Intro Top

Hey guys! I'm ry_ playing from the Southeast Asia region and today, I present to you my first Skaarf build (my first build in general actually). I'm not too experienced in making builds and such so any constructive criticism is appreciated.
I love playing Skaarf with this build as you can not only get some sweet early game kills (due to enemies underestimating Skaarf's damage potential) but also deal chunks of damage mid-to-late game. Below are just my initial thoughts and strategies on Skaarf as it is still quite early in his release into the Fold, I thought I would share this so that players who have Skaarf can enjoy a new playstyle and have even more fun in Vainglory. For those who don't have Skaarf yet...fear the fiery flames!

Item Breakdown Top

Starting Items

Energy Battery Allows you to use your abilities more times, more sustain in lane.
Halcyon Potion For when you're getting poked down or for when you survive a gank.

First Back

After you accumulate around 1000-1200 coins, finish off the wave and get that last poke on the enemy laner
If you're low on health or energy, teleport back to base, if not, just head down to the Jungle Shop (be alert).

Void Battery An upgrade energy-wise, so you'll have plenty to use on your abilities and more times to poke with your Spitfire.
Crystal Bit Now you have more poking power, since your Spitfire will do more damage.
Sprint Boots Skaarf doesn't have any 'natural' way to escape from ganks and such apart from using his Goop to slow, so these boots will increase your chance of surviving and can also assist you in catching up to that Ringo who's on 10 health.
Oakheart Increases your health, means you won't be burst down as much and can also stay in fights longer.

Core

If your doing alright, buy Eve of Harvest followed up by Chronograph. But if the going get rough, and the enemy is focusing and stunning you a lot, immediately get Reflex Block, finish off Eve of Harvest and get Travel Boots.

Eve of Harvest Synergizes perfectly with Skaarf's burn damage, healing him and thus providing a lot more sustain. The lifesteal works very well with any of his abilities, whether its instant heals or heals-over-time.
Reflex Block Extremely useful against enemies who can stun and cancel your ult. Activate just before you exhale your giant cone of fire and hope that the enemies don't have a fast enough reaction time to stun you while your inhaling.
Travel Boots More health, more health regen, more speed; making you harder to lockdown.
Clockwork The massive cooldown acceleration means that you can use Spitfire way more often, drastically increasing your output damage and poking ability.
Shatterglass Now the enemies will FEAR your Spitfire and the burn damage that it brings, this is the time to melt your enemies with that fireball. With your Spitfire ready every 4 seconds or so, it becomes easy for you to fly in, launch a fireball, basic attack and get out.

Final Builds

For more Defense

Upgrade Reflex Block into:
Crucible For a large amount of health and a team reflex block (usually bought if the enemy is building weapon).
Aegis If your teammate has already bought a Crucible, and also to take less damage against enemy abilities (usually bought if the enemy is building crystal).

Metal Jacket Will take greatly reduced damage from weapon-built enemies such as Ringo, Taka and Glaive, improving your chances of surviving and dishing out more damage to them.

For more Offense

Aftershock More often that not, Spitfire will be followed up by a basic attack to increase the burn damage. Why not use this to our advantage and layer some slice damage and lifesteal on top of that basic attack. Aftershock also provides more cooldown acceleration, so you can essentially spam your Spitfire at this point.

Frostburn The slow from this item in addition to the slow from your Goop will make it very hard for dying enemies to slip out of you or your team's reach.

Alternating Current The increased attack speed will allow you to Fan the Flames even faster, building up a lot more burn damage while your basic attacks themselves are doing more damage. Great for really destroying your opponents.

Vs. Enemies Top

Saw

  • You basically counter Saw...HARD
  • Keep poking him with your Spitfire and follow up with a basic to utilize your Fan the Flames perk
  • predict when and where he will Suppressing Fire and make him pay the price for missing you
  • On full Spin Up, he will be a sitting duck for your Spitfire and Goop

Krul

  • Skaarf is the best equipped to negate Krul's insane lifesteal and health buffs
  • The longer the fight, the more burn damage your fire will do
  • But be careful, he can still do a lot of damage to you and can also cancel Skaarf's ult with his From Hell's Heart
  • Try to avoid getting his Smite stacks up by kiting and slowing him with Goop

Ringo

  • In a 1v1 showdown, Skaarf and Ringo will be relatively evenly matched
  • Just keep on using Spitfire, Goop and basic attacking, soon your fire will be draining his health down
  • Even if you are about to die, don't run, just keep basic attacking and hope that your fire can finish him off posthumously

Catherine

  • Catherine's Merciless Pursuit can also cancel your ult by stunning you
  • You may need more than one reflex block to make sure your ult does not get cancelled as it is a pretty long ultimate

Petal

  • Petal's Bramblethorn Seed and her Munion Pets will make it all the more harder for you to land your Spitfire
  • Ignite your Goop to try slow down and kill those Munions so you can actually get some damage in on Petal

Glaive

  • Much like Taka, Glaive can destroy Skaarf with his extremely high damage output and critical strikes
  • He can cancel your Dragon Breath ult at anytime with his Afterburn rendering yourself out of position and very prone to dying
  • Keep your distance with him, stay away from and be aware of bushes that he might be hiding in
  • Use Reflex Block during your ult to stop enemies from cancelling it

Taka

  • Taka will instantly obliterate you if you are not on full alert when pushing lane
  • There's nothing much you can do to stop him from cutting you to shreds
  • Use your Spitfire to check bushes for enemies and also place Goop in the bushes near lane to slow their gank
  • Also use Goop to slow enemies when they're chasing you

Spitfire Tips Top

  • your basic skill shot which deals damage to the first enemy hit, whether its a minion or hero
  • when poking, if Spitfire hits you're intended target, almost always follow up with a basic attack
  • enemy heroes will most likely use lane minions to block a clear shot from you, in this case, try weaving left and right, throw him off, and then move to the far left/right to fireball past the minions
  • Spitfire has quite a long range, and can also shoot through walls, use that to your advantage
  • use the fireball to check bushes for enemy heroes

Goop Tips Top

  • lasts much longer when not ignited, use it to slow and prevent ganks
  • lighting it on fire with Spitfire resets the time when it disappears, utilize Goop to it's maximum capability!
  • when speed-clearing lane minions, first Spitfire the big minion, then Goop the group. The big minion will light the Goop on fire and, in turn, light all the other minions on fire too
  • place it behind enemy heroes before initiating, to thwart their escape plans as well as doing additional damage
  • uses relatively more energy, so use Spitfire more often

Dragon Breath Tips Top

  • has THE longest duration (4.5 seconds) and is prone to stun cancellation at any time
  • use it as an initiation so your teammates get a speed boost and cause chaos and confusion, since the flames block quite a large space of vision
  • use it on enemy heroes who are trying to flee, slowing them down and allowing your allies to catch up and finish them off
  • activate Reflex Block just before you exhale your flames, so that when you're actually doing damage with Dragon Breath you don't get stunned
  • when spewing your flames, try to keep the enemy heroes in front of you, i.e don't keep walking forward as turning and moving around will reduce your damage output
