Krul is my favorite jungler and I've experimented on a couple different builds with him, and I have liked this one the best. Start off getting Blazing Salvo because it's good to have speed with Krul, especially when stacking quick for his 2nd ability. Afterwards get stormguard banner to help you level up in the jungle and then shiversteel is a great item for Krul to slow down the enemy if they're fleeing. I love shiversteel because I'll be attacking an enemy and when they are slowed by it, I'm able to get one or two more hits i need to use the 2nd ability for a killing blow. As for the alternate/substitute items, it really depends on who your playing. I recommended Aegis just because it's good for the block. If your team doesn't have a roam or no one has fountain of renewal, definitely get that instead because I think EVERY team should have one of those. You can also get crucible if you prefer that over Aegis, but I don't recommend it because it doesn't have any shield of armor, but it does have a lot of health to it. You can also get Atlas Pauldron if the enemy team has good weapon damage and a lot of attack speed. You could also substitute bonesaw for one of your weapon items (I would recommend Tyrants monocle if you need to) if the enemy team stacks up on armor. Also, I usually end up selling the stormguard crown near the end of the game to make room for a defense item, because you should have at least one. You guys don't have to sell it if you don't want to, or if you prefer to just stay with the stormguard banner and then sell that you can do that to, but I just wanted to clarify that because some people may get confused on why it just disappeared.
