Adagio In this patch, Adagio seems weaker and with no9 escape moves Glaive can easy kill him.
4
Celeste Glaive loves squishy targets. Get her fast and block her stun with a Reflex Block then it should be no problem.
4
Joule Joule is generally not played much this patch and Glaive is strong against her. Try ti attack her from behind to get maximal damage on her.
4
Ringo Glaive already stole Ringo one of his arms so you kinda know that he is stronger against him ;)
5
SAW A good Saw is always a threath but with the fear to be ganked all the time, Glaive is a good pick against him to stop pushing and holding him low.
6
Blackfeather Bloackfeather this meta doesnt seem that strong and a skilled Glaive can defeat him easy.
6
Rona Rona is a strong tanky melee hero, almost as good as Glaive. This matchup is mostly about skill.
6
Skaarf Skaarf is anoyying with his poke but one Glaive is on him he should be down very quick.
6
Skye This matchup is about skill and supporters. Early skye is easy to defeat with a well placed Afterburn and some Boots but Late game she is a pain for everyone.
7
Taka Taka is an early game machine. always keep Flares to not let him heal up again and stunlock him for easy kills.
8
Kestrel Glaive is much stronger than Kestrel in early game, however in late game it completely turns arround. With Kestrels B ability she can vanish every 4-5 sec which makes it hard to stay on her. Block the first stun with a Reflex Block and kill her fast!
8
Petal Petals range is very strong against Glaive. After she jumped and you have no afterburn it is hard to reach her and hard to get away! Plan engages good and burst her down.
8
Vox Vox, one of the best hereoes atm is a pain for Glaive. With his high mobility in the late game it is hard to stick on him and in that time he can stack on you very easy with his Breaking Point to rek your whole team.
9
Alpha Alpha is a very good Glaive counter. Glaive is strong because of burst but Alpha sustains for too long. I recommend a Breaking Point which will help you defeating her in longer fights. Alpha has no escape moves but she can chase very good! Make use of that fact.
9
Krul Krul is strong to Glaive but combined with a good support like Lance you can stunlock Krul and witho9ut attacking you he dies very quick.
9
Reim Reim is a threath for every melee jungler, however same as Krul, if you stunlock him it is easy to kill him.

Introduction Top

Hello and Welcome to our newest G2 guide! Today we will talk about Glaive, one of my most favorite junglers. We have already made a Glaive guild but that was another strategy to use him. Today it will be about the main use of Glaive as a strong frontline tanker with burst abilities. So lets get started!

Abilities Top

Hunt the Weak Top

Glaives Heroic Perk Hunt the Weak gives his critical strikes a small cleave in front of him, which allows him to clear his jungle faster and be more efficient in teamfights with small area damage. This perk also works will with other passive powers of Glaive which we will discuss later on.

Afterburn Top

Glaives first ability is by far his most useful one. It allows him to dash forward with his axe damaging all enemies on his line. Aftet the dash you receive a glowing axe for some seconds which will punch people in the direction you hit them for a few meters. This ability makes a very good Glaive and if you master it this hero can be a threath for almost every other hero ok the fold. Here is a short summary how you can/should use it correctly:

Use it to engage teamfights and punch one enemy back into your team or against a wall for a short stun. Also keep in mind that hitting him in a wall close to you will allow you to auto attack him after the Afterburn!

Use it to gank lanes very often if you can! This abilities is the most threathening ability for any squishy laner. Use it perfectly by runnin out of a lane bush with boots and punshing him back into your own laner

Escaping! With this dash you can even go through walls. Use this as a great escape or even a reengage through a wall. People will almost never expect you coming through a wall!

Twisted Stroke Top

His next ability Twisted Stroke allows him to perform a very quick critical strike with some bonus damage based on its level. Keep in mind that it will also create a cleave because of his heroic perk!
This ability also adds a passive effect which causes you to have more chances to hit with a critical strike. Building a Tyrants Monocle will increase the efficiency of this skill, thats why i recommend it as the best aggresive third item on Glaive.

Bloodsong Top

Glaives Ultimate Bloodsong makes him a very viable frontliner with strong damage output in the early as well as in the late game. Glaive can collect Blood stacks (up to 20)now, which will give him a passive lifesteal for each stack. This makes Sorrowblade or Tension Bow the best choice for your first item. You dont need a Serpant Mask for lifesteal but if you want you can also build one for additional sustain.
The only problem will be staying in melee range in teamfights. In addition you can always activate it so Glaive whirls his axe arround him, dealing massive crystal damage per stack. This ability is strong for clearing off enemies with burst damage and also gives you the ability to sustain in longer teamfights or solo in the jungle. In double weapon combinations this will be very strong because no enemy will build shield against crystal damage!

Gameplay and Strategy Top

Early Game Top

Glaive is one of the strongest lvl 1-2 heroes. His basic stats are very high so he has a lot of damage potential as well as high health. You can start the game with a Weapon Blade and get another one at the first shop for maximal aggression play. There is no need for early Oakheart because of his high basic stats.
Try to presure the enemy jungle early and gank a lot if times if the enemy laner is too far out in the lane. Get an early Sorrowblade as fast as possible and also dont forget early Travel Boots for rotations and jungle clearing. Some basic explanaitions how to use Glaives Afterburn are listed above. Use his Twisted Stroke immedeatly after an auto attack to get 2 attacks quick for more burst. In general every enemy is not very mobile in the early game so with a well placed Afterburn on a wall you can easily kill them fast without problems.

Mid Game Top

In the mid game you need to work more with your team. Some enemies might have armor and life to counter your burst so sometimes it is not possible to solokill enemies. Work with your Afterburn to put an enemy in a bad position and split him off his team. Also you should have at least a Sorrowblade, Travel Boots, Reflex Block and a Swift Shooter by now. Try to build a Bonesaw next because most of the people will counter you with armor. Also consider getting a single Minion's Foot just for additional crit and the guaranteed crit on your next badic attack. It will provide a small boost for your next fight and can also be sold if the inventory space is needed. If the enemies build no armor at all (which should not happen in a normal game) you can also consider a Tornado Trigger. Also get small armor or shield items if you have problems dieing to fast!

Late Game Top

In the late game you should have finished your Bonesaw and start working on a heavy defense item such as Aegis or Atlas Pauldron. Against double weapon enemies i recommnd a Dragon Heart and Atlas Pauldron\ Metal Jacket. Against any other normal comb an Aegis first should be enough. Try to look at the timer to get infusions at the 15 minute mark and also think of wheter you should go more offense or defense. As a third offense item i recommend Tyrants Monocle if you need more burst against squishy enemies or Breaking Point if the fights get longer. Also work more with your team because it gets harder for you to solokill most of the enemies. In the early game you have your level advantage to kill enemies with your nice basic stats but in the late they are all 12.
As always, train the hero and learn his mechanics and you will be a real threath in the jungle!

Synergies with other Heroes Top

Glaive is one of the most versatile heroes when it Comes to Team combinations. He is almost always useful in any Team when played correctly. But in this patch we found out some Special good Combos arround Glaive.
Glaive combined with Lyra or Ardan is great in jungle! Ardans Gauntlet has such great synergy with Glaives Afterburn as it Counts as a wall. you can stun enemies inside it and they will be stuck at the wall so you can still Auto attack them and dont need to walk to them first. Same happens with Lyras ability Bright Bulwark. in Addition the Speed boot of Ardans Vanguard or Lyras Auto attack slows help Glaive chasing their Targets a lot!
But as i said Glaive can be played with every supporter in jungle and almost every laner on lane. Try out some Combos with different heroes and you will notice fast that Glaive synergieses a lot with other heroes.
