INTRODUCTION Top

Gwen is basically one of the easier heroes to play in the game. However, it requires smart positioning and using of her B Skedaddle to successfully block stuns and roots from enemy heroes. This guide will bring you through the proper build for Gwen as you go into the game and how to actually play her well and carry your teammates to VICTORY.

ABILITIES Top

Boomstick

Her passive is extremely useful for farming as well as poking the enemy laner in the early game. With the extra damage, you can last hit way easier and deal a heck ton of damage to the opponent. Try to make use of it as often as possible at the start to bring the opponent to low health.
HOWEVER, be sure to not get carried away and lose out on your farm. FARM IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND DO NOT SACRIFICE FARM TO DEAL DAMAGE (unless you can get a kill then sure why not)

Buckshot Bonanza

Great for the early game poke as well. Try not to use this to farm as you will run out of energy VERY quickly. If your play style uses this skill like CRAZY then I suggest going for the energy battery at the start.

Skedaddle

Basically another reflex block for you but also grants you extra speed for escaping. Make use of this well and anticipate any stuns or roots by the opponents. This skill is very easy to block Krul's From Hell's Heart or Ardan's Gauntlet. Also useful for Lance's Impale and Catherine's Merciless Pursuit.

Aces High

This skill is all about your aim and I can't really help you with that. Use it to stun the enemy laner in team fights, cancel ults, or when chasing after enemy heroes.

ITEMS Top

Sorrowblade is the first essential you should buy when you're playing Gwen. At the start of the game, just try to build Sorrowblade immediately. Keep farming until you have around 2000 gold and you can proceed to buy your Heavy Steel and Six Sins. Proceed to get your Sorrowblade once you rack up 1300 gold.
Either build this or a Breaking Point/ Tornado Trigger as your second 3rd tier item. Depending on the situation, if you can't last long in fights then get the Monocle to get that burst damage. If you can survive long enough get the attack speed to deal more damage over time.
VERY IMPORTANT. Definitely try to build this before you get your third 3rd tier weapon item. The block is very useful to block stuns and roots or simply just to block damage. Try to get this unless the opponent is running two WP heroes or their CP hero doesn't do much damage to you at all.
Unless you have a very early game lead, I strongly suggest against buying this item before Aegis. Crit is very important or you'll not be doing much damage during late game and you'll just be almost practically useless based on the meagre damage you dish out. If you built Tyrant's Monocle as your second item, get Tornado Trigger/ Breaking Point instead. Crit and attack speed are variables.

Variable Items

Get this item if you are basically doing A LOT of damage to the other team heroes. Basically they don't build defence against you and you are free to steamroll them all the way.
Get Bonesaw if the opponents build a Metal Jacket. This is a personal opinion because some people would still prefer the Breaking Point. Basically you have to see the situation and see if your stacks actually help you do much more increased damage to the opponent. If not, I strongly recommend changing to Bonesaw late game.
Not my personal favourite. Deals a heck ton of damage early game but kind of dies of late game during team fights. Not enough burst to kill the opposing team and it's better off getting a Tyrant's Monocle or even another Sorrowblade
Get this if you're taking a lot of damage from the opponent's WP hero. Don't bother getting Atlas Pauldron because you'll probably die before you even get to use it. If you're doing fine, feel free to replace this with another Tyrant's Monocle or even another [sorrowblade]] for fun. Tension Bow works too but not a favourite for me.
I would highly recommend this just so that you can have the energy to sustain throughout the game. This means that you can consistently use Buckshot Bonanza without having to worry about losing your energy. Journey Boots is fine but as I said, you're better off with energy throughout the game so you don't have to keep heading back to base to recharge your energy.

WHEN YOU ACTUALLY PLAY Top

Positioning

Try to stay at the edge of the fights as much as possible. Do not attempt to rush in. THAT'S A GUARANTEED DEATH. I have to admit the range of Gwen isn't very long so you have to be smart.

Team Fights

Don't bother going for the Captain especially if it's very tanky. Unless they cripple under your damage, try to go for the hero easiest to kill first (Basically the one that builds the least armour). Most likely the opponent laner will be the one easiest to hit so go for that first. Be careful when going against a Celeste or Kestrel. Celeste will probably half your health before you can even hit her especially with her overdrive on her Heliogenesis. Kestrel and her B Active Camo is pretty good for escaping as well. In this situation, Buckshot Bonanza will be extremely useful. This applies to Taka ss well.

Avoid using Skedaddle early in the team fight to chase because you'll probably need it for blocking or escaping once you realised your whole team is dead. Unless you're very confident you can get the kill, avoid using it.

Team Compositions

Gwen goes very well with a captain that can stun the opponent. This includes Catherine, Lance, Phinn. Phinn might not be the best of choice considering its slow speed so try to team up with a Catherine or Lance. For your jungler, it'll be great to have someone who has a long sustain so that you can continue hitting the opponents without them focusing on you. bleakfeather, Reim, Ozo, Alpha all make fantastic junglers with Gwen.

My current team comp is Gwen, Reim and Catherine. This 3 works pretty well and Reim's Chill Winds is an additional root to Catherine's Merciless Pursuit.

BE CAREFUL OF

BAN OZO. So far as I played Gwen, Ozo is the only one I am struggling against. His lifesteal on his Three-Ring Circus and fortified health on his Acrobounce is insane. Fighting against him is basically an ant fighting a giant. You're definitely not gonna win.
Just be careful of his X-Retsu. Once he gets on you it's very hard to escape. Make sure your captain stuns him at the start of the fight and get rid of him IMMEDIATELY.
Last hitting against Saw is a nightmare and is pretty hard to hit him because Gwen's range is extremely short. Try to stun him before going near him or you'll get annihilated.
Big Red Button deals a lot of damage if your reaction isn't quick enough. Get out of it ASAP. If you're slow I suggest getting a Slumbering Husk instead of a Metal Jacket just to survive her ult.
Block his Afterburn with your Skedaddle and all is good.
BLOCK HER mericless pursuit
You know what you need to block next right. This is getting redundant.

CONCLUSION Top

Gwen's a pretty sick hero, so go out there and kick some ***!
