Petal This build focuses on rushing in for high damage, so Petal is virtually nonexistent on the field - or at least she will be once you get to her. You can heal the damage her minions rack up with Spectral Smite and simply outlast her.
3
Ardan Ardan relies on keeping the foes close to him to fight - and with this build you can capitalize on that big time. Once he throws his gauntlet, that's your invitation to give him hell - literally, use From Hell's Heart.
4
Joule While Joule can become super tanky later in the game, all her strong moves rely on successful aiming. Building boots allows you to get out of the way in time, and then you can rush in and strike.
4
SAW SAW is a heavily ranged character with only Roadie Run for melee combat. Get up in his face and use Dead Man's Rush's health barriers to keep him from hurting you too much while you rack up stacks of Spectral Smite.
4
Koshka Koshka doesn't really bring anything to the table against a good Krul. She is an 'in-your-face assassin,' according to her bio, which means she focuses on eliminating targets with low health. Lucky you! You can regenerate your own health mid-battle. This means Koshka isn't really anything to be worried about if you know what you're doing.
4
Rona Despite what you might think, Rona isn't really a huge threat for Krul. She's pretty squishy, so is you can get her isolated she's easy to deal with. Red Mist can hurt, though, so activate your shield item (if you have it) once she uses it to minimize damage taken.
5
Taka Taka's Kaku hides him from sight, and since both of his abilities move him around, it can be difficult to get a lock on him. If the other team has a Taka, stick around your teammates to prevent successful ambushes.
5
Krul When fighting your mirror image, all it really boils down to is who has the best timing, so preserve your abilities until they're absolutely needed.
6
Ringo Ringo's Achilles Shot slows the target, which can deny you a truly successful rush. Wait for him to use it on someone or something else. Also, watch out for kiting if you chase him.
6
Glaive Glaive relies on face-to-face fighting as much as Krul, but Afterburn can stun you into a very dangerous situation. If you can, avoid him altogether.
6
Vox Vox's abilities allow him to keep a distance from you, making it hard to get in his face, but if you manage to break through his spacing he's a pretty squishy character, so he will be gone pretty fast if you can withstand some sonic blasts.
6
Fortress Fortress occupies the same niche as Krul (Jungle/Roam), and his Bleeding applicants from his B Ability 'Law of the Claw' stacks like Spectral Smite. But the big deal here is that when it reaches five stacks, the target takes a large chunk of damage, is slowed by 30%, and gets a one-third debuff to healing. As you can see, this almost totally inhibits Krul. My advice when there's a Fortress on the enemy team: when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Stick with your teammates to avoid being targeted exclusively, and when his wolf minion comes for you simply hit it with one Dead Man's Rush, one basic attack, and detonate Spectral Smite, as the wolves only need to take three hits to die. Fortress himself is incredibly squishy early game, so prey on that by targeting him either first or second to get rid of his pestering abilities.
7
Celeste Celeste is all about spacing and scouting the bushes with her Heliogenesis, which really cramps Krul's style as a lurker and rusher. Wait for a teammate or minion to distract her, and then make your move.
7
Adagio The issue I encounter with Adagio players is they know when to use their abilities really well, especially the area-of-effect nuke attack. If he's charging up for that, get out of its range and wait outside it. Otherwise, don't attempt to chase him as he can kite you just like Skaarf can.
7
Skye Skye is one of Krul's hardest match ups. She brings the pain from a distance and does a better job of taking damage while being ranged than Celeste, making her both tough to catch and tough to kill. Your best bet is either to distract her with another of your teammates and then go in, or to surprise her from the brush.
8
Skaarf Skaarf preys on the fact that you have to stick around to deal damage with his lasting attacks, like his burns and tar pits. If a Skaarf is near, go find your teammates and try not to engage. If you're trying to chase one, ABORT. Turn around and leave him be because he'll burn you up with kiting Fireballs before you can get to him.
8
Phinn I'm just going to come out and say it: even Krul, master of 1v1s, stands no chance solo against a good Phinn. This gator-faced flapjack will literally just whale on you while you try desperately to get his Heath to fall. Never engage by yourself, always have someone nearby if you want to fight Phinn.

Introduction (Welcome!) Top

Hello, everybody! My name is GalacticAttorney, and I, like you, am a big VainGlory fan. As I've played through the game, I've gravitated towards Krul simply because I like his style. Seriously, who wouldn't think an undead man-zombie-corpse-thing with a giant sword from hell in its chest is cool?

