Why this build Top

To table of contents

It is true that Skaarf is an ability based mage in vainglory, but he has one of the most dangerous heroic perks. This perk, Fan the Flames, can kill anyone if burned for a sufficient amont of time.

This may sound crazy compared to a pure crystal based Skaarf, but that does not matter.
Yes Skaarf is very squishy and Skaarfs attack-speed is bad and we are still focosuing on that.

In this guide we will overcome the basic logical sense to creat an increadible hard to kill Skaarf, that will kill anyone that can not kill him first.

This build have pros and cons like any other build. Go to pros/cons by clicking here. But this build also forces you to play like "high risk = high rewards".

I am publishing this guide because I want to give all vainglory players another good Skaarf guide aside from the common crystal Skaarf, and because for fun.

How does this build work Top

To table of contents

In this build we are focusing on the attack-speed to apply Fan the Flames as fast as possible. Therefore we will not only damage them by 10% of their maximum health every second but also get back 4% of their maxumum health so you can keep attacking them and eventualy kill them with plenty of health left.

So in this build we are trying to get a Eve of Harvets as fast as possible along with a pair of Journey Boots.
This is done in early game to keep damage and energy going and finish of kills (or even steal them).

If anyone are wondering why we are supposed to build the Journey Boots so quickly is because of:
- 1. The sprint is reduced by 40 seconds which is very good because it will let you stick to your enemies in almost every early game fight so you can kill them.
- 2. They have the health regen of 8% so you get a lot of sutain that lets you get back lost health from a teamfight so you can fight again without dying. (basicly another non stacking Ironguard Contract)
- 3. They have sufficient armour and shield to reduce the damage from all early game fights, and the enemies do usually forget that you almost have the armour and shield from a Fountain of Renewal. The fountain have a very nice feedback from a lot of pro palyers about its stats.

Why Breaking Point over Alternating Current Top

To table of contents

The Alternating Current have great syenergy with Skaarfs mage attribute, but because in this build are we not focusing on crystal power but Fan the Flames so have I placed the Breaking Point in this build beacuse this build is so tanky that if the enemy do not lock you down first so will you be able to 1v3 unless they have a Krul (in that case will you win any 1v1).
It is true that the Breaking Point is only good if you can stack it for a long time and that is just how you want it.

The Breaking Point have the same attack-speed as the Alternating Current so you will not loose stacking power by using it but your damage will be higer and higer the longer the fight goes on so I am considering it to be more powerful.

There is always a better item in most situations where Alternating Current is good, but it has an overall good syenergy with Skaarf, so I have left it as a last item option.

Why so tanky for a squishy hero Top

To table of contents

It is actually because Skaarf is so squishy we build tanky.
The attack-speed is also not getting notably higher after 200%. It is worth more to build some tank items like Metal Jacket or Aegis so you can soak up more damage when getting the same or even more health from the double Eve of Harvest back.

It is true that Takas X-Retsu can stop this and burst you down in no time with both a Tension Bow and an Aftershock, but any good team is supposed to have a tank like Ardan or Catherine who shall make it impossible for Taka or anyone to reach you or damage you.
But even if you have a tank, you should still try to stick to your target so you can burn them down with Fan the Flames. Therefore you will still need that tankyness to not die in battle in less then 11 seconds.

What about thoose 11 seconds Top

To table of contents

It should be mentioned that it never takes more the 11 seconds to kill a target that is burning with max stacks of Fan the Flames. This is because when you have placed max stacks on them, they will not only have been losing some health frome the not finished Fan the Flames but also from your auto attacks.

This fact is only correct if the enemy is not using a lot of life-steal and is not attacking you because if they will, they get more health back then the damage you have already done (or in wrost case: heal more then the total damage you are doing to them).

Only a few heros can be a problem in this way, some examples are:
- A full based weapon Glaive with a Serpent Mask because of his Bloodsong.
- A full based weapon SAW because he have so much attack-speed thanks to his Spin Up
- A rapid-fire Skaarf just like you (only if using 2 or more Eve of Harvest).
- A full weapon Krul because of his Spectral Smite.

You may see that the examples are only wepon builds so if you face any of them I recommend you to build a Metal Jacket or in the case of a rapid-fire Skaarf build an Aegis if the Skaarf is not going full weapon.

Item explanation Top

To table of contents
Here can you see why I have choosed to use the items I recommend in this guide.

Breaking Point gives you the attack-speed you need to stack Fan the Flamesand the longer the fight goes on will you become stronger.

Bonesaw is a must to be bought if the enemy builds armour.
If you buy this item so should it be instaid of the Breaking Point

Eve of Harvest is so you can regain sufficient health when fighting so you can stick to your target but also escape a target.

Metal Jacket is for counter building if the most damage you takes is weapon based.

Aegis is just like the Metal Jacket but for counter build if you are mainly taking crystal based damage.

Alternating Current is a good last item but should only be bought if your team have no other damage dealer. Because this one is for speeding up kills and other items are usally better in most situations where this item is good to buy. Go to its own chapter here

Frostburn is an item for more ability damage but mostly for the slow that will let you either keep distance to flee or stick to them.
Since the latest Frostburn update, the eneemy is after affeckted by the Frostburn imune to it in 2 seconds. This gives Frostburn more syenergy in this build making it a posible option.

Broken Myth is only good if all opponents are building a ton of shield but it can still be good in this build because we have only been taking 2 points in Dragon Breath.

Aftershock This item is to get a headstart on the kill by removing 20% of their max health, Tension Bow is better if the enemy do not have an Ardan or are building a lot of health (but this item is better for non pro-players).

Tension Bow is the best item for a headstart in the kill but must be used careful because it is only every 6 seconds and then is is just reloded so if not very skilled so use the Aftershock.

Warhorn is very good and I usally take this item if the team have no suporter like ardan, it lets you stick to your target, it lets your team escape, energy regen, cooldown acceleration. A great item to get last.
- Ironguard Contract should be saved untill you have to sell it to get more space, if you will buy a Warhorn. So do not sell it.

Fountain of Renewal is not in my opinion good at all but many players like it and I know it can be useful so I have it here, use it when it will heal your team as much as possible but it will not revive a dead teammate.

The pros are:

- Can 1vs1 anyone and win (exept for Krul),
- High mobility,
- Domination the first 5 minutes of the game,
- Dominates the late game and end game,
- Can burn every third second.

The cons are:

- If you miss your Spitfire your damage will be almost nothing and you will die quickly.
- Can not tank a 3vs1.
- Good kiting skills is needed.
- Have to play saftely in early-mid game.

Tips and Tricks Top

To table of contents

Some useful tricks are:

- Use Goop on escaping enemies that are burning, if they are on low health, can this kill them if burning with max Fan the Flames.
- You are tanky but can by no mean survive a 3vs1 if you are that 1.
- When you know that you will die, so eather run away from the enemy team and teammates so the enemy will split up. Then your team may survive or you can take one of the enemies down with you with your death.
- Use you Dragon Breath only to intanate or help teammates flee and possibly die or finish of a kill with a teammate.
