[2.2] Ringo got nerfed D: Less energy at early levels pfft watevs just control your energy usage, maybe get an Energy Battery or smth if you really want to spam Achilles Shot
[2.3] Nothing changed, except maybe my thoughts on Reflex Block and also Tornado and Monocle have been changed

Guide updates

5/2/17-Guide created. Trying something new(creating a vid with random tips) GIFs and Synergy coming soon :P I am too busy
7/4/17-Updated the glass cannon part

Introduction Top

Greetings and welcome to my guide on my new addiction, gambling Ringo!

Yes Ringo, the greatest sharpshooter to ever traverse the Halcyon Fold!
He has never missed once!
Actually he can't miss his abilities don't allow him to but aaaanyyways
Pros
- Massive Damage Output
- Scales well throughout the whole game
- He does not miss hehehe

Cons
- Squishy. Reeeally squishy
- Gold hungry
- Does not have a good escape plan( Twirling Silver only provides a small boost)

His cons can be easily covered up with practice so read through this guide and start practising!

This guide is heavily based on Gold3n's guide on Reim, which is based on Neko's guide on Koshka. All credit goes to him/her (wow even this is copied I'm really unoriginal). I really liked the layout. Also, I used some of the templates from here to make the guide look nicer. As they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Ringo Jungle?

Sure why not. You can kite the creeps and take 0 damage. But I like to think of the Jungle as the "XP Farm" and the Lane as the "Gold Farm"
Ringo is more of a "Gold dependant" hero so going to the Lane would me more beneficial for Ringo as he does not rely on levels as much. For the purpose of this guide I will only be breaking down Lane Ringo.

Abilities

Double Down
Slot: Heroic Perk

Ringo's next basic attack after killing anything will be a critical strike.

Really helps with farming as hitting a minion without sufficient damage will usually cause you to lose farm.
Double Down will cause your basic attacks to crit and if you do manage to last hit properly will give you another Double Down

Achilles Shot
Slot: A

Ringo fires a trick shot at his target's heel (or whatever lower extremity exists), slowing the target & dealing damage.

Do not use for farming. Only if you're really desperate and about to miss a last hit. Mainly used to slow enemies down so you can kite

Twirling Silver
Slot: B

Ringo slings bullets at his target in a mad flurry, dramatically increasing his attack speed and move speed for a duration.
  • Activating this ability resets Ringo's basic-attack cooldown.

Your most important skill. It increases your attack speed and movement speed, so you farm faster, move faster and hit faster, allowing you to kite easily.

Hellfire Brew
Slot: C

Ringo takes a long swig from his gourd, then spits out a scorching fireball at his target. The explosion deals splash damage on impact and sets the target on fire, burning it & nearby enemies for 4s.
  • The fire pierces all shield on impact.

Used to finish off fleeing enemies or start fights. It should never be used in the middle of a fight as Ringo will be locked in place for a few seconds, giving the enemy time to melt him. This deals basically true damage except that it's CP damage with 100% shield pierce, not sure if it would make a difference as Vainglory goes on(maybe if they come out with temporary CP immunity or something), but for now it's technically true damage

Playing Ringo Top

You are gold hungry. Farm the lane. Dominate the lane. They used to call Ringo the "Lane Bully". Live up to that name. Harass when they are trying to last hit the minions, but be sure not to miss your own farm. Make sure you have vision though when pushing lane.

During fights you do NOT want to be in the center of the fight. You have to stay at the edge of it, dealing massive damage and kiting while not being hit. You are the carry, you deal the most damage. If you die your team has a much lower chance of winning, so don't.

Do NOT be the one face checking bushes or baiting fights.

During fights, target people in this order
1) Carry
2) Jungler
3) Captain
If the Captain is trying to bait you feel free to poke for free damage but do not go too far in and get ambushed

Kiting

Taking almost no damage and dealing a ton of damage

Kiting is an extremely important skill you have to know when playing Ringo.

Kiting refers to attacking an enemy while keeping a safe distance. For Ringo the safest distance would be his maximum basic attack range. A big part of kiting is Stutter Stepping which is explained in detail by ShinKaigen
As you can see, Stutter Stepping not only increases damage output, it also allows you to move at the same time. Which is great as you are so squishy. If you are able to kite the enemy without being damaged at all, I would recommend "The only build you'll ever need" as it has 0 defence but maximises damage output.

