go for a contraption, it is a very useful item , it reduces ur skill cooldown also. It saves a great deal of gold u keep spending on those temporary scouts and flares.

2. Fountain : Usually people just use fountain when they feel like they should just press the damn button , but u need to know that fountain is all about timing . The lesser the health u have , the more u heal. Try to make good use of it and pop it when the enemy isn't expecting it.

3. Items : Building the right items , according to your opponent. This is one of the most important step in not only playing roam but also other roles. Usually I see people either go fountain crucible atlas wartreads , the same item build all games for all roamers. It is very important for a roamer to build according to the enemy heroes. For instance if your agaisnt enemy heroes depending on their attack speed like saw , Ringo or Blackfeather and many others. It would be smart to build an atlas first rather than a fountain. If enemy heroes have heroes who can go invisible then I'd be better not to waste gold continuously on scouts and flares and just choose to get a early contraption. On the other hand if opponent has many stun or disables just go for crucible as early as possible. The new item Gauntlet is pretty good and I think a must item for a roamer since it helps u silence the enemy roamer and stop them from using fountain , crucible or any important item that can turn the tide of team fights.

Well I hope this was helpful, I kept it short and understandable for new as well as pro players. Thanks for your precious time to whoever is reading this. Farewell and goodluck and keep VG!