But Krul is ranked as Hard difficulty for a reason. He's difficult to master and can be squishy and worthless if he's not treated right. However, I've come to VGF to share my own personal build that I've found to be pretty useful.

Welcome... to Krul the Ripper.

Becoming the Ripper (Abilities) Top

Krul is a force to be reckoned with in the Halcyon Fold. His presence in the bushes and jungle can be enough to terrify even an experienced player like myself. However, with this particular build, I've found a way to become an almost unstoppable warhead of doom. Here's how it works.

The primary focus of this build is the successful use of Dead Man's Rush. This move is invaluable for jumping into a fight headfirst, all the while gaining a nice health barrier that keeps you going for a few seconds. Use this move to either instigate a fight or to pursue fleeing foes.

Spectral Smite can be a nice follow-up after a few basic attacks following a use of Dead Man's Rush. It gives you a nice chunk of health back while dealing substantial damage to the target, which can effectively turn the tide of battle.

From Hell's Heart is a tricky move to master, but I find that if you throw it out and then dash in front of an enemy hero, it becomes the most effective. You see, the stun effect applied when it hits an enemy hero becomes longer the further the sword has traveled, which means if you throw it out and get in the way of a foe it will stun them for longer. This can be tough to pull off, but it's very helpful it it works.

The Ripper's Toolbox (Items) Top

Here I'll explain the uses and purposes of the final build items, or the items in the "What To Work Toward" category. Note that the items are arranged in said category in order of when you should get them: Boots first, Clockwork second, etc.

Journey Boots: These are the bare necessities. Krul is pretty slow without boots, and for this build you need to be able to chase down anyone who tries to run, as well as get over to where your teammates are if you are needed. Use the sprint sparingly, as you never know when you will need it most.

Clockwork: This is an important part of the Ripper build. It reduces the cooldown time of your abilities, meaning the time between your ability usages becomes smaller, which is useful if you're chasing someone and need to use Dead Man's Rush.

Shiversteel: This is very helpful to have. It gives you a massive health boost (+600), and its active ability slows down enemies you hit, helping you chase them if they try to run.

Aftershock: Just read the item's description: "After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 15% of your target's max health as damage with +50% lifesteal. Max 400 damage vs non-heroes. 2 second cooldown." This is an incredible boost to your basic attacks' effectiveness after going in with Dead Man's Rush.

Tension Bow: This might be a confusing choice, but it's actually helpful in the long run. Dead Man's Rush gains a 100% damage increase from your Weapon Power (WP), so this can be useful to bolster its damage.

All Slot 6 Options listed in the category "Slot 6 Options (Situation-Dependent)" can be helpful in completing the build, but it boils down or what your team needs or what your enemies are doing. Watch what they're building to know what to fill the 6th slot with. I personally recommend either Tornado Trigger to quickly rack up stacks of Spectral Smite or Crucible if your team is getting into a lot of teamfights.

Being the Ripper (Playstyle) Top

This build relies on the user being smart with how he/she uses their time. To start, go into the jungle and do some farming until the quarry is depleted. Then, either push into the enemy jungle with your jungle teammate for some extra farming or lurk in the bushes by the lane to assist your laner if needed.

Once you've gotten to Shiversteel you can start to make your presence more pronounced. Be more aggressive in going over to the enemy jungle and remain in the lane for longer periods of time. Note that, when in the lane, hitting a minion with Dead Man's Rush is useful for hitting off a free health barrier. Watch out for laners that hit hard.

Once you're nearing your Aftershock, the Kraken will likely have already spawned in place of the Gold Miner. You should be Level 12 by this point. Gather your teammates, silence the enemy team, and take the Kraken. Make sure her focus is on you, as you are likely the most qualified to tank her powerful hits. Once she's bested, follow her up to the turrets and tank them along with her to the Vain. Keep the foes at bay while she whittles away at the turrets, and you've got it in the bag!

The Ripper's Rampage (Other Tips) Top

There are some other things to note in this build that I encourage you to read before going into battle.

While this build recommends that you start farming in the jungle after the game begins, if your teammates want to invade the enemy jungle early, by all means join them. They're your teammates, and if you're not there they might not come out of that invade alive.

On the other hand, if the enemy pushes into the jungle early and finds you farming, run away. Just run. You're too squishy to risk a fight immediately after the game begins.

That's about all I've got. If I think of anything else I'll post it here. In the meantime, enjoy tearing your foes from this world!