JOURNEY BOOTS
Before I continue I want to tell you guys how much I love this item. Boots every 12 seconds? Hell yeah!
This item lets you move really fast, which is good for stutter stepping and rotating down to the jungle to fight or to shop, and you can rush back up to lane so that you do not fall behind in gold, and to reset the boots all you have to do is poke any member of the enemy team, which is why I highly recommend getting this item.
"What about Halcyon Chargers?" you might ask, "I lose so much energy so quickly on Ringo"
Don't spam your skills(Unless you're CP with a Clockwork). In Update 2.2 they nerfed his energy so that it's not spammable, so just don't spam it. If you are using Twirling Silver too much you are doing something wrong. If you play Ringo properly, you should only use up 2 Twirling Silvers at most before the fight ends.
Usually when I'm low I ask my Jungler to let me kill a Treant or steal one from the enemy jungle if I know they're not going to kill me

WP Ringo Item Explanation

Item Function
Ringo does not have a lot of raw Weapon Power. Also helps dish out a ton of damage early game.
Helps Ringo battle heavy sustain tanks such as Krul and Ozo. Also grants extra attack speed
Lets Ringo hit faster and harder.
If they build heavy armour against you, then good job! You are a threat. Build this to counter their armour.
More damage
Reflex Block and shield against Crystal Characters
More health and a Reflex Block
Armour against Weapon Characters
Sprint every 12 seconds for easier kiting
Spamming Twirling Silver and Achilles Shot too much? Get this to mitigate the energy lost

Fighting with WP Ringo

There's not much to say here that isn't in the Playing Ringo section already

Kite the enemy

Kill their carry if they move into your range

Do not target their Captain, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A Catherine

Try not to spam your Twirling Silver. I included a Swift Shooter in the starting items as it make it easier to farm without needing your Twirling Silver. If you do well in teamfights, you'll only need Twirling Silver once. At most twice.

The only build you'll ever need

*THIS BUILD MAY NEED SOME TWEAKING DUE TO CHANGES TO MONOCLE AND TORNADO*

As you have probably noticed, this isn't an original build. I copied it from a player: x3Junnie. I copied it because I found it extremely effective with proper positioning and kiting. But before some noob starts copying the build, taking it to ranked and losing and blaming me for the bad build, let me tell you a few things first.

This build is NOT RECOMMENDED. It requires extremely good positioning. Extremely good. You have 0 defensive items and almost no mobility. Your only defence is to kill them before they kill you. If you let any form of Crowd Control eg. the Gauntlet, Forced Accord or Yummy Catnip Frenzy get to you, you're dead. Unless your Captain is legendary(very unlikely).
I RECOMMEND ONLY PLAYING THIS WHEN PARTYING WITH A CAPTAIN YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH!

x3Junnie actually built defence before selling it off for more damage. I have fed countless times early game with this build because of the lack of defence(and a hell lotta SAWs). You are not prepared.

But if you think you are, go ahead and try it. It really tests your ability to position properly. I suggest taking the regular WP build first before selling the defence in the late game.

*Update 2.3*

So Update 2.3 changed Tornado Trigger and Tyrant's Monocle a little, and now it seems like Tornado Trigger is better than Tyrant's Monocle. I tried to do the math but it's a bit complicated so I just tried it in practice mode:

I tested Ringo on the turret with Sorrowblade, Breaking Point, Bonesaw and

3 Tornado Triggers ______________ 1 Tornado Trigger and 2 Tyrant's Monocle

I'm not sure for now which is better due to Atlas Pauldron being a thing, and more Weapon Power would be better, but without any debuffs Tornado Trigger clearly wins (probably because of Bonesaw)
Make your own judgements for now

CP Ringo Item Explanation

Item Function
Helps Ringo farm and also grants extra attack speed. May be redundant due to Twirling Silver's CP ratio but it's still nice to have imo
Raw Crystal Power to decimate his foes
Lets Ringo spam his abilities more and regenerates energy faster. As a bonus it amplifies Crystal Power
Lets you launch two "true damage" fireballs :V
Amplifies all CP damage.
Reflex Block and shield against Crystal Characters
More health and a Reflex Block
Armour against Weapon Characters
Sprint every 12 seconds for easier kiting
Spamming Twirling Silver and Achilles Shot too much? Get this to mitigate the energy lost

Fighting with CP Ringo

Ideally you want to initiate with your Crystal boosted ultimate, Hellfire Brew to either waste their Reflex Block or to deal a ton of damage to them. Once they get hit by the fireball, run in(behind your tanks of course) and clean up. If you didn't initiate with your ultimate, maybe because you were ambushed, you can use your ultimate to finish them off instead. Once again I must emphasize, you do NOT use it in the middle of the fight. Your ultimate's channel can be stunned, or you can be burst down really quickly by standing so still.

If you are initiating with your Hellfire Brew, use it in the bush. You only get revealed after you launch the fireball, which means you can safely channel the ultimate before you get seen and targeted.

Echo

Of course this item will get its own section
Ok so you can launch two fireballs now. I know it is a ton of damage right from the start, but you do not want to use it consecutively. Why?
If you are initiating from the bush(brush watchamacallit), and why wouldn't you, your character will get revealed after launching the fireball. The enemy team will notice you, and start to dive on you. So either kite them, or launch another fireball(locked in place for another 3 seconds while the enemy bursts you down).
I assume you don't want to die and want to kite them out.
So what the heck's the point of Echo? To finish them off as they're running.
So tl;dr: First Hellfire Brew to initiate, Echo it, beat the enemy up, and as they're running use your second Hellfire Brew

Tips when playing Ringo

1. If you have one, Reflex Block
2. Don't die. It gives them gold.
3. Kill them instead. It gives you gold
4. Learn how to Achilles Shot while stutter stepping
5. Farm! Unless they're feeding so bad then you can farm off kills XD

Here's me playing Ringo. I put in some tips. Turn on Captions :P the music was too loud

Synergy Top

Captain Synergy

ALL HAIL THE GAUNTLET!!! It protects you from enemy heroes without Reflex Block. He can boost you and give you a barrier with his Vanguard. Is tanky and can soak up damage

Phinn is Unstoppable. He can stun and pull enemy heroes jumping onto you. Is also very tanky and can soak up damage. He is slow though

Has massive heals and a strong attack buff. His Verse of Judgement can stun enemy heroes chasing you. He is very slow though and is ranged.

Massive heal and movement speed bonus from Imperial Sigil. Her Bright Bulwark and her [principle arcanum] can protect you from fast characters. Her portals(dumb ones) and the fact that she is ranged and not tanky puts her lower on the list

Pushes, stuns and roots. Can soak up damage and protect you from threats

Very good at annoying the enemy team early game, allowing you to get the early edge. His overpowered slow can buy you time and let you have free damage.

Really tanky, has a stun for dangerous heroes and a silence that helps CP Ringo land his Hellfire Brew without dying or getting it reflex blocked

Has a global Flare. and the wolves can distract the enemy team while Ringo gets free damage in. His Law of the Claw has a percentage health chip that is activated with basic attacks(which Ringo can quickly proc)

Jungler Synergy

2 lives at her disposal, her reboot is a huge distraction allowing you to get free damage in on the enemies.

Psuedo tank able to take out dangerous targets and tank damage

Glaive's Afterburn is able to get you out of many sticky situations, only if his pilot is good though

Super tanky(when facing the right way ahem Joule players there is a right way to face). Kamehameha able to disperse the enemy team to give you room to breathe if needed. Also has a long stun

With one of the longest stuns in the game, Koshka is able to stun their carry and allow you to finish him off while the enemy team focuses Koshka down

Nigh unkillable, Krul also draws a ton of attention away from you. Has a very fast stun and weakens enemies in case they jump on you.

Super tanky with a stun, but a very slow stun

Ranged hero. You want a tank in front of you, not another Glass Cannon

Slows, stuns and roots can keep enemies in place for you to dish out damage. Is also able to soak up huge amounts of damage. Kind of slow though

Very tanky, but slow. There are better options

Sissy. Though he does draw a lot of attention away from you, when he's stealthed you will be targeted which isn't very good

Very tanky, but very slow. Grumpjaw can eliminate the biggest threat and you can safely attack the rest of the enemy team before finishing the eaten enemy off.

Afterword Top

I think SEMC has made a great hero for beginners to play. Ringo can teach so many things. Just to name a few:
Carrying
Kiting
Sutter stepping
Farming
And it's a good thing they made him a starting character.
